FPS-Man

simian.interface

DoraTom Davies wants to prove that you can make anything terrifying just by changing your perspective with the incredibly moody FPS-Man, a simple yet clever twist on one very old classic. Use the [WASD] keys to navigate through the halls, munching down dots using the minimap to navigate, but beware... you're not alone. It really is amazing how just putting the game into a first-person perspective and some masterfully chosen audio has turned the cheery arcade experience we all know and love into something dripping with such sinister atmosphere... especially since it's still the same game. The best horror is the kind that makes you look at things you thought you knew in entirely different ways, and at that FPS-Man definitely succeeds even if it lacks any real bells and whistles or innovation beyond its initial gimmick to really keep you playing. A sly, smart concept executed very well, FPS-Man is a wonderful bit of creative thinking that proves how you look at things makes all the difference in the world.

I never realized just how horrifying it must be to be Pac-Man.

Oh, this is awesome. The Teenager and I were having a blast with this one.

I can't believe Pac-man just gave me chills. What kind of sorcery is this???

Am I the only one that got panic attacks playing the original pac-man? It was never a "cheery arcade experience" for me, haha.

Good game, I found out as long as they don't see you can follow behind the ghost.

This is such a great take on Pac-man. I wish the ghosts shed just a little more light, I keep coming around corners and dying instantly. Also having them sneak up behind me. :/

Apparently, I need a plugin to play this game, and my computer has no idea what that plugin might be. Anyone else having this issue?

Larpex, you most likely need Unity, a nice alternative to Flash.

Yes, Lany is correct, it's a Unity game. Click on the word "Unity" in the review header to be taken to the official site where you can get the plugin.

That was creeepy... Has anyone gotten past level one, or am I just really bad?

This game is creepy as all get-out.

Ghost avoidance tip:

Wear headphones, if you're not already. The ghosts give off a faint hum-like sound that will warn you if you're getting close. After a while you can judge the stereo perspective and move away from the sound.

No onedernerd you do not suck. The game even at level is not easy.

Hmmm...shouldn't this be FP-Man, not FPS-Man? Or do you get a weapon of some sort with the Power Pellets?

This is really great.
Its a pity that you can't invert the mouse though.

@lavalanche

Invert mouse is in the menu, bring it up with the Escape key (a lot of unity games will have some kind of Escape menu).

I can't get mouse look to work, might try later or with a different browser.

Thank you rc! : ) Great stuff

Holy crap, that's scary.
I'm glad I clicked to play before reading any more about it though, because those first few moments when I was trying to work out what was going on were genuinely disorienting - and then a ghost turned up and I suddenly realised what was going on and died all at the same moment.
That's magic.

Excellent variation on the original, and once again Unity flows beautifully.

I'd love the ability to change key bindings, though, for those of us trapped inside foreign keyboards (changing the kbd layout for my browser before reloading the page didn't work).

Nice pick, really.
