Dangeresque Roomisode 1:
Behind the Dangerdesque

PsychotronicDangeresque Roomisode 1Dangeresque Roomisode 1: Behind the Dangerdesque is a short and sweet old-fashioned adventure game from Videlectrix, the faux video game company of the animated Homestar Runner universe. For the Homestar un-hip, "Dangeresque" is the hard-boiled detective alter-ego of Strong Bad, who is the lead narrator and practical jokester at homestarrunner.com. Dangeresque is so totally awesome, he wears mirror shades over his wrestling mask and wields a magnum with nunchucks taped to it. That's how totally awesome he is.

This is the first of hopefully many Dangeresque "Roomisodes", which just means that the entire episode takes place in a single room. Strong Bad/Dangeresque must solve a murder case from the confines of his office, because the chief thinks the case was solved months ago and his lazy detective just hasn't bothered to do the paperwork yet. How can Strong Bad provide physical evidence from a crime scene without leaving his office? That's where you come in, gentle readerplayer.

Dangeresque plays like a standard side-view adventure game, such as Ben There, Dan That. Move Strong Bad with [WASD]. Click on interesting objects with the mouse, and then talk to, examine, or use them by clicking on the appropriate icon. The game is non-linear, with three separate problems that can be tackled in any order, and the solutions require a pleasing mixture of playful experimentation and lateral thinking. The main attraction here, as with any Videlectrix game, is the surreal witticisms, so it's fun to exhaust all the interaction possibilities.

This is a very short game, but it exhibits the quality, humor, and good-natured spirit that we expect from Homestar Runner and the Chapman brothers. If you like this, you might also be interested in the downloadable Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People from Telltale Games, which has just reached its own Dangeresque-themed episode.

Walkthrough:
Step 1: Gettin' the evidence.

Try to grab takeout off the safe. Looks like it's stuck.

Pick up the coffee mug.

Go around to the chair and spin on it. After all, what else are office chairs for?

Read the business card that falls out.

Open the blinds.

Use the phone to call Takeout Support.

Grab the takeout.

Use the takeout on Dangeresque.

Use the coffee mug on Dangeresque.

Time for another spin on the office chair. ....Ugh, case solvin' is nasty work.

Attach the "evidence" to the casefile.

Step 2: Takin' the photo.

Try to open the safe. Oops, better look around for that combination.

Use the carpet to pull up a corner and expose some faint writing.

Hit the light switch on the right wall.

Look at the writing beneath the carpet corner. Bingo.

Pick up the camera.

Open the blinds.

Put the takeout on the windowsill.

Take a picture of the building beyond. Nice.

Attach the photo to the casefile.

Step 3: Solvin' the case.

Stand in front of the desk and hit it.

Grab the "unsolved" stamp and close the desk.

Use the stamp with the rancid Sweet n' Sour Sauce on top of the safe.

Use the stamp with the casefile. Make sure the "un" in "unsolved" is off the left edge of the page. Good work, Dangeresque!

I'm stuck and I have

dragon man takeout and the inked UNSOLVED stamp

I don't know what to do next.

Try 'using' all the things you can see in the room - even the ones you wouldn't think would be of use.

If you need more help try:

using an object and then looking at it in a different light..

I have to say as soon as i started the game and was greeted by the deliciously VGA-styled graphics of the intro, I was smitten. Awesome game.

Ok! Thanks now I got the

Camera!

I really like

spoilers! :P

I just beat it, but I didn't get all the points. Here are a few clues that might help people:

Have you tried to "take out" the window?

Have you ever gotten dizzy and thrown up after eating and drinking too much?

"UNSOLVED" is just "SOLVED" with an extra two letters.

Note where the moonlight shines when the lights are off. Perhaps there's something there.

Incidentally, the title's wrong. The subtitle should be "Behind the Dangerdesque."

[Edit: Thanks, fixed. ;) -Jay]

One thing I cant figure out is how to get the picture. I already have the carmera though.

Twichy:

You need two things: an attacker and a victim. Point the camera at different things and see if you can find either.

I can't seem to see what's written

under the rug.

Completely stuck.

I GOT GONNA HAVE TO JUMP!
seriously though this is a great point and click adventure(paca) if a bit short and its a homestar runner game! i can't wait for the next episode!

Jay

With the window open and the lights off just use the 'look' function on the greenish writing under the rug. Dangeresque will then realize where he had written the combination to the safe!

Jay:

Usually things are easier to see if you've got more light. This time you should try the reverse.

I'd write a walkthrough, but I don't have a good handle on film noir style.

