Toybox You wake, cold and alone, in a room lit only by a single, faint candle... that gleams off of the links of the chain connecting your leg to the wall. Uh-oh. From there, believe it or not, things only get worse. You are trapped in a house of horrors, and must solve puzzles and face supernatural terror in order to regain your freedom. Of course, there's also the matter of your murderous captor... where could he be? You might just find out.

Habla Kadabla Habla Kadabla is a short, sweet, Halloweeny point-and-click game by Carmel Games with a crime-solving twist. Habla is a nice, friendly, upbeat sort of witch, just runnin' her little gift shop and tryin' to make ends meet. Which is why she's really upset when someone steals her enchanted cash register, along with all her money. Lucky for her, there's all sorts of stuff lying around waiting for her to pick it up and put to good use as she tries to crack the case and catch the thief.

Crazy Go Nuts 2 Use a cannon to launch squirrels like bushy-tailed missiles into clusters of airborne acorns, hoping to accrue enough points to beat the level's target score and move on to the next. The more acorns you hit with one rodent, the more points you rack up. There's multi-shot acorns, fiery acorns, and an inexplicably fun "There's only a few acorns left" mode where your cannon becomes a gatling gun of furry fury. Suffice it to say, the squirrels have their work cut out for them.

Parallel Levels How many levels can you handle playing at once? Because in this challenging puzzle platformer, you'll have to play at least two and juggle increasing numbers of synchronized characters to boot.

Immense Army Grow your army, one click at a time, in this incremental idle game from Deqaf Studio. Though perhaps a little too simple for some, a great visual style and casual pick-up-and-dominate gameplay may make it a good choice to fill your spare time.

Vanish Rain Vanish Rain is a zombie shooter with defense elements. You're helping devoted sister Anna survive for 15 days in zombie-infested Riverhead City as she waits for her brother's return. Wholesale slaughter of zombies will earn you money, which you can spend on new guns, upgrades and repairs during the intermission between each day.

Alone on Raven Road You, a broken down car, a lonely road, and miles of wilderness in either direction. What's the worst that can happen? A short, speedy, and spooky-lite point-and-click adventure from Self-Defiant!

A Super Mario Summary Explore the Tiny Worlds of the Mushroom Kingdom in Johan Peitz's Ludum Dare entry, A Super Mario Summary. A distillation of the original 32 levels of Super Mario Brothers in single screen puzzle-platform format, A Super Mario Summary is a loving tribute, but more than that, a great game.

Little Phobia A nighttime trip to the bathroom turns freaky in this fast-paced platformer by Deqaf Studios, where you must run and jump and climb past ghoulish dangers as a little boy.

Juggerdome Injected with adrenaline, heavy metal, and buckets of (tiny, pixelated) gore, Juggerdome is a gritty top down arena shooter from Con Artist, creator of Crush the Castle. You are the lucky prisoner chosen to pilot the Juggernaut, a killing machine outfitted with upgradeable weaponry. During each round in the arena you must not only survive onslaughts of machines and armed prisoners, you have to entertain the crowd, too.

Gunfox Vs. MonsterBoss Slide, shoot, and upgrade to defeat the minions of MonsterBoss and race to the top to stop his rampage. There is nothing that can stand in your way with a gun in your furry red paws. So jump, shoot, and slide to climb your way to the top to have your face-off.

The High Road Craving your long forgotten days with your nose in your arithmetic book? Cosmo A lovely escape game that does nearly everything right; the graphics are good, the puzzles varied and inventive, the interface clean and user-friendly. Completing Cosmo does take just a smidgen of comprehension of mathematics and astronomy, but it is easily one of the better room escapes to come along recently.

Big Pixel Zombies Zombies to the left me, er, zombies to the right. Here I am, stuck in the middle with two AK-47s, three primed hand grenades and one dog with a mini gun on his back. Get ready to take survival to a whole new level in this top-down shooter! With steak!

The Power of Love The knight and the princess are in love, but the princess' father isn't having any of it, so naturally the only solution is to beat the castle to the ground and use the treasure they throw at you to upgrade your equipment in this simple, silly, and unfortunately SLOW action game.

The Children of Brinn In this short text adventure from Hyptosis, lead a party of mercenaries from the esteemed guild, the Children of Brinn, on a job to solve the supernatural problems plaguing a tiny town. The choices you make determine who lives and dies and gets a face full of acid, and provides a brief but solid little diversion brimming with potential for future installments.

PlanEvo Darwin must have been a heavy sleeper on Galapagos Island when he discovered evolution. How else could he have missed the alien abductions? Confused? Well don't be. Clearly evolution was caused by an Alien race wanting to help humanity along but having to be quiet about it, so they just cleverly altered the animals around them to help the people grow in the right direction... or at least, that's the case according to this simulation strategy game.

