Hoshi Saga Ringo

ArtbegottiJust when you thought you had seen the last of the Hoshi Saga series, Yoshio Ishii of Nekogames returns, and in full color! Hoshi Saga Ringo is the fourth installment in the Hoshi Saga series, and while it might not be as difficult as its predecessors, Ishii-san brings new life to the game with his beautiful artwork and use of gradients.

Hoshi Saga RingoAs before, each puzzle asks you to click and drag your way to finding a star hidden within each screen. Feel free to click around and explore each level to find each solution. This episode contains 25 new puzzles to solve. Sadly, if you were a fan of the difficult five-star puzzles in past iterations of Hoshi Saga, you'll be a bit disappointed, as the highest-ranked puzzle here is two and a half stars. If you're new to the series though, this is an excellent warm-up exercise to get you used to the sort of puzzles used throughout the series.

Hoshi Saga Ringo Walkthrough

I hope it's clear. I don't typically write walkthroughs because my brain doesn't work that way. Mind you, scientists are trying to discover a way my brain WILL work, but that's a story for another day. Did you know the word "spoiler" stops looking like a real word if you type it eleventy million times? It's science! Onward!

STAGE ONE

From left to right:
1 2
3 4
Click the upper left corner of the first square. Then click the upper right corner.
Click the bottom right corner of the second square.
Click the bottom left corner of the third square.
Click the bottom right corner of the fourth square. Then click the upper right corner.

STAGE TWO

Click and pull the spikes up in the air, releasing them at the top of the screen. One of them (random) will turn into the star.

STAGE THREE

You are limited to creating a 7-square long path; lighting up an eighth square will erase the first square in the path. Once you've found where the star is, light up the squares in this order, starting with the top point:

~1
327
456

STAGE FOUR

Click the small round blue dot at the bottom right corner of the screen. Wait a while for the balls to roll out of the way, and eventually the star will drop down.

STAGE FIVE

Click on a rectangle to lift it into the air. Click on the bottom of it while its in the air to flip it upside-down. Move it over the tops of the other pieces, and click on the other rectangles to drop it down between them. Turn the pieces around and slide them into place to form a star.

STAGE SIX

Treating the screen like a 3D cube, click the top, bottom, back, and left and right sides in any order to have the shapes fall into place to create the star.

STAGE SEVEN

Click on the large purple block on the left hand side of the screen and drag it as far to the right as you can to create the star.

STAGE EIGHT

Click on the bump in the ground and drag it upwards to reveal the star.

STAGE NINE

Click on the corners of the leaf picture to make them fall away in slices to reveal the star. This can be done in any order.

STAGE TEN

Click on the picture of butterflies and, holding down on it, shake or spin the cursor in a circular motion to make loose pieces fly away, revealing the star.

STAGE ELEVEN

Click on the weight at the end of the chain and drag it up so it's hanging over the circle. Then pull the end of the chain down until the star is lifted up.

STAGE TWELVE

Click rapidly on the right side of the screen to make blocks fall that stack up to form an image of the star near the top of the screen.

STAGE THIRTEEN

Click at the top of the tree and drag it down to either side to reveal the star. You may need to do this several times, as it occasionally springs back up.

STAGE FOURTEEN

Click the three points marked below in that order as quick as you can.
http://yfrog.com/1astarsagap

STAGE FIFTEEN

Click and drag on the box in the center of the screen to rotate it. You can see flashes of blue through the small holes as the star falls around inside. The lines on the box represent the small "maze" within, so spin the box around carefully to help the star fall, using the holes as guides, until you can let it drop out of the exit. (The corner of the box that doesn't have the darker brown border around it.)

STAGE SIXTEEN

Click and drag the pink squares around on screen, pulling them all out of the center until you're left with the two large triangles. You want to place the squares you removed inside the space you've made in a certain order, so that the marks on them form a star. When you pick up a piece, it will rotate around until you drop it again. Just be patient and move carefully as you stack your pieces until you have the star in place.

STAGE SEVENTEEN

Click in the middle of the screen and pull upwards or downwards to reveal that the blue lines are actually two big waves that need to be pushed apart to reveal the star. Click and drag the bottom wave all the way down to the screen and release it, then quickly click the top wave and pull it all the way up to reveal the star. The top wave falls right back into place, while the bottom wave moves much slower, so you need to move the bottom first.

STAGE EIGHTEEN

Click and hold on the screen until the darker colour has slid all the way to the top and vanished, then release. The darker colour will slowly move back down the screen, but the star will build itself out of nowhere. Magic! Don't say I never treat you to anything.

