Haluz adventure game

The summer of surreal surprises continues with this Flash adventure game from Slovakia. Haluz is a game of the point-and-click variety that contains several scenes and a variety of simple puzzles that must be solved to advance.

What do you do when a very large bird makes off with your rooftop satellite dish? Well, use the resources around you to your best advantage and get it back.

Analysis: Haluz is a beautiful game within its class and the closest I've seen come to the stunning imagery seen in Samorost, which is without a doubt the inspiration behind this game. Although similar in appearance, the puzzles here pale in comparison and are sometimes awkward and confusing as to what must be done. For example, the very first and last scenes took me quite a bit of time before I figured out what to do. Still, if you love games like this you will likely enjoy Haluz, too.

Play Haluz

(I'm guessing the name of the game comes from the little guy that waves "hello" at you in each scene?)

Cheers to Patrick, Graeme, and Tom for suggesting this one today. =)

seems excruciatingly easy to me....

That was too cute, Jay. Honestly, I don't know how you find these things. Thanks!

The game seems pretty nice. But im having trouble where your little blue elephant is on the branch and there is the nest with the spoon, the satelite dish,a ruler,a nail, and two peices of something in it.

Reply

lobster -

You have to build something with all those objects, which isn't very evident other than the fact that the objects can be dragged around. I didn't care for this puzzle much at all

Reply

A nice game. Not the best, but it's good for passing the time. Some of the sections were hard, especially the last one and the one by the lake. Anyway, I think that the backgrounds are real pictures. ^_^

...The bird looks like a cross between a dodo and a hummingbird to me. XD

And lobsterertainment

the objects will make something that he can use to get home. They should be placed in the area just above the nest.

Reply

If you hate hunting for hotspots, the tab key is your friend.

OK, so I put the

razor blades on a spoon, and a satellite dish in the spoon

. What now?

Reply

argh! I'm stuck at the same place as lobster

I'm sure the satellite thingie etc makes a planeish thing but I can't for the life of me get past the 2 razorblades, spoon and satellite dish where on earth do the ruler and the nail go?

Reply

im stuck at the place where i put the feather

in the fire

......then what to do????

Reply

ooo nm im ok for the fire

Reply

Does this work on Mac? Just making sure since I am having trouble :P

Lobstertainment August 2, 2006 10:34 PM

Aha!Okay...

Put the radar dish in the cup of the spoon
Put one of the razors at the end,on top of the spoon.
Put the other razor right below the other.
Put the ruler on about the middle of the spoon.
Lasly place the nail on the ruler where it lays on the spoon and click on your little elaphant dude and he will fly away.

Imok - I played the game on my Mac (10.3.9, Flash Player 9)

Great Game. Beatit within 7mins

Reply

Alright, so it's just me... lol!

how the heck do I get the mouse to eat that cheese??

Reply

Imok - well, you don't. It's something else that eats it. ;)

Reply

So the bird keeps farting and nothing else happens. I don't get it.

Reply

Tricky tricky... well after a bit more reading for AP Euro I will find out what else eats cheese... could it be Wallace???

Reply

LOL. Seth, no you're right, you haven't gotten it yet. ;)

That scene is actually one of the better puzzles, probably the most difficult one of the bunch. Here are some hints to move you along with it...

  • do you have the feather? If not, have you tried approaching the snail? It looks like there may be an exit up and off to the left.

  • So you do have the feather, have you tried to put it in the fire? Maybe that will create a diversion for you to escape the creature under the snail?

  • have you noticed that clicking the flowers causes the bird to hover nearby?

  • have you noticed that the smoke is affected by the bird's flapping wings when it's nearby?

  • if you time it just right, I'll bet you can blow smoke in the creature's eyes

Reply

lobster:

you say to put the ruler on the middle of the spoon
what do you mean?
i cant and am frusturated to death

help me!

Reply

rowbear:

keep moving the objects around in the space just above the nest. It takes a lot of adjusting to get it right. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

And you're right, that puzzle is frustrating. =/

Reply

someone should design a game where the spaceship from samarost and the one from this game have some kind of epic space battle maybe for like master of the point and click universe

Reply

i love xx13xx's idea!!!! haha

Reply

Follow-up for Haluz II:
The poor fellow living at the tree in the middle of the lake steals the sattelite disks and uses it as a raft to fetch back his propeller.