Leave Me a Clone Daniel Haslop's puzzle platformer, Leave Me a Clone, will give you quite a challenge through all 35 levels. Play as the cute little yellow alien who just wants to get through the next portal. Create clones of yourself to act as stepping stones (and any other use you can find for them) toward your final goal. And if you happen to earn stars along the way by collecting all the energy orbs or limiting your clone use, all the better!

Survive 'n' Risk Survive 'n' Risk has you controlling a stickman with your mouse and keyboard as you leap across platforms, avoiding enemies and spikes to earn cash. Find the Escape-Men Part 126: The Special Property The apartment in this escape game's rent is suspiciously low, and there's a weird smell here too... so it's probably not a good sign your realtor has locked you inside! Worm Food Control a gigantic subterranean beast with an insatiable appetite whose only power is its ability to leap powerfully from the earth in order to devour several villages and even armies worth of unsuspecting tribesmen. Whether you were a fan of the original Death Worm or are happening upon controlling a monstrous oligochaeta for the first time - rest assured that what you're about to play is pure Nitrome in its classic form.

Train In a world of repression, you managed to stand out and survive the changes. It is not a safe place, but now you stand a chance to survive. Can you activate the machine in time and escape to another dimension? Train is an entry into our 10th Casual Gameplay Design Competition, with the theme of "Escape".

Planet Cruncher Planet Cruncher lets you satisfy your appetite for destruction by casting you as an omnipotent exterminator of worlds. It doesn't exactly feel like a game about the deaths of billions, encased as it is in a shell of relaxing arcadey puzzle gameplay. But sometimes you have to play a game in your own way, and I choose to play this one while cackling maniacally and stroking an imaginary long-haired white star-cat named Lord Galaxathon.

Three Nights Escape You don't know why, but you've got to escape... and you've got to do it over the course of three nights. Three Nights Escape isn't as bizarre as, say, Detarou's work, but it's not exactly normal, either, if the horse in the bathtub is any indication. It has all the typical disadvantages of a Rutenberg game (mild pixel hunts, puzzles that literally can't be solved without trial and error), but the atmosphere redeems it very well, and the puzzles DO make sense if you look at them just right. Overall, it's definitely worth taking a night or three off to play.

Halloween Shooter After a long night of haunting and spooking, there's nothing that your average vampire/mummy/witch likes more than going home to the comfort of their own coffin/sarcophagus/cauldron. In Halloween Shooter, a physics puzzler by GameShot, it's your job to blast them all home for a good day's sleep. Very polished in presentation, with some excellently designed set pieces, Halloween Shooter has a cool retro aesthetic and bouncy sound effects.

Crazy Mom Make no mistake, fifteen years is a lot of time to be married, and Crazy Mom wants the party to pop! But to make this shindig memorable, she needs your help to gather a few things in this short and silly point-and-click adventure from Carmel Games.

Epic Stand The number of defense games out there is as massive as the hordes of enemies you fight in them, but Bright Sight Team's side view strategy game stands out in the horde's ranks. Epic Stand pins you down at your castle and magic is your only weapon. To defend your castle walls, click on the screen to where you want the spell to be cast and let it work its magic. The level is over when there are no enemies left standing and none of them reach your wizard's final floor.

Layer Maze 4 Pipkin Games is trying to tie your brain in knots with something that should be simple. Roll a ball in a maze to an exit. Easy, right? Well, except for the fact that there are coloured keys, doors, locks, paint blotches, and more all strewn across different overlapping layers you'll have to hop in and out of holes to travel through.

My First Recital no1game's little girl is back, and this time her mother thinks she's ready to get set for her very first hula recital all by herself... with a little help from you, of course, as you hunt down all the items she needs in this cute, kid-friendly escape game.

Momentum (Tom Scheper) Platform games commonly require a fair amount of jumping to move around, but the author of this unique platformer decided that jumping is the new walking. As the title implies, Momentum is your best friend and you can bound from platform to platform while dodging spikes and collecting colored candy orbs using that speed.

ErlinE: The Magic Orbs Like lovely visuals? What about pits of death and whirling sawblades flying at your face? This platformer has both! Help ErlinE track down the magical orbs and return them to the portals, but watch out for hazards... and the unforgiving challenge!

Fractured 3 In this follow up to the popular and perplexing puzzle platformers, guide two little children through a mind-bending, topsy-turvy landscape, where the biggest challenge isn't just figuring out where you are, it's figuring out which end is up!

CosmiCube Cosmicube is one of those 'older games with a new twist' releases that you see every once in a while. The game uses the Unity engine to render a 3-D take on Marble Madness. The marble's track is made of red cubes mounted on a larger black cube. Your goal is to get a marble from its starting point onto the goal by moving your mouse to tilt the playing field. You're aided (and hampered) by an impressive physics simulation that feels very authentic and real, all while listening to a fast-paced soundtrack that fits the action and setting well.

