Minecraft Alpha Sometimes, a game goes through such a metamorphosis during its development cycle that it's practically a different product from its original release. Thus is the case with Minecraft, a little old building game, inspired by Infiniminer and Dwarf Fortress, and created by Markus Persson. Whether you can only play it for fifteen minutes at a time, or end up devoting hours at a stretch (often unintentionally) to it, Minecraft is intensely enjoyable, and an incredible bargain. Minecraft Beta will be out on December 20th, so this is your last opportunity to get the game at Alpha pricing and with the promise of all future updates for free.

Demons Took My Daughter When there is no more room in hell, demons will walk the earth, stealing soft plushy toys so you can't use them to find your daughter, unless you use a combination of platforming and defense to stop them... that's, uh... how that goes, right? Nerdook delivers another clever genre hybrid, this time putting you into the shoes of one weird dad trying to save his daughter from even weirder enemies.

The Infinite Ocean It's possible you might be familiar with Jonas Kyratzes' philosophical point-and-click, The Infinite Ocean. It was originally released back in 2003. Not entirely satisfied with the finished product Kyratzes has revisited the game and re-released this new version with changes to the writing, programming and music. It contains an amazing story that's revealed slowly as you progress, and it sets up a mystery that persists even after you get some answers.

Escape from the Dome Room Long before they discovered a save button, long before they found a competent translator, long before we first featured one of their games, Tesshi-e created this cute little puzzler that deserves a spot in the Weekday Escape spotlight. Give Escape from the Dome Room a try and enjoy playing this early and amusing effort from the brilliant Tesshi-e escape game designers. Despite the flaws, there is a lot of entertaining room escaping to be had.

Wizard's Run For those of you thinking your prayers for a fantasy-themed game based on the classic novel and movie "Logan's Run" have been answered, you'll have to keep waiting. The Nokkians 2 The Nokkians 2 is a new vertical shooter by Awoker Games. Using the term "vertical" is a bit of a lie, as one of the key features of this casual shmup is its game-altering screen effects which twist, turn, rotate and scale the entire game world as you play, making dodging bullets only half of the challenge. Add in a load of achievements, a great soundtrack, and gameplay that won't frighten the casual gamer, and you've got a great shooter that can actually draw you back for multiple playthroughs.

Boondog Boondog is an action/puzzle platformer similar to classic titles such as Another World and the original Prince of Persia. The main character is quite the acrobat, able to jump, climb, and leap all over the place at will. The action is parceled out in simple moves, though, forcing you to perform your physical feats one step at a time, and only after careful thought and execution. Add to that a bit of Sokoban-style barrel pushing and you've got an excellent diversion that tests both mental and physical reflexes.

Sky Serpents Sky Serpents, from popular developer Nitrome, casts you as a quasi-Norse hero on a sky-borne, gravity-defying quest to kill as many sky-serpents as you can to beat all records. Play Sky Serpents, not to save the kingdom or fulfill the prophecy, but to prove that you are the best.

Black Market (Beta) You'll be put in the space shoes of Vincent Wake, a greenhorn to the whole inter-planetary trading thing. Luckily, you'll both have the dubious guidance of Hardgrove, a man who lives inside Vincent's eye-patch (or rather I-Patch). Black Market's gameplay is at its most basic a resource trading simulation. You can smuggle illegal items if you want, but there's always a chance your cargo might get searched as you're docking. That's the least of your worries, though. A far bigger threat are the pirates that roam the trade routes.

Pirates vs. Ninjas Why can't pirates and ninjas get along? Why can't you crazy kids just join hands, or hooks, and sing a little Kumbaya? Why must you alternate through sixty levels of smashing, launching, physics puzzle madness? Your creator ought to be ashamed of you.

Book of Mages: The Dark Times In The Dark Times your main goal is to guide your young mage to the top ranking in the titular Book of Mages. The book is a listing of the top 100 mages in the world and you won't make it to number one by just gobbing around. You're going to have to do some real magic, you're going to have to go to arenas and defeat other mages in turn-based combat to raise your rank.

