Escape From the Fishing Community Island

Starchild One fish, two fish, red fish... Demon fish? Yes, in the survival game, Escape From the Fishing Community Island, bloodthirsty barracudas and murderous marlins have decided to rebel against the fishing village where you happen to be taking your holiday. All the villagers have run off in their boats, leaving you to fend for yourself and try to find an escape. You'll move with [WASD] or [arrow] keys, shoot and search houses with the mouse; your goal is to look for a boat, which is your only ticket off the island, while staying away from the hellfish.

Escape From the Fishing Community Island At the start, you get to choose two out of three weapons (harpoon, hooks or net), the size of the island and the difficulty mode. You are then dropped in the middle of the place with a map and the fish of all shapes and sizes swarming around. Before locating the boat, you have to find some fuel, the boat keys and your wife, which means that rifling through houses is necessary. The villagers have left all sorts of goodies behind, from health-restoring pigs' legs to small children who can help repair your net. Any kind of help is certainly welcome, since it's impossible to finish the game without frequent clashes with vicious fish, some of which are three times your size, so it's best to choose your battles carefully. Easily the best aspect of the game is the atmosphere, a minimalistic nightmare of dead trees and eerie pale fish intent on murder. There's something profoundly disturbing about fish behaving so freely on dry land, even more so when you're surrounded by them on a small island. This game knows claustrophobia and uses it well, mixing it with a bleak environment and creating a chilling effect which will make you look at fish a little differently.

This is an excellent find! Original mechanics that work well and make clear sense quickly, very moody but simple, with tension but not platformer-panicked.
I would have voted and commented sooner, but I got too caught up in the game!

That. Was. AWESOME.

So good it may need its own acronym. EFFCI. Best fishing game ever. It's like a shiny modernist design and implied carnage and survival horror and escort mission AND fishing game. You have not lived until you and all your villagers survive a feeding frenzy.

I'm dense today, so it took me a bit to figure out that weapons were right and left mouse click (also, arrow keys work if you're not into WASD). And also that points were points for the weapons.

Now have the urge to pop open some classic Heart. I bet you gonna ambush me...

(...ever.)

Oh, forgot one irritating thing. Searching doesn't activate until you (not your party) goes near the activating [?] square. Especially frustrating when the search area is so huge, and you're trying to avoid that piscine horror in the back corner.

(And avoidance game.)

Yikes, I searched that.

Nightmaresssss. Awesome. I love it.

Oops, I keep pressing Submit before the thought finishes.

This also harkens to the old classic Amorphous+ except with a different mechanic and a grind-ier objective. The need for timing and 360 degree melee is the same, though.

Tried it once on medium and large. By the end of the game in large, I had 7 villagers set in pulling the harpoon, one on heal, and most of my upgrades went to harpoon strength and range. The result, everything else was fish bait and only large schools of giants could deter me.

Great game! Love the simple graphics.

Fun, somewhat tense game. My only problem is that I've noticed a bug where the walls of adjacent cabins can seem to overlap, resulting in invisible barricades keeping you from reaching search points.

This is a great game! But my spouse is kind of a wimp... I mean, I'm out there rescuing villagers and he's just hiding in a cabin? Why'd I even marry that guy? ;)
