Vortex Point 7 - Waddington Swamp
Events rarely unfold as you'd hope when you're stuck in a swamp, and that isn't about to change in Carmel Games' Vortex Point 7 - Waddington Swamp. If you live in the UK it probably won't have escaped your attention that Waddington's is a British game institution which has published, amongst other things, Cluedo, Risk and Monopoly. Perhaps the makers were hoping some of that gaming-magic would rub off by association.
As with previous incantations of this series you take charge of Paranormal Investigator and part time Frozen-Food-Packer Kevin as he guides Dr Prescott through our watery setting. Despite Kevin's warnings of vanished explorers and skeletons washing ashore the rational, reasonable - and very rude - doctor is not to be dissuaded from conducting his own research and taking Kevin along for the ride. The final joke is on the Doctor, however, who ought to have been less sceptical and more wary (or at least have read the huge 'DANGER' sign before getting on the boat).
With it's cute animations and bright primary colour-scheme this will be immediately familiar as a Carmel game so expect it's usual gentle pace, oddball characters and fun voice acting. The puzzles are relatively simple but a couple of fiendish challenges turn this game from a 5 minute distraction into a lunchtime teaser. There's even a fairly surprising plot twist to catch you off guard. For newcomers to the series or seasoned veterans alike this game will provide you with some indoor entertainment during the June rain.