Successful Experiment Oh sure, you could say that Successful Experiment by Toffee Games is just another physics-based puzzler where you fiddle around with balls and targets, but just check out that sweet laboratory set you've got as a background, and the Einstein-look on the logo character. You're fiddling around with balls and targets for science.

Heavy Room In order to escape, you'll need to find your way through four rooms, observing signs and clues, solving puzzles and deciphering codes. Despite the title, though, this is not a heavy undertaking. Simple, quick and perfectly logical, Heavy Room by Triple Rock is just the right balance of ease and fun for a mini game escape anytime you need one.

Blobink Blobink is a unique and original new game in which you have the power to restore colour and rescue the girlfriend you never knew you had and who doesn't appear in the game(!) Simply race around these levels, touching each item as you go, and the world will once again be saturated in beautiful R, G & B. Don't fall into the water! You're an ink blob!

New School Blues Let's face it. We've all been there, and being the new kid sucks. Help the new kid navigate through the school day in this short and sweet point-and-click adventure game. With a little help from you, the new kid will have no problem facing down school yard bullies and embarrassing jackets.

Stunt Crazy You can keep your CGI mippy-maps and digitally inserted explosions. In my mind, what the best movie stunts need is non-negotiable: An actual dude, in an actual car, making actual jumps (possibly with an actual dude hanging from the rear axle with an actual whip). I suppose then it's a little contradictory that I turn to computer gaming to recreate this real-life experience, but Stunt Crazy, the new physics driving game by The Podge definitely has the right spirit... and a ton of stuff that goes boom. Can't forget that.

Zombus Zombies are everywhere. And all you've got is a heavily armored bus that can be upgraded with shields, zombie-crunching bumpers, guns, and other equipment! Guess you'll have to do some reckless driving in order to rescue the survivors. Zombus is a top-down driving game from Game Launch Project, creator of Bunny Flags. The game features loads of blood, plenty of angry zombies, and a healthy dose of more blood. But, for a browser-based driving game, you'll be surprised how spot-on the controls (and overall sense of dread) are!

On the Deck On the Deck is a physics puzzle that has you manipulating different ships and rafts on choppy seas, trying to keep your passengers and cargo from tipping overboard. Its tough challenge and varied, ample levels will keep you occupied for a good while longer than most casual Flash games.

Minerics Getting your hands dirty is always more fun when you've got a friend along! This brightly-colored band of miners needs your help to collect the jewels that match their colors and explore the depths of their mines. Play this puzzle-platformer solo as an exercise in coordination, or bring along a friend to help you for co-op puzzle-solving fun!

Totems Awakening Physics puzzle Totems Awakening serves up ball passing and wacky Rube Goldberg-like contraptions with a refreshing tropical twist. With 30 levels that are easy to comprehend but difficult to master, the game will attract both veterans and dilettantes of the genre.

Baseball Luke Whittaker's Baseball is easily one of the best online baseball games I've ever played. The gameplay mechanics do a perfect job of capturing what it feels like to be several runs behind in the final innings of a ball game, and have only three outs to fashion a miraculous come-from-behind victory.

Zoo Transport How many crates could a penguin stack if a penguin could stack crates? You're about to find out. There isn't a human in sight, so it's up to you and our fine flippered friend to transport crates of live, bouncy, feisty animals to the nearest zoo with only your stacking skills, a battered red pickup, and a physics engine on your side.

The Island of Earthly Delights When a storm lands an airship sailor on a strange island and his friend isn't there when he regains consciousness, finding a way home is going to be even more difficult than you might already think since the residents of this place are more than a little... weird. A short but beautifully surreal point-and-click adventure with a case of odd logic but tons of personality.

7 Days Without Rain Can you change the world, one act of benevolent thievery at a time? Find out in this short point-and-click puzzle game from ReFall, as you play a thief who uses their talents to help other people.

Kick the Critter It's been raining for forty days and forty nights, and M. Critter's home is seriously losing ground (as it were). But that jerk Noah won't let him on the ark! Thank goodness Critter's got an assortment of fantastical kicking machines he can use to launch himself toward the boat. Bounce off bats, get spiked on thorns, and shoot yourself out of a giant robot's arm cannon to reach the boat and give that Noah a piece of your mind!

The New Switcheroo It may feel like someone's pulling the old switcheroo on you, but don't be fooled. It's The New Switcheroo, a puzzle game based on the Lights Out template, where the object is to turn all the bulbs in a formation to the same color. Over the course of 30 tricky and creative levels, The New Switcheroo adds a handful of twists, both figurative and literal, to that formula. It's more than enough to keep you pondering for an hour or two.

