This severely unsettling first person horror game seems innocuous at first as your find yourself in a sunlit yet strangely empty room fallen into disrepair. Follow the trail of clues in a series of increasingly unnerving notes to get to the truth... and turn your sound up.
Put on your hip waders, because there's buckets of cartoony gore in this simple yet addictive action RPG with randomised loot and tons of unlockables. Can you take on a whole pack of demon lords as a favour to one? Heck, should you?

Little Red Riding Hood can't catch a break, and if she stops to have one, she's going to be bludgeoned with a giant carrot and then cooked in a pan while she plays the trombone, because it's awesome that's why. Anjo Pascual and Ray Sagun deliver a gorgeously animated and quirky arcade game that challenges you to last as long as possible as you click to make Red leap over attacks and obstacles, nabbing power-ups and more. Though on the repetitive side, Run Red Run packs quality and charm to burn, and we'd love to see a more fleshed out version.
Bam! Right in the nostalgia. Chris Martin puts a clever spin on one of the most notorious games of our decade by combining Earthbound and Flappy Bird for a game development jam designed to encourage and inspire. How long can you last flapping through some iconic locations past some mysterious office supplies before you take mortal damage and collapse?
In Earth Taken 2, an action platformer by SeethingSwarm, you are a survivor, trying desperately to shoot through the hordes of aliens who've turned the world toxic. So a lot like the first Earth Taken, then. Jocularity aside, though, while there's a lot that's the same, gameplay has also been refined, making this the sci-fi horror game the original could and should have been.
Let's protect the Moon! Again! In this fast-paced, lasers-everywhere defence shooter you'll mow down wave after wave of intruders in order to save a big hunk of space rock – and with all those cool upgrades and unlimited futuristic ammo, that will be no problem at all.
Can a game be both mellow and make you want to throw your computer off a bridge? If it's Hybrid Mind Studios' imminently stylish and simple avoidance game, then the answer is a teeth-gritting yes! Try to navigate yourself through a maze avoiding the walls that only appear when you click, which itself incurs a small penalty, so the object is to try to memorize the layout of the level to get through with your highscore intact. And your computer.
Help a cute, scampering demon-thingy storm the dark castle, crack the magic orbs, defeat devilish bosses, restore sunlight to the land, and score some sweet upgrades in Labyrinth: Secrets of ShadowHaven, a roguelike platformer by Nick Casto and Luis Castanon. The only real goal may be a high score, but the game's innate humor and likability sees it through
Who you gonna call? No, those guys are probably retired, and when your ghost problem is more of the match-3 variety, you need a specialist. This simple yet addictively charming little game takes you across 45 levels of arcade action as you deal with ghosts of all types that bounce and roll around the screen to make connections... just keep an eye on your timer!
Hiiiiiiiiigh-way TO THE monster zone! turboNUKE serves up more of the physics-based racing they're known for in this colourful game packed with upgrades and fangs. Fans might find little to pull them away from the more elaborate Cyclomaniacs, but you try telling a giant T-Rex in a monster truck that you've "been there, done that" and talk to me when you've picked the treads out of your teeth.
rottenmage's 48-hour entry for Global Game Jam draws inspiration from Terry Cavanagh's Don't Look Back to create a heavily symbolic action game where one wrong move means death. You play a man going about his "every day life", but in this case that means dodging lightning strikes, angry dogs, and... demons? Hmmm. Hmmmm, I say.
Improving its UI and crafting system while adding new worlds and creatures to contend with, this sequel to 2012's hit Motherload-esque mining simulation takes you to all new alien planets as you control a lost robot scrounging for supplies to repair and upgrade himself in a wide variety of ways.
Survive as long as you can against waves of enemies and increasingly badder bosses in Crionuke Games' arcade shooter, nabbing coins to spend on upgrades for your initially paltry plane. Be warned... not only does the game make the dangerous mistake of not using Danger Zone as a soundtrack, but once you die, you'll have to start all over from the beginning! (Though you'll keep your upgrades, mercifully.)
Normally I'd tell you to pick on someone your own size, but the pint-size powerhouses in Smallfarm's defense shooter don't need any protection! Unlock new heroes and upgrades as you hold the line against metal giants and more, and even rescue fellow tiny citizens to enable them to help you in your battles, but stay on your toes since enemies can attack you as well as the wall you're defending.
Pipkin Game's little red chomper guy is back for another round of Boulder Dash-like arcade action, in Crazy Digger 2! Cleverer puzzles, fairer enemy placement, and much, much better music mark Crazy Digger 2 as the kind of sequel that even those who skipped the original will dig.
A bounty hunter's life for me! After all, it's bandanas and cool motorbikes and shooting from all sorts of weapons, what's not to like? In Deadly Road Trip, you'll get the chance to take out as many bad guys as you like, collecting power-ups along the way and buying lots of upgrades so you can take out more bad guys. With great visuals and more than decent length, this is one awesome explosion-filled, unlimited-ammo old school arcade shooter.