Super Mind Dungeon Super Mind Dungeon is a retro-styled arcade game that isn't afraid to make you walk the slow, trial-and-error-stocked walk from luck to skill. You play a chunky pixel character who happens to have a nifty psi-power that allows you to fling him through the air. This ability can only be used once, though, until you recharge it by bouncing off a non-metallic surface. Luckily this dungeon is filled with things to bump into. Uunluckily, many of those things are sharp and spiky in nature.

Moby Dick: The Video Game Moby Dick: The Video Game is a survival game in which you take control of literature's most famous whale. Grow to a massive size by chomping down on sailors, fish, birds and aliens. Nothing from the land, sea, air or space is safe from you! Keep an eye on your health and hunger and survive for as long as you can. Even if you don't care for survival-type games you should give this one a try.

Escape from the Same Room 2 Escape from the Same Room 2 contains everything we like about our Tesshikins: photorealistic graphics, catchy music, and logical puzzles. It's four interconnected rooms, all of which look alike at first glance: a little teakettle on a round table, a green box on a square pedestal, a mysterious picture on the wall next to a button that doesn't do anything. Obviously, you've got to solve puzzles that span all four rooms if you're to get out, with or without the usual Happy Coin.

Warlords 2: Rise of Demons No matter how many units the other side sends, the right side of the screen WILL be mine! Also, demons. Warlords 2: Rise of Demons, to be exact, a sequel to the smash hit original warfare game from Ben Olding. With ten races and 54 possible units for your strategic assaults, those demons, and the right side of the screen, are totally going down.

Run, jump, and move various blocks across two-dozen levels of retro-feeling goodness in an attempt to recover items to fix your broken airplane.

Heart of Ice Heart of Ice, an action adventure platformer from Eddy Larkin, is one of those games that really nails the fundamentals of what makes a game enjoyable. It's visually and aurally appealing, the boss fights keep the experience varied enough that it remains enjoyable throughout and there's enough secrets to keep you searching. Larkin has said that he's spent a year and a half on this game, and it shows.

Action Turnip!!! Raitendo's Action Turnip!!! definitely knows its roots. You, Lalu, are the Usher, charged with guiding the queen's soul to the afterlife, a task of great splendor and nobility. But that doesn't change how you feel now. All you can think is that you've been raised to die. If only there were some way out. The Usher is a game of interactive fiction, an entry into our first ever interactive fiction competition, Casual Gameplay Design Competition #7. As such, you use a text parser to interact with the game.

Loved Make a choice; disobey or not. Loved is a short piece of interactive art disguised as a platformer, and intended to make you think about the decisions you make. Is it successful? What meaning do you take from it? And is there a right way or a wrong way to feel about something?

Protector IV: Mercenary The fourth entry in the series is finally here: Protector IV. Twisted Fairytales: Robin Hood Remember that one time Robin Hood saw the UFO crash and found the ray gun? No? Well, try this goofy little spot-the-difference game and you'll sure remember it. A strange reimagining of the classic tale with beautiful artwork, a sense of humour, and four different endings.

Escape from Piano Room Escape from Piano Room is a fun, logical, challenging escape guaranteed to brighten up the mid-week. Be sure keep the aspirin (or Tylenol) on standby though, just in case, although escaping out into the fresh air should clear that headache right up.

Hold Your Ground What has royalty ever done that was so bad? Sure, there's been a few taxed-in-the-ground peasants and the trifling matter of some wars of conquest causing untold death and misery, but what's a little abuse of power between friends? Certainly it's nothing that deserves having one's castle knocked in on one's head. Hold Your Ground rectifies this situation by putting you in charge of building a defensive structure to guard the royal person. God save the adorable little bearded king!

Soccer Balls Line up your shot and try to take out all those pesky referees in this fun little soccer themed physics puzzle. Now if you, like many of us, can't score a goal to save your life but do have an uncanny knack for hitting random people in the face, there's nothing to worry about. Escape Series #5: The Freezer Hey, who turned down the thermostat? Shawn Tanner's challenging plot-less escape series is back, and this time you're stuck in a freezer. Examine every inch of your prison and try to find a way out before you get too cold.

