joyeTrigger KnightIt's amazing what just one button can do. In Trigger Knight by MINTSPHERE, your handy dandy mouse button is all you need to upgrade a cute little knight and buy her more lifespan as she charges relentlessly towards the right side of the screen in this experimental action RPG.

The game is mostly luck, since there's pretty much no skill needed to click on the various upgrades that come by. Your only real intellectual task is deciding whether to buy or not, using the "upcoming" feed at the upper right to hedge your bets. But there's a certain mindless yet addictive joy to watching your heroine wallop a wolf, and the charging soundtrack really pumps up the adrenaline as you bite your nails hoping for a lifespan upgrade to come along before your poor character keels over. A nice proof-of-concept that's fun for a coffee break and hopefully a precursor to a more fleshed-out version later.

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

Having completed every challenge, I have a few tips for anyone wanting to do the same.

Slay a Dragon

Dragons start appearing from Day 8 onwards, though I don't usually encounter one until about Day 10. The easiest way to defeat one is to use the Divine Edge item. If you don't have that, then you'd better have an Elixer. Use it at the last second and you'll have a chance at slaying the beast.

Stashed 3000 Gold

Use the Gold Voucher item to increase the amount of gold you win from a battle. This will help you get closer to 3000.

Reach Day 10

Can't really give you any tips beyond "survive", but I picked up some tricks to make that easier.

Get All Collection

Basically, upgrade your weapon and armor to max. Best way to do this? Gold Vouchers and not dying.

Perform 70000+ Damage

I'm not sure if this is 70K total throughout the game, or 70K in one hit. I think it's the latter, though. The Divine Edge will make it much easier to do this. Use it on a Dragon to kill two birds with one stone.

Survival tips

1) Only use the Soul Shrine when you are REALLY LOW on Life Span. If you have a good sense of timing, wait until the last second to use it to maximize duration of your new Life Span by making it start later.

2) Keep an eye on your health, but also watch how much damage you take from each hit. Use an Elixer if your health gets really low or if you don't have enough to survive another hit.

3) Upgrading your Armor will not only increase your maximum health, but refill it entirely. It's best to hit the Armorsmith after a battle when you're low on health.

4) I cannot stress the usefulness of Gold Vouchers enough.

5) After Day 8, NEVER go into a battle without an item. This is when Dragons start appearing.

For those of you who want more info on your enemies, here is a quick reference guide:

Goblin (might be an Orc):

  • Goblins are the most balanced normal enemy in the game, with average attack and average health. Green-skinned and nasty, they do damage about equal to you and yield the lowest amount of money.

  • Goblins start appearing Day 1.

Stone Soldier:

  • Stone Soldiers are the tank enemy of the game, hulking giants with solid defenses. They have the lowest attack in the game but the second highest health and can stall you from reaching a Soulshrine if you are not careful.

  • Stone Soldiers yield the second highest amount of money and start appearing Day 1.

Wolf:

  • Wolves... the scourge of every adventurer. These savage beasts boast the second highest attack in the game but have mediocre health. Many a player has just barely slain a Dragon, only to be defeated by a "lowly" wolf.

  • Wolves yield the second lowest amount of money and start appearing Day 1.

Dragon:

  • Dragons are the strongest, deadliest enemy in the game, a status that befits such a legendary creature. With the highest attack and health in the game, this mythical titan is a force to be reckoned with, and to be caught unprepared is almost certain death.

  • Dragons yield the highest amount of money but do not start appearing until Day 8, plenty of time to get ready (if your luck holds out...)

Note: You will not really notice a difference in the money yield rates until about Day 5.

I hope this helps!

This game would be a lot more replayable if you could earn some sort of permanent bonuses for making it to certain distances. Be it more starting gold, better starting weapons, or whatever.

Perhaps the option to carry more than one item at once (i.e. elixir and Divine edge) It is pretty much useless to spend an elixir during a dragon fight; even starting with full health and using it at the last possible moment, I still died 9/10 times. Pretty much gotta have the 10,000x Diving Edge. But the elixir is much better insurance against a bad-luck string of regular fights without any armor boosts. Since the situations in which they are useful are mutually exclusive, so you could still keep it down to one-button click.

Also noteworthy, I encountered a dragon fight at day 9, I had just passed up a Divine Edge figuring I didn't need one for a few days yet, really bad luck!

This game is novel in terms of what you play: instead of, for example, having an assistant / sidekick, you are a sort of personal assistant / guardian angel, keeping tabs on her money, reading signs, passing her potions.

I love the music! It's so invigorating and perfectly suits the game!
