Pay for it outright, or go "free-to-slay", but the most surprising thing might be how UNobnoxious Castle Doombad's free version actually is.

Angry Birds Epic Rovio's Angry Birds go turn-based in this casual strategic RPG as you journey across islands trying to recover your eggs against challenging foes while finding new party members and classes, and crafting equipment. Though free-to-play for Android and iOS, a few frustrating mechanic choices and always-on requirements hamper the experience.

Dragon Coins Though hampered by a lot of grinding, Dragon Coins is still a fun, free, simple, and surprisingly addictive hybrid of Pokemon-style monster catching and battling... and one of those old coin pusher machines your granny likes to put pennies into in Vegas.

Demons vs Fairyland (Mobile) The adorable and addictive strategic tower defense hit is now available in delicious iOS flavour! You've kidnapped the kids of Fairyland, and now you must defend them until you can get them to your boss. With all new upgrades, abilities, levels, and an improved balance and UI, this is one mobile game that shines.

Dwarven Den You're just minding your own business--well, ransacking an ancient underground city to find the blue gems that once made it famous, but, you know. Doing your dwarfish job. Finding petrified citizens of the city wasn't in the job description, but once you do, everything is going to change! Puzzle your way through this great new mobile mining-puzzle game to find out more.

The Robbery The Robbery is a stylish mobile room escape game from Caluliber that isn't about escaping from rooms, towers, or even offices. Instead, you're a burglar out for some cash, cracking safes one by one using your puzzle solving skills. Use clues and a few inventory items in each level to get to the gold, then race against the clock (and the security lasers) to grab it all for yourself. Tasty, tasty loot!

North Wind: Trill of Consciousness North Wind: Trill of Consciousness by Henry Gosuen is a creative take on the platform exploration genre. You control the tiny hero named Dir who moves through a blocky world of spikes and obstacles and maze-like puzzles. Instead of scrolling levels that keep pace with the protagonist, though, you do all the swiping yourself from a stationary point of view. It's a bit like Office Rush, Rooms or Continuity, only with a decidedly sweeter metroidvania feel.

Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff Peter's town is destroyed, and it's totally not his fault! Blame the giant chicken. But whatever the reason, it's up to you to rebuild it, unlocking tons of characters, items, and hilarious animations along the way. Just keep one hand on your wallet, because this game has its eye on it.

Disco Zoo Ever wanted your own zoo but were concerned it didn't have enough swanky funk style? NimbleBit, the creators of Pocket Planes, along with Milkbag Games (featuring Matt Rix of Trainyard fame) know that feeling all too well. Disco Zoo is a casual puzzle and simulation game that combines simple logic diversions with too-cute visuals that's perfect for mobile devices. Pick up and play, put it down and party.

Treasure Maps Yarr, me hearties, it's time for a game about pirates! The pirates of Treasure Maps are a smart and logical sort, and they love puzzles and treasure. Help them find the buried treasure in this logic game that mixes sudoku and picross. With more than 350 levels, it's challenging to play and fulfilling to solve.

Farm Heroes Saga The makers of Candy Crush Saga serve up another dangerously addictive free match-3 arcade game for iOS and Android with a farming theme and power-ups galore. Though gorgeous, charming, and casually fun, the same old microtransaction and timer problems will hobble the experience for some.

Cut the Rope 2 Om Nom is back, and his candies have been scattered across the globe! Luckily, he can get by with a little help from his friends in this gorgeous sequel to one of the iOS's most beloved physics puzzles. Colossatron: Massive World Threat It's Colossatron: Massive World Threat! The creators of Jetpack Joyride have unleashed a mechanical serpent from space on the planet, allowing it to snake its way from city to city as it destroys everything in its path. The best part is you get to participate in said destruction, all by grabbing floating power core segments and attaching them to your machine. It's crazy amounts of fun, but making an efficient robot of chaos will require a little more than wanton color matching.

Doctor Who: Legacy It's not the Doctor Who game you may have been hoping for, but this free match-3 RPG for iOS and Android offers a ton of unlockable characters and battles with enemies from the show. With gorgeous artwork, simple and addictive gameplay, and a lack of the usual free-to-play frustrations, Doctor Who: Legacy is still enjoyable if not quite what you'd expect.

Rovio sure thinks so, and with Angry Birds Go!, the feathered flappers take to the hills in a wild racing game with karts a-plenty. It's got power-ups, a variety of modes, multiple vehicles to choose from and customize, and yeah, piggies to torment. All in the name of a first prize cake!

Papa Pear Saga Papa Pear Saga is a dangerously addictive combination of Peggle and Candy Crush Saga. Created by King, Papa Pear Saga was previously a Facebook game but has made the leap to mobile devices. The iOS/Android release will absolutely ruin your productivity, as all you'll want to do is play level after level of this pachinko-style arcade game.