Reply

yeah, the part where the elephant thing steals the windmill bugged me. and the

spoon glider at the end

is just frustrating. and the

snake and the bone and feather

doable but a little counterintuitive?

is there life after samorost? i'm starting to wonder. even things that ought to be fairly good of their own accord just don't quite measure up. possibly i'm just spoiled and biased.

PS the little hat man from samorost could kick the elephant's butt.

from Europe? Would be nice to correct that, its from Slovakia.

it's interesting... in hebrew, haluz means pioneer.
but it's from slovakia so... i think it's only coincidence.

Reply

Gah! Completely stuck at the very first screen. The only things I seem to be able to do are:

Drag the cheese, but it won't go anywhere
Get the mouse to stick his nose out, but he does nothing
Hover over or click the flowers, which makes them smaller, but does nothing else.

Help please!

I really enjoyed this game. There were some great scenes, particularly the bit with the frog.

try finding a hole that the chees might go into

Reply

Meme

Where to put the cheese...

There is more than one mouse hole....

Reply

Thanks, Tonypa, I've corrected it. I was going by a list of Internet suffixes that I looked up, some of which didn't even have the .eu suffix. The first one I found had it listed as "Europe."

Reply

im stuck at the place where you have the conveyor belt and the snake thing in the pot, i switched the wires and the tape is playing and the snake is dancing
now im stuck!

Reply

Thank you, Jay, of course Slovakia is part of Europe, just that Europe is large and involves many countries. So, saying the game comes from Europe is not wrong, but saying it comes from Slovakia is more precise.

The eu suffix is new one, added this year I think. In theory every person or company from any country in the European Union can register it. Just reminding that not all european countries are part of European Union. It might also happen that not all countries in the European Union are european (Turkey, Russia).

Reply

now i got out and im stuck again

Reply

Thanks again, Tonypa. =)

I agree, to be more precise is better.

Reply

OK... so I've been at this for a while and I'm about to just stab my laptop. I've

tied the rope (conveyor thing?) to the rocket ship... so now what? How do I make it go there? I click the lever thing and the lady comes out and craps. Thaaaat's all.

The name is actually in Slovak language and it is a pun. Haluz means both a branch of a tree and is a slang word for hallucination. It has nothing to do with pioneer, I am afraid as stated by someone before me.

Reply

I'm having trouble placing the ruler, it won't go on the spoon. I have the razors and the satellite on though.

Reply

Okay, figured that out, but what is everyone talking about with this frustrating elphant. I saw no elephant, and now I've beaten the game twice, whatever.

Reply

Nevermind.

Reply

Just for the fans.

Haluz means twisted or crazy in Slovak....

Reply

on the last part, once the wee man is in the hole, what do you do then, the bird doesnt fly away, and i cant click anything!!!! HELP!!! PLEASE!!!

Reply

Okay, on the screen with fire and feather, I've done everything needed to get elephant man to climb onto the horned snail. There he sits, waving at me...and the only hotspots I can find are the farter and the hide-a-bird, neither of which appears to do anything useful. Mr. Elephant looks like he's ready to ride, but how do I get him going??

im so damn comfuzed...i was on the first screen, i stole the dish sattelite, i clicked sumthing and i saw a girl mouse watching tv and a guy mouse walks out and throws somthing at the bird that stole this sattelite and then i put the cheese in the hole...next thing i know a rocket fires out and the screen goes all black...did i beat the game?!?!

Reply

ok nevermind i did it again and it worked

Reply

Ok I beat it!
First screen:

you have to steal the dish satellite first and then click on the door on the right, drag the cheese to the smallest hole, the hole that you CAN'T click on.

Reply

Ok here's the first screen

you have to wait until the bird steals the dish satellite, then you click on the door on the right, you drag the cheese to the hole on the left on the tree opposite of the snake, then, just wait till the rocket comes out.

Great-looking game, but quite unpolished.

By far the messiest thing is dragging those big objects around. I hated when Samorost 2 implemented this instead of the simple click-at-the-right-place-at-the-right-time mechanics, but at least there it kinda worked. In this game it looks clumsy and amateurish. Puzzles are either too easy or pure guesswork.

I am looking forward for the next effort of the designers, since it seems there is some talent behind all this. All in all, the game is a dud, but a dud with promise of future goodness.

P.S. I would get rid of the farting bird. Really.

Reply

I get past the 1st part but the screen just goes black after that.

