Office Escape Made in just 48 hours for a recent Ludum Dare competition, this quirky little avoidance, escape game centers on one of those hapless souls who has what we hear is called a "real job". He needs to sneak out to attend his son's baseball game, but to do so you'll need to guide him past his chatterbox coworkers who want nothing more than to pile more work on. It's super short and super easy, but it's also super quirky, and the smile it can put on your face means its worth the short investment.

Brother It's another chilly day in the frigid mountainous north-lands. As seems to happen so often, an errant gust of wind has blown your family away from the safety of your cavern. With all the clanking machinery, dangerous lava pits, and mysterious ruins lying about, they could be just about anywhere. Yet... a chilly wind is blowing and the fire is never as warm when you sit by it alone. And so you tighten the hood of your parka and set out for adventure. After all, that's what a Brother is supposed to do. This quirky new point and click puzzle game from Luke Thompson may have an arctic aesthetic, but it certainly has quite the warm heart.

No Place Like Home There's no place like home, but in this beautifully atmospheric little point-and-click escape, it's hard to say if the dingy little apartment you find yourself stuck in could be called home by anyone. A lack of changing cursor makes this game harder than it might normally be, but a cleverly handled narrative and twist on a familiar story make this one moody little gem fans of the genre will want to check out.

Clostrum I've partied pretty hard in my time (this one night I drank four gingerales all by myself!), but I've never woken up in a dirty castle cell with only a manky old skeleton for company. You escape game fiends are probably used to it, but the rest of us have places to go, things to see, people to avoid! We don't have time to assemble a key out of four soda cans, an ancient mystical orb, and a rat tail! Come on... isn't there an app for that yet?

Deep and Blue Whales are terrifying; they're massive, you don't matter to them, and they could swallow you and not even realise it until they started burping up tacky resort-themed swim trunks a week later. Tube Crisis I've never been on a subway train, because if Fear Net and Chiller have taught me anything it's that they are the exclusive domain of creative murderers and sociopaths (thanks a lot, Clive Barker, Franka Potente), but apparently the truth is much ickier. In this short, silly point-and-click puzzler, it's your job to get the girl crammed in with other travelers a bit of much-needed breathing room by figuring out the correct order to click on things to get people to leave. If only real life were true to fiction, I would have found traveling by Greyhound much more palatable.

Appy 1000mg This beautiful but phenomenally depressing and unsettling bit of platforming gameplay meets interactive art was made for Ludum Dare 20 by Sebastien Bernard. You play an adorable robot in a colourful world, who wakes up on a ledge with no memories and sets out to explore and remember... or maybe not. I love art games as much as the next person, but sometimes I think all of these developers need more hugs on a daily basis because dang. The gameplay is potentially a little frustrating, and as one of my fetching coworkers points out it may be possible to actually wind up missing enough of the terrain past a certain point that you can't finish the game without reloading. Still, it's worth playing for how short it is and how effectively and shockingly it rips the rug out from under you. Just make sure you have some Spongebob Squarepants on hand or something afterwards.

The controls are a little awkward at times, and I wouldn't call it uplifting, but, hey! Ladders! Who doesn't like ladders, amirite?
