Link Dump Fridays

DoraI'm not going to lie to you, dear reader. I'm pretty wrung out. I almost didn't make it through the week, but there was Link Dump Friday, fluttering ahead like a glorious banner heralding the beginning of the promised land that is the weekend! So I've mustered my strength and plucked out five new games for you to try your hot little hands at, encompassing all sorts of genres. And now, if you don't mind, I'm just gonna... just gonna drag myself over here. No, no... I'm good... I don't need anything, this pavement is comfy. Just try not to step on me while I... rest my eyes a while...

  • Super Mega BotSuper Mega Bot - Regular robots are boring. What you need is a super mega one. This little arcade game has you controlling a very bouncy little robot who can't stop moving, guiding him past all sorts of hazards across each stage. YZIGAMES knows how to make one adorable protagonist, but I'm afraid that when it comes to intrepid little robots, my heart belongs to another. Also, I heard there's some sorta Mega Dude thingy the kids these days like? Cornflangled new ideas...
  • Ornament KeyOrnament Key - Trilby has put up with a lot, but somehow I think this set of time-trial puzzle locks would have been the straw that broke the camel's back. Assemble ancient ornate locks in order to proceed past increasingly elaborate gates in this simple but well made little puzzle game that tests your speed as well as your eye. There's not much to it, but the clean, appealing design and three difficulty settings makes it a nice, light, refreshing snack of a game.
  • PinocchioPinocchio - Hark! What light through yonder window breaks? 'Tis another crazy point-and-click game, and Minoto is the weird but wonderful sun! As usual, there doesn't seem to be many similarities between the original fairytale and Minoto's spin, which includes pandas, enslaved ghosts, and toilet paper, but darned if it isn't cute. I was never actually a big fan of the original Disney adaptation... Monstro was way too scary. But hey, I'm a big girl now, and I have big girl fears, like that one chick from Audition! (Piano wire has so many uses.)
  • Tesla Death RayTesla Death Ray - Defense games just got a whole lot more shocking! (Heh, heh.) Fight off hordes of science enemies by zapping them with a very impressive incarnation of the iconic coil, upgrading it along the way to contend with the increasingly powerful troops that would destroy it. Man, Tesla was pretty awesome. Of course you know, celibacy was the secret to his genius. ... TESLA!!!
  • Lofty Tower 2Lofty Tower 2 - Oh brave stacker-of-stuff-upon-other-stuff-what-needs-stackin', we call upon you once again! Kornushin delivers a new twist on the familiar physics puzzle formula by requiring you to build each teetering tower of blocks on any given stage to a specific height requirement before bestowing upon you an Ancient Mystical Doo-dad. If you liked the simple fun of the original but thought it needed some pan-pipesy music and an ancient aesthetic, this one's for you.

I like Ornament Key. I just barely beat it on easy, and that's good enough for me :)

Only Minoto could think of a game where Moses (or Noah or Jesus or whichever bearded prophet that is meant to be)

poops a seed!

Love it.

Woops, I think playtomic is feeling about as good as you at the moment, Dora. P'raps that can't quite handle the tidal wave of JIG traffic. I suppose they can't shovel the bytes out fast enough. This is all to say, of course, that I get a time-out error when I visit the link for Lofty Tower 2 (and a certain website that is helpful for this sort of thing says that it is indeed down for everyone, not just me).

Hopefully you'll both be feeling better after a good night's sleep :)

[I've hosted the game and updated the links above, so it should be smooth sailing now. :) -Jay]

Oh my gosh, Hark A Vagrant! I'm so happy, that is one of my favourite of her strips. :D She is so funny.

Ah, Minoto. You may have exceeded your own bizarre barriers this time. The twist that @Jim_in_Oz identified was truly unique,

particularly the part where you have to break into the sewage pipe to get the "seed,"

but my favorite part had to be

when you bind the formerly tormented ghost to the wooden sculpture to bring Pinocchio to life.

No Blue Fairies for you, Minoto; no love from the sad toymaker; just

a horrible wooden spirit-golem that will inevitably break free of its binding spells and destroy us all.

Minoto, you have finally broken me.

So does anyone notice the simularities between "Super Mega Bot" and "Faultline" by nitrome?

I mean, the graphics have clearly been ripped off. It really isn't on and things like that should be brought to everyones attention. I think you should probably add a note and mention that in its review.

Thanks for the inclusion of Tesla, Dora! We're working on a sequel with celibacy upgrades :D

Tesla Death Ray was great, but too short. Once you get all the upgrades, the attacks keep getting stronger until eventually there's no way to win. It would be nice to at least be able to keep upgrading maximum health and energy.

Both Ornament Key and Lofty Tower 2 were good fun.

Same as OrigamiMarie. I just beat Ornament Key in easy, and I found it hard enough.

Super Mega Bot and Ornament Key are the bomb! Tesla Death Ray reminds me of the reformatory[chuckle].

@milkyjon: Damn, I thought SMB was familiar. Hopefully its just a coincidence. D:

@JIGuest, actually Tesla does end after round 20, so your final defeat is not assured. At the end you receive the message "Congratulations! You defeated the final wave!" Not quite "Now that jerk Edison will get his just desserts, and David Bowie will win an Oscar for playing you in the movies," but at least it's not falling to Nazi flying saucers.

I appreciated Ornament Key having an Easy mode. I was never even near running out of time, which made it super enjoyable.

After I finished, I tried playing it in Hard mode, and after about 5 levels, I started to feel a bit carsick from the tension, so I gave up.

3 cheers for games that have both easy and hard modes.

Ornament key is super tiring using a trackpad. Pretty good though (:

if anyone cares about how the game does it in fact.
) moving of zombies. Moves move to your fort, unless they are in a graveyard, dump, mall or policestation. A mall can thus be a good temp. shield if you do not touch it.
) it determines the amount of new zombies to be spawned (unless you discovered the cure), this is a complicated function without various jumps, but the only inputs are day and difficulty level.
) these zombies are distributed over the empty squares by random.

About the discussion, I'd differ between "broken game mechanics" and "broken logic". A game can have broken logic and still be a well on the go in its game mechanics. Almost all games have some broken realism logic when you think of it. The whole consept of "levels" and "lives" is some strange thing.

For Pinocchio, it says I've only attained one of the possible ends? :( I'm thoroughly confused.

Tesla Death Ray was great! It was like Defend Your Castle, but less sore wrists and more lightning. Much win.
