Weekday Escape

JayEscape from Test Kitchen 2 is a standard escape-the-room game from 58works of Japan, somewhat reminiscent of a game from the gotMail folks. Players must collect bottles and mixers, Test Kitchen 2pieces of a map, safe combinations, and the like to find a solution and escape from what appears to be a small cozy restaurant. You will have to be creative in your problem solving, and be willing to explore without aid of help text, as this one is entirely in Japanese. That shouldn't be much of a problem, though, especially if you're an experienced Weekday Escaper. Please make use of the comments to help those of us who need a walkthrough to nudge us when we're stuck.

Pixel hunting is present, but bearable. Alcohol abounds, so let's keep the kids away from this one.

Oh goody, another pixel hunting escape game.

Reply

anybody know how to get the bottle out oof the box case upstairs?

Reply

So I have

A knife, 2 bottles of alcohol, a green bottle, part of a letter that came out of the ice, and a glass of tomatoe juice

and now I am stuck.

Reply

Moving along at a pretty good pace, but I just got stuck.

Reply

One more thing

the green bottle is used on the beer tape and you add some beer to your glass of tomatoe juice for some reason

Reply

I am missing what appears to be

a squarish bottle of alcohol. I found a round one and was able to insert it into a slot near the stove in the kitchen.

Reply

Poof. Power of posting. I now have what looks like

two pieces of a map

Reply

I think being scottish and working in a bar actually helped me for the last puzzle in this one :D

Shaun

look to the left of the cupboard you found the hammer in

Glomer

look around the bar

Reply

glomer, where did you find the round one?

Reply

I'm stuck too.

You can get a wineglass as well. Zoom in on the cupboards on the floor opposite the stove and click a little to the left of them. You can fill the glass with tomato juice and beer from the tap.

Reply

I have

three pieces of the map, a chef's knife, and a bottle of single malt Scotch whisky. Used up the key, the sledgehammer, the shaker, the tomato juice, the keg canister, the glass, and the block of ice. The other bottle of alcohol is in a receptacle in the kitchen, but I can't find the thing that will fit in the square space next to it.

No idea what to do with the burners on the stove that actually light, or with the faucet and running water.

Reply

found a code

look at the posters, one has a number

fits the cupboard behind some boxes

Reply

Update:

found what appears to be a CO2 tank and hooked it up under the bar. Placed tomato juice under tapper on the bar and filled it up the rest of the way.

Found a space next to the cupboard on the floor in the kitchen that has a large pot in it.

No idea yet what to do with the map sections.

Reply

Glomer, where is the round bottle for the puzzle thing in the kitchen?

Reply

OK, thanks for the pointer, bleh. I found

the square bottle and finished the map. I put my one bottle in the right place.

I appear to need

two more bottles, though, and I have no idea where they might be.

Reply

round bottle:

I believe it was hidden in the space behind the boxes under the stairs. You need to find a code to open the door.

Reply

I am in the exact same place as Dan. I havent used the

Red flute with tomato-beer

yet, though...

The puzzle itself seems pretty straightforward, but I am missing piece and bottle #4...

Reply

Got the code needed for the round bottle, now I have three pieces of the map and am missing the top left corner, any tips?

Reply

The round bottle is

in the cupboard that needs the code

Reply

I could use some hints as to where to find more sections of the

map

Reply

Poof. Found one more. Been clicking there for ages and it finally worked. Now have a

cocktail shaker and another piece of the map. I now have three map pieces.

Reply

About the square bottle.

Look for the square bottle along the front of the bar.

Now I have three pieces of the map, but I still don't know what to do with the knife of the glass of tomato juice.

Reply

Found another bottle. I have now used two bottles and I have two more in my inventory.

Reply

Wow! Just figured out what the knife is for!

Head up to the top of the second floor, stand looking down at the lower floor, then click towards the top of the window and you'll spot a red box on a cord. Cut it down!

Reply

There is a bottle between the wall and the bookshelf on the top floor

Reply

I am lost on the knife as well.

Reply

Map sections (in the order I got them):

#1:

In the ice block from the freezer. Use the hammer to smash the ice.

#2:

In the shaker in the left speaker upstairs. Open the shaker and extract the map piece.

#3:

Open the door on the upstairs wall. The box inside has five colored buttons. Press them in order

(see the five colored glasses on the shelf downstairs over the trombone)

and the box will open, revealing a white piece of paper with a red eye on it. Use the tomato juice and beer mix on the paper, and the third map piece will be revealed.

#4:

Put the round bottle from the locked cupboard under the stairs and the square bottle from under the front of the bar into the receptacles in the kitchen, the drawer underneath opens, revealing the fourth map piece.

Reply

Dang it. I have been pushing on

that door for hours and it wouldnt open. It just did. How annoying!

Thanks!

Reply

Looks like I need one last

bottle

Reply

Thanks for the hint tishy. Now...

How long does it take for the water to freeze?

Reply

A couple of big hints:
#1:

While upstairs and looking down at the bar, look up.

#2:

What is tomato juice mixed with beer called?