STAGE NINETEEN

Click on the dots to reveal arrows pointing the way to the star. The star will be in a random position on the board. You'll have to click the correct dots or the board will reset itself.

STAGE TWENTY

Click and drag the mallet up and back until it's nearly touching the edge of the screen and then release. When it strikes the ground, it will form stars. If you pull it back too far or not far enough, the stars will look wrong and won't count.

STAGE TWENTY-ONE

Click the small letter i in the bottom left corner to flip the clock over and set it to "1:0", then click the bar below the numbers to flip it back around and reveal the star.

STAGE TWENTY-TWO

Click on the small while dots as shown below.
http://yfrog.com/jpstarsaga2p

STAGE TWENTY-THREE

Click on the small arrows to make paths for the star pieces. The stars will slide in the direction an arrow is pointing, and stop if they reach another piece or an empty space. Here is my solution, and the order I used to slide the pieces to form the star.
http://yfrog.com/1rstarsaga3p

STAGE TWENTY-FOUR

Requires patience. Green light streams in to form the star, but it can't form a line if a boulder is blocking it. Click on a boulder to pick it up and move it around. Click again to place it down. If you bump into a boulder with another, it will send it flying. You need to position the boulders around the screen so the light isn't blocked and they don't bump each other. Be careful, as they occassionally drift a little. Here's my solution.
http://yfrog.com/0dstarsaga4p

STAGE TWENTY-FIVE

BOSS FIGHT.
No, no. Not really.
It's a mini point-and-click maze. You click on a doorway to go through it. You're basically moving in a big square connected by these tiny rooms, looking for star pieces. Click on one when you find it to pick it up. You'll also need to find the key to open the door to the last one. One star piece is hidden behind a door that blends into the wall and you'll need to click it to open it up. Here's a picture of the SUPER SECRET door's location in case you miss it.

Just in case anyone gets stuck at Stage 5:

click the bottom of each "plank" to rotate it

WOO! Just in time for me to give it a try before I go to work, I love this series!

Woah! I never expected to see another Hoshi Saga! What a pleasant surprise!

Way too easy :/

Agreed, way too easy. This is the only Hoshi Saga I've been able to breeze through without having to use a walkthrough. While the graphics are nice, too many of the puzzles are repeated from previous sagas

Yeah, sadly that was a bit easy...

*sees 'be continued' in the credits*

\o/

I admit. After playing through it, within twenty minutes.. it did feel a little too easy. Then again, most stages were half a star to one star difficulty..

I'm stuck on 21.

At first my star was at the 12 mark, so I thought I had to wait until the top of the hour. But, now that it's around quarter of, the star has moved to the 6 mark. I can't click on anything. What am I supposed to do?

Nevermind, power of posting.

Check the lower left corner.

Alaira

you have to set the clock yourself. flip it over

Love these games. They're a little easier than the others in the series but that's ok. I found only 4 or 5 that I'm having some trouble with. The only thing I do find wrong is I cant stop and save the game so I can come back and play later. Every time I do I have to start from scratch again. If anyone knows how to save your progress please let me know. Thanks in advance.

[Edit: The game should automatically save your progress, but there are 3 different servers hosting this game to help with the load. Make sure you're playing on the same server each time, as your progress is saved based on the server name. -Jay]

Oh, hah. The way I solved 21 tells me I've been playing these sorts of games too much.

I didn't notice the button in the lower-left corner, so I just changed my system clock manually and it worked.

disappointingly easy

Dora, your solution to level 3 isn't completely correct:

As far as I can tell, you don't need to move fast at all. Rather, you're limited to creating a 7-square long path; lighting up an eighth square will erase the first square in the path. Once you've found where the star is, light up the squares in this order, starting with the top point:

~1
327
456

[Edit: Thanks for the correction! I've updated the walkthrough with your solution instead. Cheers! -Jay]

A little bit too easy, but this one is cool :)
I love the Hoshi Saga <3

ha ha ringo "star" get it?

(it was sort of a joke)

I liked it!
Hoshi Saga in full colour! And the textured, recycled paper look lends delicacy to the stars.
Avaricious for more...

Why is it rated O? There was absolutely nothing offensive in it. Is that just because of Hoshi Saga's previous work?

That was lovely. This was the first one of these games I did without a walkthrough. The only one that gave me trouble was Stage 20, but it didn't stump me for long. Still, it was a lot of fun, despite how easy it was.

Got it, but needed a nudge on level 5.

Is the start page a puzzle? All the level boxes are speeding through a bunch of graphics, and they all show "found". I can't select any of them. Anyone else have this trouble?