Star Wars: Tiny Death Star Star Wars: Tiny Death Star is what happens when LucasArts and NimbleBit conspire to steal all of your time. A casual simulation game at its core, Tiny Death Star is essentially a Star Wars-themed Tiny Tower with a handful of new features and some tweaks to the basic gameplay. Despite having an overzealous in-app purchasing system (don't panic when you see the prices in there), it still manages to hold onto that "just one more minute" style of gameplay that will occupy your brain even when you're not playing the game.

Stack Rabbit From Disney Mobile, the team behind Where's My Water?, Where's My Mickey? and related spin-offs, Stack Rabbit is an isometric puzzle game that's so adorable it just might melt your face off. Playing as a blocky rabbit searching for food, your job is to steal veggies while avoiding the not-so-watchful eye of Max the guard dog. It's an extraordinarily simple premise that's executed with a lot of style and flair, just the way we like our mobile games!

Tiny Games Tiny Games is a collection of quirky diversions aimed at getting you or a bunch of people to do strange things. It uses situational questions and commands and suggests activities based on your location, mood, etc. Think of it as the ultimate collection of road trip games, expanded to cover most of the real world. The "games" aren't games in and of themselves, but you'll be surprised how much fun a competitive "I'm crushing your head" can be.

Angry Gran Run Angry Gran Run isn't your grandmother's endless running game. Even though it could star your grandmother, we're pretty sure most human beings aren't capable of running this far, this fast, or of leaping obstacles as high as our protagonist granny. Regardless, this third person arcade runner features all the unhinged action and coin collecting your heart desires. Just don't get too caught up tooling around with granny's crazy costume options.

Subway Surfers Subway Surfers is a third person endless running game similar to Temple Run. The inspector and his dog are prowling the subway tracks, but you and your friends are bent on getting your graffiti on the walls. The fuzz inevitably stumbles across your artwork, kicking off an epic endless running scenario where you slide between trains, glide across power lines, duck beneath road blocks and fly your hoverboard across the tracks.

Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign The creators of Puzzle Quest bring us this match-3, turn-based RPG spin on the Marvel universe, and despite some frustrating free-to-play aspects and a slow start, Dark Reign offers surprisingly funny writing, and more challenging, strategic gameplay than you might first expect.

Pocket Trains First we managed a skycraper in Tiny Tower. Then we tried our hands at air traffic control in Pocket Planes. Now NimbleBit is turning us into train magnates with their newest simulation game, Pocket Trains, and it's just as brilliant and well-balanced as any of their other games.

Quiz RPG: World of Mystic Wiz When Francis Bacon famously said that knowledge is power, he probably didn't mean that knowing trivia answers would grant you magical powers. But that's how things work in Quiz RPG: World of Mystic Wiz, a trivia game for Android that blends elements of roleplaying and card games. Control a group of five spirits in your various quests as an apprentice wizard, and turn your trivia answers into bolts of lightning or jets of water or fireballs. With over 15,000 questions in the pool, there's enough variety to last even the most hardcore of us quite a while. And there's a talking cat who mews if you poke her, so that alone makes it worth a look.

Where's My Water? 2 After half a dozen sequels and spin-offs, we still don't know where all that water has gone. We do know how to move it around, though, which is what Disney Mobile's brand new physics puzzle game is all about! Where's My Water? 2 brings Swampy, Allie and Cranky back for more dirt digging and ducky finding, adding an ocean of challenges, items and additions to this free to play sequel.

Buttons and Scissors Buttons and Scissors is a bright and simple puzzle game from KyWorks. It utilizes a straightforward design that's as simple as dragging lines across your screen. Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time has finally arrived. After a brief limited launch in Australia and New Zealand, PopCap and EA have unleashed the game in North America, closing the four year gap opened by the original Plants vs. Zombies. The sequel has some enormous expectations to live up to. Its predecessor won dozens of awards and has been praised as one of the most original and creative games in recent years. How do you follow something like that? By adding more plants, more zombies, and more levels. Oh, and by introducing tons of in-app purchases!

Greedy Grub Greedy Grub is a freemium town building game from Pixowl with gorgeous artwork and gameplay that's just left of the norm. It immediately captivates you with its tale of a cute orange grub falling out of a tree, and every character you meet afterwards is just as quirky and lovable. Layer on top of that an honestly entertaining collection-centric gameplay mechanic and you've got the perfect recipe for an addictive mobile game.

Bread Kittens Travel the world. Find exotic kittens. And put bread on their faces. Pokemon meets internet meme in this bizarrely endearing free iOS game, where adorable art and simple yet addictive gameplay war with some monetization issues.