Ooops,

sorry Jay, posted too fast

it's window CLOSED

my bad

Thanks. I tried that, but all I get is

"I can't see anything under the rug in all this moonlight".

Oh! xD

I'll try it with the blinds closed. Thanks!

There's a glitch that lets you get bonus points.

Put the un-solved stamp( with ink )in the window. Pick it back up and the game thinks you retrieved it from the drawer and awards you 5 points. The ink is no longer on the stamp, so you can get more points by reapplying the ink. Put the stamp back in the window and repeat...

I love how my comments always seem to disappear and then mysteriously reappear under someone elses name and they get credit.

Our intrepid hero brought back memories of Roger Wilco and Leisure Suit Larry for me.

Fun stuff!

Finished with 185 out of 170, not sure how though..

I did everything it said on the walkthrough, but I got sent to jail and it said "game over" makes sense. Anyone know what I did wrong?

Paul - might it have been because you implicated yourself in the murder by solving it?

Here's something that may make this game a little easier:

If you wait a moment at the "GAME OVER" screen, you can go back to right before you made your fatal mistake. This saved me when I messed up stamping the file.

Paul, what was the last thing you did before ending up in the slammer? We can help you if you tell us.

So, I've got

the evidence

but when I

try to attach it to the casefile

strongbad tells me "I need to WASD myself closer." I've tried getting him close but I can't seem to find the right spot. Is this a glitch or am I missing something?

nm, I had to:

be standing behind the chair, not in front of it, to attach stuff to the file.

How Fun! I LOVED that! Entertainment at the highest!

Great game, but I thought that it was way too easy. I got all points on my first play-through, and I never even had to guess.

the last thing i did was what it said on the last part. Attach The Evidence To The Casefile. the only thing in the room that was like that was the folder thing against the wall. i put the only thing in my inventory "chinese takeout" to that and it made a mess and i got sent to jail. plus it said to put the chinese take out on dangerdesque and it wouldn't work.

Two related minor quibbles about the walkthrough:

The blinds do not have to be open to get take-out support in part 1

The blinds do have to be closed to see the numbers in part 2. If one were following the instructions from part 1 before part 2 as written the blinds would be open at this point and the writing would not be visible

But overall, well done KCyrre!

I loved it. Shows you can create an """escape a room""" that is original. And "fake the evidence" was once in a while a real refreshing objective..

I can't believe no one sees this game's similarities to Sam & Max: Hit the Road! It's a classic!

Woo! homestarrunner.com finally posted something new!
Seriously, I'm desperate. I'm about to go through all of the old sbemails.

Love the old school graphics and the no-nonsense interface. The WASD movement in a point-and-click adventure can be a bit clunky, but overall it was a fun time. While I yearn for an adventure game that hasn't been chopped up into bite size "episodes" (I'm talking to you, Sam & Max!), I'll take what I can get. Here's to hoping there's plenty more to come.

Sorry if this shocks anybody, but would this game appeal to non-Homestarrunner.com fans? I don't hate Homestar, I just never really got that much into it. I might just have to later on, though.

I can't think of anything in this game that would make it inaccessible to your average casual gamer bumpkin.
Sure, a HSR fan will smile a little bit more when a known character or recurring line pops up, but the game isn't reliant on these.

How do you spin on the chair?

JIGuest,
you have to WASD your way down there.

I think the part where the sumo-delivery-guy comes out is so funny!

i keep looking under the carpet, but it just says i can't make it out, i cant get in the safe, i cant get a camera, i got evidence and the solved stamp in the folder, but i cant get the safe combo; help please

where is the camera its not on or in his desk or on his inventory so where is it?

Strong Awesome & Kevin:

The room has to be very dark to see the safe's combination. The camera's in the safe!

Suprisingly, the delivery guy is named Pom-Pom.
Pom-Pom is Homestar Runner's best friend, and Homestar runner and Dangeresque(Strong Bad) are worst enemies.

i cant see the combination under the carpet someone rely and tell me the combo.

This isn't working. Every time I try to do the "taking the photo" step, all I get is "can't see under all this moonlight..." or "faintly scribble.... can't make it out" How do I get the combo?!?

You mean you have to make Dangeresque puke?
Yuk...

Glitch has the character stuck next to the chair. Can't be bothered...

You forgot one part.

LOOKS LIKE I'M GONNA HAVE TO JUMP!!!

I think this game deserves a yellow rating more than a green rating.

[Oh? For what reason? If you provide your reasoning we will reconsider the rating. -Jay]

Lol, 9 months without a reply. :p

For mild language such as "Crap" and mild suggestive themes.

Alright, so... where is the next game?
