theboywithtape.gifJohnBOk, so what have we got here? A couch. A window. Some scissors suspended from the ceiling. A present with a lid that's firmly taped down. And The Boy with Tape on His Face in the middle of it all. From BBC Three comes a short, comedy-driven point-and-click game starring Sam Wills as his quiet little character with a slab of tape over his mouth. His goal is quite simple, and if you're going to help him get inside that box, you'll need to solve some pretty strange puzzles.

All you'll need for this full motion video adventure is your mouse, and all you'll need to do with it is figure out what needs to be clicked on and click on it! The boy takes care of the rest. As you complete actions and view short video scenes, the present meter on the right slowly fills up, showing your progress to full opening of the deliciously-wrapped box. If, in your clicking explorations, you trigger the same video more than once, a handy "skip" button appears at the bottom of the screen, allowing you to move right past videos you've already seen.

The Boy with Tape on His Face is more of an entertainment piece than a traditional game, even by casual standards. The puzzles are less challenging and more, well, inevitable. Keep clicking on things and you'll get to the end. Keep getting it wrong and the game will show you what's next. It's not about the work that goes into solving the puzzles, however, it's about the antics of the boy with tape on his face. If you've ever seen Sam's show you'll know what kind of humor to expect, so hop in and enjoy the brief but comical game starring the boy with tape on his face!

The Boy with Tape on His Face Walkthrough

Oh, boy! A present!

Can't open it.

Can't reach the scissors. Bummer.

Maybe there's something useful in the shoulder bag?

Scarves are chic this time of year, no?

Sunglasses. Yeah, baby.

We're wiggin' out!

And that's one well-dressed mannequin.

A tape dispenser. Variation on a theme?

Hey, is that a red button?

It's a red button that says DO NOT PUSH! You better believe we're pushin' it!

Ring, ring. Better answer that.

There's a guy dangling from the ceiling. His feet are probably getting hot. Let's get his shoes for him.

Wig out, part deux!

And now the scarf. Lovely.

We're cuckoo for ... Okay, the joke doesn't work too well here. Just click the clock.

What's behind the curtains?

Let's listen to the tape dispenser again.

The phone people still love us! Their love keeps on lifting us higher!

Ah, we meet again, Mr. Cuckoo Clock.

(Try to keep it together, now.)

PRESENT TIME!

That was a fun little distraction. Them Brits have an odd sence of humor.

Maybe it's just me but I found this 'game' tedious to the extreme!

Cheeky bleeder! Odd sense of humour indeed, its something they put in our tea don't you know

Listening to tedious music while waiting several seconds to watch each tedious animation that accompanies every single click makes it painful to click around and experiment with stuff. I got out with

one click of the red "x" shaped button in the upper right hand corner of the window

My first time without a walkthru!

is there a point to this game? looks like you just click things that you can't use so you end up not escaping or getting out or anything. what in the wild wild world of sports is going on here?

What he pulls out of his jacket at the end makes it all worth it.

Best ending for a free game I've seen in a long time.

Agreed, Trevor.

Great acting with a very funny concept. I love how the tape over his mouth both puts the focus on the silly sound effects as well as parodying the "silent hero" gaming trope. Yes, the animation is painfully low-budget, but that's perfectly fine. Yes, the game is linear and short, but considering the amount of work obviously put into it I'm just thrilled it exists. And the ending

not only made me laugh when he pulls the object out of his pocket, but in addition, the contents of the present and the actor's little dance with himself was really a great little reward for the gamer.

Also, personally, I loved the little cutscenes. But I can understand that this doesn't appeal to all gamers.

True, this isn't going to be to everybody's taste but I loved it. It's not about the puzzle, it's really an interactive comedy skit. Kudos!

does this even have a walkthrough? or is it just clicking items until you get bored then quit? there seems to be no collecting of items that i see.

Reply

It took me a bit to figure it out, but the first thing you need to do is

click on his satchel to get a few more items

Having managed to clear the game, I have the overwhelming urge to slap Mr. Tape-On-Mouth with a fish.

Just as soon as I quit laughing. (This may be a while...)

I love British humour, but this one left me stone cold.

Reply

DPW,

what satchel? there's no where to go but just that area. you can't go left or right or anything. If you can solve it, please write a walkthrough. i've attempted to play it 3 times and i think it's a random "click on anything until you get bored and click X to end the game" type game.

Reply

@Paul:

The satchel is hanging around his neck/shoulder on the right (your right, his left) just below the waist. Click on it and he'll reveal what's inside.

I would love to see someone create a walkthrough for this.

Please?

You know, you can skip the cutscenes. There's a small white arrow at the bottom right corner. :D

This was adorable. I giggled through the whole thing...just something about the expression in his eyes. Too cute! I groaned/chuckled right out loud when

he pulled the scissors out of his pocket and cut the other ones down with them.

Also, HUGE kudos to An Onyx Mouse for the Python reference. Teehee :)