It's actually known by several names, but the one most relevant here is the "Red Eye".

Reply

Dan, or anyone, how do you open the door on the upstairs wall? I've been wracking my brain on this one.

Reply

You can fill the key mould with water from the tap. Don't what that is good for though

Reply

how did you open the door?

Reply

anyone know how to get into the

premium malts refrigerator?

Reply

That door upstairs....just did it!!

Push on the lower right corner

Reply

To open the door upstairs just click immediately to the right of it (in the shadow)

Reply

Freeze Time for Key.

i put the ice/water key it the fridge, ran upstairs to look around again and by the time i got back downstairs it had frozen.

Also, do anyone who hasn't found it yet.... check the burners of the stove. There's something there...

I've got two empty spots left on my inventory at the bottom right. Anyone find the last missing parts?

Reply

Upstairs wall cupboard:

As far as I know, you just click on the right side of the door, away from the handle. I don't recall doing anything special to unlock it.

Premium malts fridge:

Using tishy's hint above, get the red box down from the ceiling. It is a key mold. Go to the sink, fill the mold with water, and put it in the top of the freezer next to the sink. Go click around for a few minutes. Come back and retrieve the mold. Click on the key in the mold, and you get a key made of ice. Use the ice key on the lock of the premium malts fridge, and there is a bottle of Bowmore in the back on the right side.

Reply

Ahh, a quick trip to

Google Maps

and I'm out. Decent game, but man do I hate pixel hunting.

Reply

Oh man, I just got out. The hint about the Red Eye was all I needed I guess, so thanks Geer.

Reply

yah!! Out.

Reply

Pretty good game.

Reply

It's really an undercelebrated perk of jayisgames that so many of us now know how to read "that does nothing" in so many languages.

Reply

Oops, I had mixed up some locations in my map sections post. Sorry.

The shaker is in the upstairs speaker, not in the stove.

Great to see another escape game with a save game function. I'd make it compulsory for any game of this genre :)

Reply
houseworkisevil November 19, 2008 7:36 PM

I'm not done yet, but I'm liking it so far. I PARTICULARLY like the SAVE feature, so I can wale away at it a bit, go and deal with something less important than an escape room game for a while, and then wale away some more!

Reply

I've played this game before except the lights weren't off when I started the game. That's the only difference.

Reply

Am i right in thinking you can mix the tomato juice with beer???

YEUCH!

Although to be honest I haven't tried it and the weekend is almost upon us...

Shall keep you updated.

Reply

ah, very satisfying. Reminds me of the gotmail game that was all about making a cocktail of some sort... though I needed the spoiler for

how to use the knife

. I was close to finishing and I think that would have taken enough random clicking to really annoy me.

Reply

Well, can a game be anything less than excellent with so much single malt in it? :D

(Strange that, even though the game's Japanese and Suntory appears in it there's no mentioning Suntory whisky which I found surprisingly good quality :D)

Reply

Protect the children from -alcohol- now?

Their parents drink, their parents were probably drunk when they conceived the child - And denying them access or information regarding the most mild of senseless intoxicants will only make it more alluring, no?

Littleghost November 20, 2008 2:57 PM

Am I the only one having trouble getting the ashtray?? I've clicked everywhere on the screen.

Reply
Littleghost November 20, 2008 3:14 PM

Nevermind. I'm a dope, I used it long ago and just didn't recognize it as an ashtray.

Reply

Thank you for the walkthrough. Otherwise I would never have found

the string hanging from the ceiling with the mold attached

Even with the help, it took me awhile to find it.

Also, I'm stilllll waiting for my water to freeze. Guess virtual water takes as long as real water to freeze.

Reply

How long does it take for the *bleeping* ice to freeze? I'm stuck waiting for that to happen!

Reply

Going upstairs makes things freeze quickly.

Reply

Just my sort of game - one full of whisky :)

Reply

I can't find the

green bottle. I searched near the plant on the second level, but there is not anything there!

Reply
Monkeyrilla December 24, 2008 1:44 PM

This is one of the few escape games I have done without a walkthrough. Pretty fun

Reply

Urgh, i cannot find the white square bottle!! where abouts under the bar is it??

Reply

Spoiler error?

There's no green bottle by the plant upstairs. Maybe they updated the game since the spoiler was written?

Reply

Need help for #18,after you back up,there isn't any door. Please give a screenshot of where your supposed to be.

Reply

-.- never mind. just figured it out. delete that and this comment. you should've put click the right cabinet.

Do I need to speak Japanese to play this game? I dont have any language packs installed.

Reply

How to make my definition of an annoying game:

--have all the game text, which might have given me some clue what's going on, in a language I can't read.

--make the navigation awkward and unnatural, making me feel that I'm being skipped over spots, blocked from places that in reality I could walk to, and can't reach others because of the third flaw:

--put every item (and some small scenes) in some unintuitive place reachable only by selecting the exact pixel.

I must have played every other escape game on the site, to be so determined about actually finishing this one. Translations please!!!

Reply

Cheers for the walkthrough! Would've never gotten out without it!
