Minecraft Alpha Sometimes, a game goes through such a metamorphosis during its development cycle that it's practically a different product from its original release. Thus is the case with Minecraft, a little old building game, inspired by Infiniminer and Dwarf Fortress, and created by Markus Persson. Whether you can only play it for fifteen minutes at a time, or end up devoting hours at a stretch (often unintentionally) to it, Minecraft is intensely enjoyable, and an incredible bargain. Minecraft Beta will be out on December 20th, so this is your last opportunity to get the game at Alpha pricing and with the promise of all future updates for free.

From the original browser game released in 2001 to the 2009 re-envisioning in Bejeweled Twist, practically every person who's ever touched a computer knows about the series. PopCap invests a lot of effort into the scarce Bejeweled sequels, and as soon as you see what Bejeweled 3 has to offer, you'll appreciate the extra attention that was put in to getting you hooked on gem swapping all over again.

Carrot Track Ferry Halim, in Orisinal's most recently released flash game, has recreated the pure enjoyment of an afternoon in the park, where puppies and bunnies frolic, in Carrot Track, a vertical scrolling, avoidance game delight.

Fiends Fiends is best described as an innovative puzzle game masquerading as a roguelike RPG, and worst described as an unentertaining game, though you'll find that "unentertaining" doesn't enter into the equation. As the growing circle of friends makes their way from outer space to a castle to an abandoned marketplace, they'll encounter new fiends with different counterattack ranges, set up in all sorts of arrangements to create all sorts of puzzles, leaving you thinking constantly.

endeavor Classic metroidvania makes a comeback in this expansive, multi-ending platformer/adventure game from Zillix. When your father finally dies, leaving you with the knowledge of an ancient family treasure, you set out in search of it unaffected by the taunts and hatred of your fellow dwarves. As I Lay Dying Teale Fristoe believes that love is expressed through devotion and makes this point quite succinctly in his latest platform adventure game. As I Lay Dying has one of the genre's more bizarre premises, but what really makes it stand out is how well the premise is integrated with the gameplay. Thankfully, the remarkably morbid subject matter is handled with as much dark comedy as Fristoe could muster. All in all, this is a solid platformer with an unusual enough premise that it's worth a look.

Imagia 2: The Dome Imagia 2 picks up right where Imagia 1 left us, pointing and clicking our way around a mysterious rooftop, gathering clues about just what we're trying to accomplish in the first place. If you were hoping for answers in this sequel from Kayzerfish, I'm afraid we're still in questions without answers mode. You know, like the first season of Lost, only no smoke monster. The observant player, however, should gather enough to seriously pique curiosity and we can only hope subsequent chapters will follow close behind.

Mystic Asylum Spooky rather than scary, Mystic Asylum is an escape game of chills rather than frights. No jump scares here, just a lot of spooky atmosphere enlivened by the standard conventions of a room escape. Stunning to look at and fun to play, Mystic Asylum is also a nice, creepy escape slap dab in the middle of the holiday season, something to cut the treacle and a relief from all of the frantic shopping.

Truck Loader With graffiti on the walls, funky-fresh music and a grunchy-chic environment, you'd think that Truck Loader was trying a little too hard to be cool. Super Treadmill Super Treadmill is yet another prime example of interesting Nitrome fare. It takes a not-so-simple run-and-jump game and gives it an added twist: it's an allegedly old game emulated on modern technology, bad connection and all. If you're willing to see the game through to the end, then go ahead and hop on the Super Treadmill!

Bomboozle 2 Vanilla, jeans, thunderbolts - there have been many variations and 'improvements', but nothing that beats the original. That also goes for many puzzle games and while people are less inclined to meet an old favourite during an adventure game, on their own they hit the sweet spot. That, more or less, summarises my opinion of Bomboozle 2. It might not break new ground or usher in the new era of 'pop the colors' puzzle games, but this take on a classic isn't broken either!