The night is dark and full of terrors. You are one of them. You cannot see, but you can hear, and though they may hear you coming, they will not be able to stop you. Because he deserves it. Jord Farrell presents The Hunter, an intense, challenging, and intensely challenging, unique top-down stealth-based horror adventure, originally developed as part of the "you only get one" Ludum Dare 28 competition, now expanded and refined for a final release.
You've got more than nine lives and you're going to need them in this punishing platformer. Use jet-packs, teleporters, gravity switches and much, much more to overcome fiendish and deadly hazards in your journey to save the world. I think you can do it, even if the narrator is... less than encouraging.
Help the pixels escape the advancing glitch-wall of doom in Pixel Escape, a run-and-jump platform game by Jonny and Eugene. Pixel Escape can be a little overwhelming to the senses, but it'll be hard to stop playing till you've gotten every one of those darn things to safety.
Arrows, fireballs, glacial winds, and the unholy tortured spirits of the undead are at your disposal in this addictive and gorgeous but oh-so-grindy shooter defense game. Stave off waves of invading monsters and make use of extensive spells and upgrade trees... and a blacksmith on a turtle, because why not.
It's just you against an endless tide of sword-and-bow-wielding enemies in this simple but stylish little arcade game, so try to take as many of them out as you can before they take you out! More variety would have really made this one shine, but as it stands, it's still an interesting twist on a very simple formula.
Rebelde's "CLICK NOW DUMMY NOW NOW oh sorry not fast enough try again" game could also be called "Sliders" since that's unfortunately what the movement feels like, but it's still a cool concept. Your handsome blocky avatar has both a white and a black side, and neither can touch terrain of the opposite colour, so you've got to jump and dodge in the nick of time to avoid being obliterated, using ramps in the terrain to flip yourself over. Neat!
Eran Shabi apparently had a vastly different experience raising chickens growing up than I did, since I remember a lot less "chasing down and rescuing the birds from an evil race of anthropomorphic squid by laying a severe beatdown" and a lot more running around the backyard pretending I was trying to reach a distant heart piece in a Zelda game. It's cute, simple, and excessively violent. Sort of like actual chickens.
Good news: you now have the entire space station to yourself. Bad news: that's only if you don't count an endless supply of zombies. Jimp and Jay Armstrong serve up a fun and chaotic, if repetitive, zombie arena shooter with a fantastic design.
If this physics-based platformer feels familiar, it's probably because Ant Karlov has basically recreated playing their Zombotron games... only without any zombies or heavy weaponry. Hack and douse your way through destructible levels as a fireman with a big axe, but be warned that some of the level design actually allows you to become unable to proceed if you, you know, destroy some objects that the game allows you to, which seems like an area that could have used some polishing.
Another game created for the "You Only Get One" themed Ludum Dare, MakeBabi.es delivers a heart-stoppingly adorable arcade game where you play an acrobatic pup in a pet-shop performing stunts to impress a little girl and her mother. Once you get the hang of the mechanics it can be a bit too easy to grind points with easy tricks, but d'awwwww wookit its widdle face!
Time to mow down some bad guys... in winter! Battalion Commander 2 is the sequel of the popular vertical shooter, now with 100ore snow. With all new soldiers, enemies and missions, this action-packed game will keep you entertained for a long time – that is, if you don't mind slaying cute little soldiers dressed in pink.
I want candy! Especially if it's Candy Ride, the physics-platformer by Levon Vardanyan A slow-paced kind of work, with gameplay reliant on proper timing and movement, Candy Ride is more "rolling" than "rollicking". But it's a entertaining implementation of a creative premise.
The kingdom needs a hero to slay a dragon, but you need cash a lots of it! In this simple arcade action RPG, you'll charge through five levels of enemies, nabbing all the coin they drop and using it to upgrade your equipment. Though definitely short and nearly TOO simple, great visuals and simple fun still make it addictive while it lasts.
Fireballs. Tesla towers. Explosions. Power-downs. This arcade avoidance game puts a few chaotic twists on a simple concept as you must avoid everything the stages have to throw at you while carving up slices of the landscape!
Pixel Continuous' Ziggy stars in this upgrade-packed arcade game where the star of Humbug tromps through the snowy streets nabbing candy canes, evading the police, and punching people for presents. It's cute as the dickens, though an odd fit for a character who won hearts in surreal puzzle platformers, but is still an accurate representation of my family's holiday tradition nonetheless.
One arrow, but one shot is all you need. Unfortunately, that's also all the monsters trying to take you down need, too. Created in 72 hours for Ludum Dare 28's "You Only Get One" theme, Titan Souls is a gorgeous and atmospheric, if potentially a little short and simple, game that feels like a part of something bigger waiting to happen.
Fever Blue isn't the name of some hair product, but it'll leave your scalp tingling like one. In this short puzzle shooter made for Ludum Dare, you're told that the markings on the ground will guide the way, but you've still got to figure out how to use them while navigating a maze of deadly turrets and monsters.
It's the entirety of your existence as summed up through an endless-ish arcade fall through the sky! Each stage of your life is represented by a different mini-game, and finding out how to complete each one is part of the challenge. A lot of the games seem to drag on just a bit too long, but it's still a clever and quirky symbolical experience.
