Reisen series The Reisen series catalogues the tale of a small red-headed girl named Jitter, who recently lost her parents to the war (World War II, I think) and wants to go see her grandmother. This is easier said than done, as she is confined to a bunker far away from where her grandma lives. If she wants to make the journey, she'll have to be cunning and resourceful, doing everything from trekking through dark forests to pole-vaulting over deep water to getting guards drunk. This is a series with good points and bad points, like many others. The visuals are relatively unimpressive, the puzzles are okay in the logic department, and pixel-hunting can get annoying, although it gets much more tolerable later in the series. What really makes it worth playing, though, is the story.

It's four interconnected rooms, all of which look alike at first glance: a little teakettle on a round table, a green box on a square pedestal, a mysterious picture on the wall next to a button that doesn't do anything. Obviously, you've got to solve puzzles that span all four rooms if you're to get out, with or without the usual Happy Coin.

Lume Lume is a new puzzle adventure game from State of Play, creators of a few browser games you might know, such as A Short History of the World and A Break in the Road. The visual style is by far the game's most standout feature, as everything you see was created out of paper and cardboard before getting filmed in high definition. The awesomeness doesn't end with the graphics, though. Lume features some solidly challenging point-and-click puzzles that will cause even seasoned room escape veterans to stop and think on more than one occasion.

T2B Escape T2B Escape is a good-looking, clever and impressively well-designed escape-the-room game, easily a cut or two above most others of its kind even if the premise isn't anything spectacularly new or creative. T2B has two or three puzzles that genuinely made me chuckle with delight upon solving them, which to me is a significant part of the pleasure in playing such games.

Vortex Point 2: Nensha Something weird is happening with photos in Vortex Point, and the masked man who shows up in them is the least of the town's concerns when the people in them start going missing. Winterish Room Winterish room takes place in a large, comfortable room that echoes the season of the title. It's not an exceedingly long or difficult room escape, but there's enough puzzle solving involved to keep you busy for a few minutes at least, and the lovely backgrounds and entertaining puzzles are sure to be a hit with room escape fans.

Emergency Exit Sign and <br />Game in Game in Game This time around I scavenged up a pair of small but entertaining room escape packages from a Japanese developer called No1Game. The first, Emergency Exit Sign, tells the story of a Japanese all-night worker who just about lives at his office, which becomes a problem when a monster traps him inside. The second, Game In Game In Game, shows us a rather obsessed escape fanatic who plays a room escape game every day before bed, only to wake up one morning trapped in one.

Imagia 3: The Quarry Kayzerfish's latest epsiode in the point-and-click trilogy appears unrelated to the first two chapters apart from the glorious graphics and secrets to be found. The beauty of Imagia is immediately obvious with gorgeously crisp imagery that is somehow congruent with the natural world. Imagia 3: The Quarry may just be another tidbit to tantalise a gamer's tastebuds, but I seriously get the feeling that there will be more delightful and sweetly intriguing Imagia to come...

Echoes of Sorrow You're not sure who you are. You don't know where you are. And a mysterious dark shadow is following you around, clouding your memory. It's shaping up to be quite a bad day as Echoes of Sorrow, a new casual adventure game from BlitPop, begins. This title drops a few hidden object scenes to flavor an otherwise straight-up free roaming adventure game that emphasizes exploration and inventory puzzles. Not only do you have to gather items from various parts of the game, but you're usually not sure what to do until the very last moment. It's a smartly paced game that hits all the sweet spots for casual adventure fans.

Orient Express Night Orient Express Night has fun object finding, some challenging puzzles, and the use of combined objects that you expect from a decent room escape. Add in the atmosphere and the visuals and you have one fun ride, destination Istanbul (or a place more enigmatic).

Sherlock Holmes: The Tea Shop Murder Mystery The owner of the local Tea Shop has been murdered, and it is up to the world's greatest detective to crack the point-and-click adventure case in Sherlock Holmes: The Tea Shop Murder Mystery. Its a work that's designed to appeal more to fans of Carmel Games' other works rather than the Conan Doyle, as it were. But with that in mind, there's quite a bit of fun to be had: the acting is campy, the puzzles are goofy, the humor is silly.

Morbid Pastel Games has just released a new point-and-click game, Morbid, designed and illustrated by Maciej Palka with programming, animation and puzzle support from Mateusz Skutnik. Hard-to-find hotspots turn this game into a disappointing exercise in frustration. But give it a play and decide for yourself.

Strawberry Cafe Escape Sometimes it's nice to kick back, relax, and enjoy the scenery and the truly casual gameplay of a room escape. The puzzles themselves are tricky without being difficult, adding to the relaxation factor. While there is only one way out, there are three different endings based on your methodology. Having trouble getting over the mid-week hump? Then sit down, relax, pour a drink, and spend a little time escaping the Strawberry Cafe.

Tammy Jo Superstar Tammy Jo knows she could do a better job than the hotel's in-house singer, Neel, who's been driving customers away for years, and her boss is finally giving her a chance to prove it in this quirky point-and-click adventure from Carmel Games.

King William's Chocolate Challenge Kanoti's short point-and-click puzzle might be aimed primarily at young kids, but that doesn't mean anyone can't enjoy it! Play as an assistant to the official Hot Chocolate Dude (yes, that's now his official name) attempting to deliver the royal frothing spoon before the King gets his daily cup. Short but definitely sweet, this is one game that's exceptionally easy but also packs in a lot of charm and silliness.

Family Room Escape A simple and charming room escaper from Japan that is just right for an afternoon tea. Filled with objects to find and puzzles to solve, and just a few smallish pixel areas to give you pause. It's simple, short and sweet, like a new year's baby offering promise of a better life ahead. So Happy Birthday 2008!

Despite the flaws, there is a lot of entertaining room escaping to be had.

Myosotis Chapter 4 PI Rick has been chasing a woman for years now in Mike Morin's popular point-and-click adventure mystery series, but in this latest brief installment it seems like he's been given another chance. Room Escape Maker (Beta) Currently available in beta, Room Escape Maker is exactly what it says on the tin... a free online tool that allows you to make and share escape games, or play those created by others. Besides, it's a free way to help hone your ability to ensnare helpless people in locked rooms filled with diabolical mechanisms.

Confined For those who enjoyed the previously reviewed Ambivalence, there's a brand new game, Confined, just released today from the same Japanese developer, FonGeBooN. This appears to be a fairly standard point-and-click room escape game until you dig a little deeper. From what I can tell so far, pixel hunting is minimal (though present), instead the focus is on puzzle solving, which is always a plus when it comes to games like this.