Mystery Case Files: 13th Skull When a man goes missing deep in Louisiana on his newly acquired sprawling estate, his family turns to you to help find him. You don't have much to go on, and time may be running out... but his daughter may hold a clue. Modern Mystery Modern Mystery is the escape title of the week this time around. The game, naturally, begins with you trapped in a rather comfy lounge-like room. It's nicely furnished—a bit of abstract art on the walls, a potted plant, two leather chairs, a laptop computer—but you still want out by any means. Go around collecting objects, putting clues together, and solving puzzles in order to collect more objects, hopefully at some point getting one or both of those doors open and terminating your confinement.

Anbot Spare a thought for Anbot, the protagonist in this point-and-click adventure game. Reliable and trustworthy Anbot has fronted up for work as usual and found himself injured because of someone else's negligence. Liquid Measure 2 Liquid Measure 2 mixes Pipe Mania, water collection puzzles and simple idea physics into a nice glass of flash gaming fun. The difficulty is perhaps overly easy, but the mechanics are clever and the professional presentation should quench your thirst for a half hour.

Aah Little Atlantis This is your mission in Aah Little Atlantis, a pixelated turn-based strategy game; try to save as much of the Atlantean populace as you can, using nothing but floods, meteors, and the populace's own panicked fleeing. Your tools are floods and meteors, and you will deploy one of each on a single map tile, once every turn. Your charges are little Atlantean sprites, who will flee in terror from the ravaging deluge you let loose upon them, though they are oddly sanguine about meteors and will happily run toward them.

Demons Took My Daughter When there is no more room in hell, demons will walk the earth, stealing soft plushy toys so you can't use them to find your daughter, unless you use a combination of platforming and defense to stop them... that's, uh... how that goes, right? Nerdook delivers another clever genre hybrid, this time putting you into the shoes of one weird dad trying to save his daughter from even weirder enemies.

IntoSpace! A Gray-Haired Science Guy has been ordered by his government to launch a rocket straight to the moon in Barbarian Games' new take on the launch action genre. Using Keyboard or Mouse controls, steer your craft ever higher, picking up bonuses and adding upgrades until you reach the ultimate goal of 300k feet. The countdown awaits!

Robot Unicorn Attack Heavy Metal Adult Swim revisits their incredibly popular arcade game of robotic unicorns and falling stars in this heavy metal re-imagining. While it doesn't reinvent the gameplay, it does provide an alternative for those of you who were always secretly ashamed by how their heart skipped a beat whenever they heard Erasure, and offers up all the addictive play of the original. But how the heck are you supposed to play this and headbang at the same time?! My hair keeps getting in the way!

Weekend Download №159 Time for stuff! With the notable exception of Great Migrations, the games in this edition of Weekend Download seem to be dominated by white on black landscapes. Old school throwback or conscious atmospheric design choice? To that question I answer: yes!

The Nokkians 2 The Nokkians 2 is a new vertical shooter by Awoker Games. Using the term "vertical" is a bit of a lie, as one of the key features of this casual shmup is its game-altering screen effects which twist, turn, rotate and scale the entire game world as you play, making dodging bullets only half of the challenge. Add in a load of achievements, a great soundtrack, and gameplay that won't frighten the casual gamer, and you've got a great shooter that can actually draw you back for multiple playthroughs.

Deadly Neighbours Everyone's had problems with their neighbors at some point. From the party guys who blare music at 3 a.m. on a Monday morning to the lawn dictators who go berserk if your grass gets too long, bad neighbors are a fact of life. In Nerdook's latest strategy game, Deadly Neighbours, you get to deal with your neighbors in the most direct way possible: by beaning them in the head with a PS2 controller!

Knox Sean Cooper's new online simulation of the classic game of marbles. Aim and shoot a white marble, attempting to knock red marbles out of the circle. The lack of AI opponents or online multiplayer is a flaw, but overall it's a fine iteration of a very niche genre.