Is that a lobster? I thought it is a wild flower eating the butterflies up..Don't think too much, build an airplane and go back home for a tv show! (it did took me quite some time to build it cause it's not as easy like you think as simple dragging, you must know where to put the objects first)

Reply

Finished the puzzle, but only with liberal use of the "tab" key (not to mention lots of help from JIG-people in making the spoon-glider).

My take on it:

Haluz is a visually rich game, reminiscent of Samorost, but that's where the comparison ends. While, as in "Samorost", you "can't do anything wrong," it's still largely a matter of trial-and-error. The point-and-click interface is combined with an element of "drag the pieces to the right spots." Unfortunately, these spots are hard to find, and there's no definitive sound or graphic that confirms a move is "right." It's that uncertainty that makes it frustrating. Gorgeous graphics can only count for so much.

It's no accident that this has a strong Samorost-like feel. According to another website , the author's goal was a sort of mini-tribute:

"My name is Tomas, I am 27 and I live in Slovakia. I wrote this game just for fun and in my free-time, it took me about 7 months:)
The reason why I made this game was that after playing Samorost I was so inspired that I had to make something similar:):)
I have a lot of photos from nature and this was the way how to use them in a funy way…
For all people that would like to know what Haluz means: it is a tree-branch in Slovak language, but it also means something weird, dream-like and funny (from the word "halucination")."

So consider it an homage, and a nice way to show some beautiful photography. In that, I'd say he did a darned good job. :o)

Reply

Fun game! Does anyone know what the music is on the part where there's the trumpet snail and the farting bird? Sound familiar... But I can't put my finger on it... And it's driving me mad.

can someone please make a full walk through pls? im stuck.

Reply

Dear Jay and JIG Community:

I would like to reply to Candice's request and create a step-by-step walkthough for Haluz. I think I know how to use the "spoiler" tags now, and I've played it through a couple of times (with your help). It would be good practice for me, and I'd like to offer JIG at least a few walkthroughs. He's/you've given me a lot.

Please give me a day to recover. Yesterday I lost a very close friend to cancer. I'm a bit of a mess.

Is there anything I need to know before I write this out? Do I send it anywhere in particular, or just post it here? Any other really obvious info that I'm totally missing?

Thanks in advance any help and advice.

haha. If you are wondering what is on the back of the snail you ride, it's suppossed to be a shell, but it is a French Horn. I play the French Horn...

Reply

That RULER, dagnabbit!! It won't go anywhere! Isn't it supposed to be like, aligned with the spoon handle or something close?

It's maddening. The little screw also, won't go anywhere. A few pointed hints wouldn't hurt, if anyone's got 'em. =\ Pleeeeeeease.

Reply

Oh lovely, I get it right when my previous post shows up.

Pointed hint for the ruler business -

(How I got it, anyway) was, I clicked on the top end of the ruler...not the edge, just the top area as opposed to the middle or bottom; and the place where it finally 'clicked' into place, is where the spoon head meets the spoon handle. I think the pointer/top of the ruler was actually a bit above that spot, but try that area. Should work. Good luck!

walkthrough

1. Click the door on the right. Drag the cheese in the small upper black hole. The snake will eat the mouse and you will be able to go right.

2. Once hanged in a tree with your parachute, run your mouse over the bird to fall down. Click the small lever to your left and hang the noose on your ship. Click the elevator next to the tree and climb to the top of the tree. Click the spinning thing and a strange alien appears. Wait a few seconds until he goes to the bathroom and then click again the spinning thing. After you felt down, drag the spinning thing to the rear of the ship. Click the engine of the elevator and drag it on the front part of the ship.

3. Click the snail with a tuba to get eaten. Switch the red and green cables and then click the little character. Click the tape player and then click the switch on the right. Grab the piece of tape that pops out and attach it to the center of the right circle. Grab the feather in the basket and drag it to the top of the nail. Drag the nail on the head of the snake and then click the switch of the tape recorder. Once back outside, drag the feather in the fire. Click the right flower and then click on the tuba snail. Drag the fishing pole towards the character and then drag the light bulb to the end of the fishing pole.

4. Click the right bottom hole and then click the top right one. Click the spoon from the nest. Drag the two razor blades on the left part of the handle of the spoon. Drag the dish antenna in the spoon. Drag the ruler right just left to the dish antenna. Drag the nail/screw on the ruler to attach it. You made a sort of airplane. Click the little character to use it and go back home. Congrats!

Sooo, I'm at the part where there's a giant nest with like a ruler, a peg, a spoon and stuff in it, and i've gotten everything in place except for the ruler and the peg, I have no idea what to do, help?