Undead City Need a little zombie in your day? Don't we all! Play a ghoulish twist on the defense genre by placing and upgrading heroes out of harm's way to defeat the horde, or put them directly in the line of fire to make a heroic sacrifice. Just remember, be strategic! Just because it's a zombie apocalypse doesn't mean it can't be neat and orderly, darn it.

Scrape Scraperteeth Scrape Scraperteeth actually has you start out the game by reading and acknowledging a satirical "warning", pointing out its flaws before the critics can do so: it's easy (you can't die or fail), it's ugly (well... just look at the screencap), it's strange, it's even wanky. Platforming enjoyment is not what you're signing up for when you play this game. Slow down and take the time to watch all that happens as you move around the levels, to read the text, and to figure out the subtext.

Battle of Heroes Manage the battle front as you play either as the humans, who are trying to save their princess, or as the demons, who are racing back home with their prize. Gather gold to buy your army and send them down the screen to crush the enemy's camp while enjoying a zany two-sided story.

Helinon DonixGames brings you a mesmerizing experience in their free Flash game, Helinon. In this bullet hell shooter, you control a green glowing wheel as it takes down the other geometric shapes coming after it, for whatever reason. With auto-fire, your only job is to avoid, set off the occasional special weapon, and access the upgrade shop to resupply and go. It's an entertaining experience that will pair perfectly with your morning coffee.

The Hunter The night is dark and full of terrors. You are one of them. You cannot see, but you can hear, and though they may hear you coming, they will not be able to stop you. Because he deserves it. Jord Farrell presents The Hunter, an intense, challenging, and intensely challenging, unique top-down stealth-based horror adventure, originally developed as part of the "you only get one" Ludum Dare 28 competition, now expanded and refined for a final release.

Vast Go to a forest, meet people, find items they want, give them the items, make them happy. Sounds easy? Not really, because you have no idea what the people are saying. They all speak in symbols, and it's up to you to figure out what they are talking about and how to help them. Vast is a simple, minimalistic game, but it's heartwarming and strangely rewarding.

Bloons Monkey City In Bloons Monkey City you go behind the scenes to train, upgrade, and build a city for your monkey army to inhabit all while working toward one goal: Retake your land from the evil Bloons. Use your tower defense skills to fight back the enemy all while managing your town in order to grow your forces.

BigTree TopGun BigTree TopGun is a top-down shooter that employs the familiar "rotating turret" mechanic; enemy bugs enter the playing field from all angles, while each level the amount of enemy waves increases. The onslaught consists of a diverse array of evil little buggers that fly in erratic, difficult-to-hit patterns and possess innate abilities that make them immune to certain types of attack.

Tumble Towers 2 Tumble Towers 2 is a fun and engaging physics puzzle by Team Omni, in which you must keep totems from tumbling and dropping from wobbly towers of blocks. It doesn't really try to hide the elements it swipes from the Totem Destroyer games, but, even if a clone, it's made with a lot of love for the concept.

So grab your bowl or plate of cocktail shrimps, mochi, lentils, hoppin' john, grapes or what have you, curl up with your laptop or desktop, and give this a try today or tomorrow. From all of us at JIG, a Happy New Year to you!

Paint Wars Paint Wars challenges you to fill in the outlines of different shapes using as little paint as possible, while an army of vehicles tries to destroy your masterpiece. It's an unusual game that incorporates a familiar draw mechanic in an interesting new way. But it's not as easy as it sounds.

Oh Snow! A platform game that presents a world where the Yeti spends his days outrunning an angry anthropomorphic snowball. One of the few platform games where action and puzzle elements are split right down the middle, Oh Snow can be occasionally frustrating, but always fun.

Square Hero Dateline: Quadrilopolis. To the world at large, mild-mannered office worker Cube Kent seems to do nothing more than work at the office of Office Work Incorporated. Square Hero! NDGames' Champion of justice, and puzzle platforming protagonist extraordinaire! He's here in his poly-bagged, holographic, foil-embossed, varient-covered, action-packed first issue, and while it's not quite Eisner Award-worthy for innovation, it's definitely a fun romp, true believers.

The Bear of Love Be afraid. Be very afraid of his scary love. But there's a catch: you tend to come on too strong and end up killing those you hug when you don't pull away in time. Bear of Love features some great 8-bit pixel art and the funny upgrades and animations will have you chortling to yourself long after the five or ten minutes it takes to finish this game, making it a perfect antidote for the Monday morning blues.

Gravitex 2 Space. The final frontier. Work your way through 100 levels and then take advantage of the level creation system to build your own stage to share with your friends! Nothing says "I love you, man" like a fiendishly elaborate physics puzzle that will waste hours of their life.
