The Vault

DoraThere's something... otherworldly about this week's Vault. We're celebrating some of our favourite sci-fi titles that embrace that alien-y, star-travel-y, blaster-y goodness in different ways. After all, there's more than one way to skin a slavering interstellar monstrosity from beyond the stars!

  • Cube ColossusCube Colossus - When you're looking to blow off some steam, there is no finer creation than the "bullet hell" shooter, and Lucedrine's frantic, break-neck gem of a title definitely delivers with all barrels firing. Not only does it look stellar with its detailed visuals, but it even comes with a dramatic sci-fi storyline that would have been right at home in an '80s Anime... maybe if they took Project A-ko and added in some more Gundam Wing. It's packed full of big bosses, upgrades, white-knuckle levels, and all the pyew-pyew-pyewing you need to make your day at least 20% cooler... and more bullet riddled.
  • MorningstarMorningstar - Red Herring Games delivered one of the most professional looking and instantly beloved point-and-click adventures on the site when they served up this slick title. You control Powell, who wakes up in the blasted remains of his spaceship after a fiery crash on an alien world. In order to save himself and his commanding officer, he has to strike out into the unknown. Thanks to some absolutely stunning design and jaw-dropping production values, Morningstar remains one of the most engrossing Flash adventures you'll ever play, and will show you just how high it set the bar for all comers.
  • Bermuda Triangle EscapeBermuda Triangle Escape - Pastel Games has been serving up some of the best escape games around for years now, and this 2009 title is easily one of their more intriguing offerings despite how short it is. You set out to investigate a downed airplane in the notorious Bermuda Triangle, and a little scuba diving reveals that an enormous alien artifact may have been the cause. It's an original concept and makes for a perfect setting for a little unreal exploration, complete with sine brain teasing that requires you to think outside the box. Rich with atmosphere and a few tricky puzzles, it still feels like it ends a little abruptly, but is a perfect size to enjoy an out of this world escape on a coffee break.

While we welcome any comments about this weekly feature here, we do ask that if you need any help with the individual games, please post your questions on that game's review page. Well, what are you waiting for? Get out there and rediscover some awesome!