That was beautiful, and yes, reasonably easy. But that's fine. Occasionally it's nice to have a game that is easy enough to just sit back and enjoy the graphics, with just enough difficulty to make you really stare intently at the graphics :).

@Dora
Yeah words are weird that way. There's some sort of name for the trick where you say a word so many times that it temporarily loses its meaning. I don't remember the name for it. Apparently it works when you type too :P .

Stage five is the only thing remotely challenging in this game(until I found out the pieces could be rotated from the top).:)

This one was a little more fun. You get so excited when you find a star. Its easier then the other ones though.

Stage five is the only thing remotely challenging in this game(until I found out the pieces could be rotated from the top).:) Stage 7 is another.

Way too easy, but still enjoyable.

Nothing too difficult here. but I'd have to say I liked 16 and 19 best.

Love it. As entertaining as every Hoshi Saga game before it, if a bit easier.

Also curious about the "Orange" rating.

Woo, I did it without a walkthrough, hmm must have been easier than the previous versions.

I wish the last stage had some more difficulty to it. Though it was an interesting new level; completely different from previous ones.

Controls are pretty bad on some levels, especially in 5 (rotating) and 24 (sometimes it didn't release the piece and sometimes didn't start grabbing).

The O rating is presumably because of the two times the puzzle showed Conopi (for you older guys ''weed'')

Way too easy

i followed the walkthrough for stage 21, but it didn't work, so i figured that:

maybe the star's position changes, and you have to point the minute hand there.

A nice relaxing game, can't believe I missed the other versions. Now the links for the others don't work for me, any suggestions? I can get to the JIG pages, but the links there won't load.

[Edit: Be patient. The nekogames server is likely being hammered right now, so all the Hoshi Saga games may take time to load. I just verified that the links are correct and working myself, so you might want to try again, or a bit later. :) -Jay]

Thanks Jay, once again, you and your site ROCK!

Er, that's not a cannabis leaf - it's a Japanese maple leaf.

I keep reading 'Stg' as 'Sgt.'. Now that is weird when selecting a new level.
I like the way the game looks, it should have been a bit harder, but I can image it's hard to think up new ways of hiding a star after 3 games!

@Zabigdog
Since no one else seemed to notice your question, and you haven't rescinded it yet, the answer is: no, the start-page is NOT a puzzle. It sounds like your browser is having trouble. Try reloading the page, or opening the game in another browser.

@Zabigdog: Are you using Chrome? I'm getting the same thing.

Stage 21:

I think the position of the hands is random... mine had to be set at 1-30 to find the star...

You might want to correct the walkthrough there ;)

I had the same problem as Zabigdog, switched to Mozilla, and now I can play the game. Is there a problem with using Internet Explorer to play this game, perhaps?

Internet Explorer is evil and must be destroyed. Seriously, there is a problem with using IE. Period. Avoid it if you can.

Firefox and Chrome are much better browsers.

I am unable to start the game. I click the link and a 272909 think appeared at the bottom, then I clicked it again and now only a 0 appears. Anyone had this problem?

Never mind, it was just IE like you said.

Hoshi Saga Ringo was the easiest of all the Hoshi Sagas in my opinion :) i didn't need to look at any walkthroughs yay!

p.s.
i love these games!!!!!!! i've been waiting for this installment... if only it had been a bit more difficult =/ and even the ratings for each individual puzzle didn't seem as high as they usually are. still great none the less!

'Ringo' means apple in Japanese, too. Once I asked a Japanese friend to name all of the Beatles. She got stuck for a minute, then said, "...APPLE STARR!"

stuck at lvl 20

Stg 4 simply will not load for me. I just have to keep relaunching to play more stages.

I got 'em all on my own except 5 and 19. With 5, I didn't know clicking on the bottom of a tile while it was in the air rotated it (I figured there was some mechanism to rotate, but all the clicking I did was apparently in the wrong places). And for 19, it was just a matter of trial and error.

The game is beautiful in colour, but the difficulty level is too easy.

i'm stuck in 24 T.T u.u

Can anyone provide a little more help for stage 33? I'm totally stuck on that one!

why can't i see any walkthrough here?

[Edit: There is a large area just above the comments titled: Walkthrough Guide. You will need Javascript enabled in your browser to view the spoiler tags that hide and organize the actual content of the walkthrough into sections. -Jay]

A map for Stage 25 for convenience:

It's very easy...but pretty. Hats off to Ishii-san for the design. I especially liked the maze.

Lovely, made me smile...
Not ver difficult, but very beautiful.