CastleWars 2 CastleWars 2 is an unassumingly captivating turn-based strategy game that pits castle against castle, wall against wall, and decks of randomly selected cards against decks of randomly selected cards. Take turns with a computer player or a real human being as you draw from your pool of resources to play action cards that build your tower to the sky or crumble your opponent's castle to the ground.

Chubby Ninja Chubby Ninja is great for little snack-sized bits of platforming without ever feeling stale or repetitive. Plus it may help you remember bygone days at the ninja dojo. Try not to get too misty-eyed with nostalgia, or you'll miss that double-jump.

But hey, at least you have that nice snack of yummy bean jelly to help you when your energy is flagging. So get escaping! This is Weekday Escape, not Weekday have a light snack and a nap.

Take your time and really explore and a wide range of exciting new vistas will open up, taking the story in wild directions that have absolutely nothing to do with your original rescue mission and turning the whole game into a very surreal experience. Take the chance, explore the jungle (and points beyond), and immerse yourself in one of the more complex and satisfying escape games we've seen this year.

Building Blaster 2 The fun thing about video games is that they let us simulate actions that we would otherwise be unable to experience. It's just a natural law. That's where Berzerk Studio's new hit-people-with-things simulator comes in. Using elements from their various other games, your goal is simple. Take a short, blunt object, and a passing geek who epitomizes everything bad about the Internet, and hit him. Hit him as hard as you can, and see how far he flies.

Poto & Cabenga Poto and Cabenga are minding their own business, riding along and collecting golden feathers, when a giant skybeast swoops down and swallows Poto whole! Now you need to control both characters, racing along on the top and bottom of the screen, to eventually reunite horse and rider under usual circumstances with this challenging one button game of reflexes and action.

Escaping the Prison This week's room escape is... well, not an escape, per se, but an adventure disguised as an escape. How quick are you? How are you at decision making? Escaping the Prison by Puffballs United will help you find out. It will also help you find out how to fail. A lot.

Quietus After dancing the hemp fandango you are greeted by the Grim Reaper and offered an interesting proposition: run the gauntlet of Hell and be resurrected with a happier life. Run, jump, and dodge a host of deadly enemies and traps for a second chance in this challenging platformer.

When he appears below you looking nonchalant, you get a deep sinking feeling. Roofed is an offbeat interactive fiction title with a clever narrative that'll leave you wanting more.

Chaos Faction 2 Imagine, if you will, a world torn straight from the action-packed sketches doodled in a third-grader's margins. Knights fighting robots, aliens dueling vampires... the craziest, unlikeliest match-ups, set against one another solely for the fact that, deep down inside, your inner child knows that this is the stuff of awesome. Welcome to Chaos Faction 2, the bombastic brawlfest from Dissolute Productions.

Monkey GO Happy 2 Monkey GO Happy 2 is the perfect way to get rid of the office blues. How can you resist a game where your only goal is to cheer up a pair of adorable monkeys? The mini-games are all fun, cute diversions, bite-sized and only require a few clicks to solve. That's good, because your clicks are tracked, and at the end of the game you're ranked on how you did.

Stinkoman 20X6 Stinkoman 20X6, an old Videlectrix classic, follows the saga of the titular Stinkoman, an egocentric super-boxer who lives on Planet K and can never seem to keep his priorities straight. Party Foul I don't suppose you've ever felt trapped at a really tedious party, wishing you could throw off the shackles of social convention and impale your host on a cocktail weenie toothpick, make a rope out of your own hair to escape out the bathroom window, beat yourself unconscious with the cheese tray--anything to avoid listening to some guy tell you another story about his golfing ability? In real life it's the opposite of entertaining, but in Party Foul, it makes for a hilarious puzzle to test all your escaping power

ImmorTall Experience the world from the point of view of an alien who only wanted to help and ended up paying the price for it.