Mix Sudoku Light Sudoku fans should rejoice with this new release from Conceptis. It contains a number of classic puzzles, along with several variations including Diagonal, Irregular, Chain, Odd/Even, and Multi. The sixty puzzles are over far too soon, but with such a well-done interface, the next volume is eagerly awaited.

Nuclearoids Nuclearoids is a chain reaction arcade game that will remind you a little of Boomshine. A collaboration between GameBalance (Warp Forest, Orbox) and Alexander Samarin, expect a whole lot of smooth color changes and great visual effects to go along with your physics-based orb collisions. It's a game of not-quite-controlled chaos that takes a big step in the webtoy direction.

Ice Stone Escape Not the most difficult point-and-click escape out there, and the pixel hunting can get a little annoying, but Ice Stone Escape delivers some fun logic and puzzles in this compact little game. Cute backgrounds and quirky, logical puzzles make Ice Stone Escape a fun mid-week break, something that will refresh your logic circuits and help you clear your mind for the rest of the week.

Storm Winds: The Mary Reed Chronicles The Mary Reed Chronicles is a quick, fun adventure game that puts you in the shoes of Mary Reed as she tries to rescue Princess Ann from a Demon airship (for non-Storm Winds fans, that's not demon as in monsters, but Demons as in people from Demo). The puzzles aren't extremely tough, but there will be times when you'll have to take some time to think about what to do next and there's not a lot of item combing.

It's a solid use of your time whenever you want to send some zombie heads a rolling.

Running Ink Running Ink, by Spelgrim, is a new paper parkour platformer with an artistic style that is uniquely inky, with drips and smears aplenty. It makes for a visual style that is stark yet fluid, and for a lively protagonist that is a joy to control. As the work draws inspiration from free-running, momentum control and quick reactions are vital to gameplay. It doesn't have a huge amount of depth and it's a bit short, but Running Ink's visuals and gameplay make for a fun well to dip a pen in for a half-hour.

Lucky Tower As a slightly dimwitted hero, you'll proceed down from the top floor of the eponymous tower in an attempt to escape... but chances are you'll meet your death a fair number of times along the way. Make sure you bring your sword and shield. Or fez and rapier. Or skull and mace. Or... you know what, we'll let you decide.

Reincarnation: All Hallow's Evil In this new fun-sized Halloween-themed installment of the popular Reincarnation point and click adventure series, control the snarky demon as he attempts to see if Darcy, a soul that has escaped from down below, has taken up his old ways. Use the mouse to manipulate and combine objects to complete your mission.

Letters from Nowhere It's dark and raining outside, and Audrey's husband, Patrick, hasn't shown up yet. Running home in the terrible weather, she gets the feeling someone is following her. She waits up all night for her husband to return, but he never appears. Fearing the worst, Audrey goes to the police and files a report. They aren't too helpful, though, and when she finds a strange letter whose author knows more than they should, she begins to investigate the happenings herself. So begins Letters from Nowhere, a somber, challenging hidden object game that ditches the gimmicks in favor of pure item hunting and atmosphere.

Weekend Download №158 Hey, you, weekend gamer. You want I should share games with you? You want they should be uh, fun? Good. Because I have games that are fun. RPG fun. Puzzle fun. Lasers fun. Lantern fun. What? You think lanterns are no fun? You think "flashlight.app" is more fun? Hmm. You need to play with lanterns more often, I think...

Twisted Lands: Shadow Town If you were to find yourself washed ashore a strangely silent island with a deserted town, you might have cause for alarm. But when you start seeing things out of the corner of your eye you might really start to worry. Especially when the person you love is missing too. Twisted Lands: Shadow Town is a fun, cheesy horror hidden-object/adventure title that isn't as scary as it tries to be, but is still enjoyable and definitely well made.