IriySoft serves up a very Mad-Max-y action game as you drive down a post-apocalyptic landscape blasting bikers, trucks, jet-packers and more to earn as much as cash you can for upgrades before doing it all over again. It's a little on the simple side, but should serve to awaken the road warrior that sleeps within you!
In the Podge's latest game, you control an eclectic strong-arm repo crew sent to recover valuable items from some people who really, really don't want you to. Use each character's special strengths and abilities to retrieve the most valuable items to reach your goals before time runs out!
Tender your resignation and escape you office filled with mustache-hating aliens in I Quit! Must Dash!, a one-button retro platformer by Casino Jack. The gameplay might be a little familiar to those who've played its one button brethren, but overall it is a well-designed, tough-but-fair challenge with a host of neat unlockables.
On the one hand, Adventure Island's adorable retro action game is exactly like a Gameboy Classic from the way it plays to the way it feels, but on the other hand... uh... exactly like a Gameboy Classic from the way it plays to the way it feels, which means it comes with all the frustrating issues like floaty jumping and simplistic gameplay on top of all that fantastic old school charm. Looking for something truly dedicated to being old school? This one has everything to take that title and is as lovingly crafted an homage to classic handheld gaming as you could wish.
Donley Time Foundation's upgraderrific shooter is exactly what it says on the tin... a near-endless progression of boss fights, all of which are randomly generated, that you take on with a jetpack and increasing arsenal! The style is great, and seeing what bizarro bosses the game crafts for you is always fun, even if most of them tend to go down in the blink of an eye.
Crash TV is a high-difficulty platformer whose protagonist is a strangely limber TV set. The goal is to connect to a big computer somewhere beyond a series of dangerous rooms. To achieve this, our little TV has to jump, grapple and sneak its way through holes, spikes and lasers.
You should have been attending your friends' wedding and having the exotic vacation of your dreams, but because you didn't read the terms of your hotel room, now you're stuck slinging pasta to order for hordes of picky customers in this latest installment of Flipline Studios' wildly popular and addictive simulation series!
Night Rider Turbo is an action driving game by Sos Soskowski where your car is going to fall apart. It's just a matter of time. So how far can you get in delaying the inevitable? One of those unique, gimmicky games that you'll somehow play through twenty times over the course of a week.
Continuing your mad dash for rescue from a post-apocalyptic zombie wasteland, this upgrade and action-packed sequel doesn't change the gameplay much as you crash through the undead and destructible barriers to rack up cash, but is just as entertaining as you'd hope.
Discover the rest of the story in this quasi-sequel to 2012's hit alien horror shooter. The disgusting, blood-filled, bullet-ridden, creepy-crawly story. Play as two different heroes as you explore both a destroyed space outpost and alien planet, earning upgrades and new equipment, and trying to discover the truth and get out alive without having your faces chewed off by shadow bats.
Part stealth game, part challenging platformer, Blade Rush's minimalist style masks a surprisingly fun and fast-paced game that forces you to keep moving as you zip around lethal stages taking out foes in one hit... before they do the same to you!
When the world has gone mad with invading alien monsters, insanity isn't a disadvantage in Madville, an arena brawler/shooter by Umut Dervis. Games with one-man armies facing off against wave after wave of snarling monsters are nothing new, but Madville gives the genre a shot in the arm.
It's the end of the world as we know it... and it's all your fault! In this simple (and grindy) yet addictive zombie arcade game, control a horde of undead with just one finger as you race through the city adding hapless citizens to your pack, nabbing powerful mutations, avoiding danger, and more!
Aliens have invaded Earth! You are the only one who can stop them! So you'd better go stop them! A nostalgic retro run-and-gun platform shooter by Sinclair Strange that hearkens to the 8-bit era, Alien Splatter may not entirely live up to the challenge of NES classics like Contra and Ninja Gaiden, but it's a pixelated good time.
Leap astride a tiny pony and ride into battle against a massive aerial assault force in this bizarre but fun shooter. Though initially slow to start and a little repetitive, it's unexpectedly charming and filled with upgrades and action.
It's tough to be a worm on a fishing hook. It's a bit easier when you have firearms, though. Bait and Switch is an underwater shooter in which a courageous red-headband-wearing worm fights for his right not to be eaten by particularly voracious fish. With lots of upgrades and types of enemies, silly graphics and solid mechanics, it's probably the most fun you can get out of simulated fishing.
Ready for more? ChrisJeff's compulsively playable and brutally difficult arcade game is back, with a new twist. Just hit the spacebar to jump over each obstacle. How difficult could it be?
Gather round, people, and witness the all new adventures of the world's only ninja miner! His incredible skills allow him to run faster than lightning, collecting gems and stars on his way. Now, in Ninja Miner 2, he will also slay nefarious creatures with his trusty blade and perform fantastic underwater stunts in thirty-two amazing new levels!
The way to turn the tide of any war is always more dudes and explosives. I don't know who said that. Probably Sun Tzu. But this simple yet addictive defense game piles on the action with basic, engaging gameplay and a retro style to keep you occupied for a while.
Grab your bombs and take a leap, because in this strange but fun arena action game, you play a lost monkey who has to blast her way down through a floating island full of baddies to defeat the boss and get back home.