Nimble Quest The latest release from Pocket Planes developer NimbleBit, Nimble Quest drops the simulation formula in favor of a good old fashioned arcade game. And we're not kidding when we say "old fashioned". Nimble Quest is essentially the 40 year old game of Snake with a layer of RPG elements and free to play features draped on top. It's a very different experience than, say, Tiny Tower, but it's got that same level of simple charm we've come to expect from the studio.

Super Stickman Golf 2 Golf is, well, not traditionally the most exciting sport in the world. The clothing alone should tip you off to that fact. That's why everyone should play Super Stickman Golf 2 instead. The basic goal is the same: knock a little white ball into a hole somewhere on the green. Getting from start to finish means traversing some of the most impossibly mixed-up terrain ever seen. Laser beams, teleporters and sticky surfaces should have been part of golf from day one.

Dojo Danger Dojo Danger from Kihon is the kind of game you can't wait to be good at. One part strategy and one part arcade physics, the setup is a bit reminiscent of the SQUIDS series, putting you in control of a group of heroes who can be shot around the screen in order to defeat the bad guys. This time around, though, you get to play as a band of ninjas ridding the world of a zombie invasion by smacking into them and knocking them into spike traps!

Block Fortress Block Fortress is Minecraft meets tower defense meets first person shooter, all squeezed down into a mobile game. Build a base in the middle of a blocky wilderness, place turrets and towers and power supplies to fortify your position, then send in the waves of enemies. Once combat begins, you shift from building mode to combat mode, taking a gun into battle and watching over your fort by blasting enemies by hand. It's incredibly exciting and also deeply rooted in upgrades and tactics, making it the sort of game you can play for months without truly mastering.

Adrift Adrift is a stylish logic puzzle game from Tack Mobile. It follows the gameplay outline of classic browser games such as Hyper Frame and 3D Logic II, eliminating the rotating cube in favor of a fixed isometric viewpoint, simple touch controls, and a sweet-as-candy visual presentation. Don't think that just because you only have three sides of a cube to worry about that things are going to be any easier to solve, however!

Cubed Rally Redline It's not often one can look at a racing game and say "Wow, that appeals to a wide audience!" Cubed Rally Redline is one of those games. Created by No Can Win, this pixel art racing game has more in common with mission-based arcade games like Jetpack Joyride than your average racer. Hit the track, jump a few ponds, dodge some cows, and see how far you can go without crashing.

Pixel People It's the end of the world, but turn that frown upside down, because the apocalypse has never been so cheerful! In this free iOS simulation, you're in charge of rebuilding a utopian society in space... by yourself. Fortunately for you, you've got an endless supply of incoming clones, and a bunch of genetic material to mix and match to create more jobs and more buildings. A vibrant pixel style and cheeky sense of humour make this one light, addictive casual sim that's hard to put down.

Puzzle and Dragons Puzzle and Dragons is a fusion of puzzle gameplay and Pokemon-like monster hunting, training and collecting. From the safety of your mobile device you get to manage a team of tiny elemental creatures who can be fused and evolved to become more powerful fighting machines. When your crew is ready to roll, head into the dungeon where you'll battle enemies by swapping gems on a Bejeweled-like grid. It's an almost perfect blend of puzzle matching and role playing, streamlined to be casual friendly without removing too much of the team management bits we love to obsess over.

Temple Run 2 Imangi Studios resurrects their smash-hit iOS arcade game with this bigger, badder, and altogether better installment that keeps all the action you loved and buffs it up with an improved look and more. Once again, you've stolen a forbidden idol from a dangerous temple and have to run for your life, but with new locales, obstacles, power-ups, abilities, and much more in your way (including one very big, very angry monkey) you have your work cut out for you.

Growtopia The world of creativity games continues to expand, but this time it's on mobile devices! Growtopia, a combined effort from Robot Wants developer Hamumu and Dungeon Scroll creator Robinson Technologies, strips out a lot of the complexities often found in creativity games like Minecraft or Terraria, allowing you to build and decorate your own little world that goes wherever your mobile device goes. Bored on the bus? Growtopia! Don't wanna listen to your boss droning on? Growtopia! Entire evening free? GROWTOPIA!

Battle Cats Kitty minions, go forth and fight! In Battle Cats from PONOS, you control legions of tall cats, chubby cats, flying cats, cows (which aren't cats), and plenty of other cute warriors whose sole purpose is to defend their base from legions of tiny stickmen, hippos, snakes and other bad guys. It's a familiar combat-oriented defense set-up we've seen before, but there's so much lovable style poured into this game, you can't help but to play until the wee hours of the morning, pitting cartoon cat against cartoon cat.

You indirectly control a bouncing orange critter by creating temporary trampoline platforms on the screen, guiding the little guy through some crazy stages filled with bumpers, tunnels, portals and more. Pangolin is almost like a game of vertical mini-golf. Except not. And it's way better!