Haunt The House This is your chance to be the spook, and we don't mean the sort that stare at goats. This simply vibrant and unusual action puzzler by the Super Flash Bros puts you in the role of a ghost who seeks to haunt a house in peace and quiet, but your house has been overrun by a bunch of noisy party guests and it's up to you to scare the living daylights out of all thirty, yes thirty, of them.

Coaster Racer Coaster Racer is a first-person racing game where you compete against 16 other off-road race cars across eight elevated rollercoaster-like tracks. Complete each track as close to first as possible, or at least qualify to unlock the next track. Along the way, you can pick up cash on the course and finish races to earn money for upgrades and repairs to your racer.

Gravity Duck In this physics puzzle platformer from WoblyWare, the Maoi Duck God has demanded tribute, and has luckily granted you, his humble servant, power over gravity to fulfill his godly demands. Waddle through forty colorful and increasingly challenging levels, bounding from surface to surface, avoiding enemies and collecting golden eggs.

Wallace's Workshop Wallace and Gromit are back with another game, a physics puzzler that will well and truly test your noggin. Necessity is the mother of invention and apparently it's a necessity to get Crash-Test-Wallace from one end of a workshop into a waiting chute by inventing contraptions to help him get there. You'll use a variety of apparatus and mechanisms in your creations including balloons, motors, wheels and rockets. There's even dynamite!

Ghost Hacker In the battle between man and machine, what side will you take? You are a human who has volunteered to be "digitized" in an effort to bring a halt to the rogue AIs that are plaguing cyberspace. But who can you really trust? CoreSector's tower defense strategy game is an engaging, addictive title with eye-catching aesthetics, upgrades, enemy types, and an interesting story to tell.

Lilith and Emma: A Friend at Hallows Eve Emma and Lilith are two little girls with a lot in common despite some differences... like fangs and a few centuries. These two spot-the-difference games are meant to be played together for both perspectives, and the end result is a short but sweet little experience that lightens up the spooky Halloween season, and is perfect to be enjoyed with whatever little monster you have in your life.

Enigma A previous work from Rosetta Escape author, Otousan, Enigma is an escape game that takes place in a pretty bare bones room. While not the elusive perfect room escape game we are always searching for, Enigma is still an amusing beginning and highlights the ability of a new talent on the escape scene.

Heist Here are two creepy treats that will have you playing the role of a thief to avoid death traps in a creepy, abandoned house while seeking out some loot. And you might not get out alive. Cat burglars might have nine lives, but common thieves only get three. Using your mouse navigate through creepy, old houses to find keys, unlock doors, search rooms, and use objects to assist you in your thieving quest.

Boondog Boondog is an action/puzzle platformer similar to classic titles such as Another World and the original Prince of Persia. The main character is quite the acrobat, able to jump, climb, and leap all over the place at will. The action is parceled out in simple moves, though, forcing you to perform your physical feats one step at a time, and only after careful thought and execution. Add to that a bit of Sokoban-style barrel pushing and you've got an excellent diversion that tests both mental and physical reflexes.

Apokalyx Apokalyx is a turn-based RPG with a heavy focus on combat. Set 600 years after an apocalyptic event, you'll create a character and start fighting your way to being the top gladiator. Apokalyx works just as well in small doses as it does for long sessions of play. If you want a turn-based combat heavy RPG then this will keep you busy for a very long time.

Sky Serpents Sky Serpents, from popular developer Nitrome, casts you as a quasi-Norse hero on a sky-borne, gravity-defying quest to kill as many sky-serpents as you can to beat all records. Play Sky Serpents, not to save the kingdom or fulfill the prophecy, but to prove that you are the best.

Blosics 2 Level Pack Blosics 2 Level Pack is a new series of levels and a custom editor for the physics puzzler, Blosics 2. Shoot different-sized balls at various structures made of blocks, causing them to fall down. You have to deal with blocks on and around various stone, rubber and ice surfaces that effect trajectories, as well as exploding blocks and floating balloon blocks.
