Redstar Fall

MarcusRedstar FallThe latest entry into the world of physics-based stacking / unstacking games is Redstar Fall a fun little gem from Zedarus at Armor Games. The goal of Redstar Fall is to, well, make the red star fall. To the bottom platform, that is, without letting it fall off into the bottomless chasm that waits below.

You'll find the red star atop any number of curious constructions, from toppling towers to crashing castles. Click on a block and it vanishes, allowing everything above to shift with the pull of gravity. After each click the cursor turns into a small timer that limits how fast you can remove blocks. This forces a more strategic approach to your game. No rapid-fire clicking for you.

You earn points based on the amount of time left and the number of clicks used to finish the level. Further into the game, you will run into invulnerable pieces and exploding pieces. These bring variety to the puzzles and, in the case of the explosions, a bit of visceral fun, as well.

Redstar Fall is similar to Totem Destroyer 2, of course, and even closer to a Unity-based game that we wrote about briefly last year called Tumbledrop. And while Redstar's graphics may not be quite as cute as Tumbledrop's, both use a very reliable, if not just a bit on the bouncy side, physics engine. With little exception, puzzles react the same way each time you play them through.

While Redstar Fall may be long on atmosphere and fun, what it is short on is levels. With only 20 to offer, the game can easily be completed in under an hour. And while you can revisit the levels in order to try and complete them with fewer clicks and quicker, ultimately the game comes up short. But while it lasts, Redstar Fall is a good time. Give it a try and see for yourself. Just make sure to watch that next step!

Well, that was easy.

it's great visually and physics wise but this is the fastest game i've ever finished. i'm awful at games but this was fine and relaxing.

20 mins for me to complete it - score 5726 I think.

Was it just me though or did the levels get easier towards the end?

I really liked this game, but it was a little too easy overall and way too short.

Another feature that would be nice, if they're going to give us such a short game, would be to have it keep track of all your scores through the levels and let you go back and replay them, trying to beat your best scores.

This may not mean anything to most of the people here... but did anyone else think that this game's title is making a subtle Chrono Trigger reference?

For those of you that are familiar with the game, in the US version, Azala the dinosaur king says

"damned red star, fall!"

before you fight him in his palace, essentially starting the entire plotline for the game...coincidence? Or is Chrono Trigger just unhealthily one of my favourite games of all time? ;)

Personally, I liked it as is. There is this tendency to make all games of the "let's make 5 playable levels, then the next 35 get so hard it's not fun anymore" variety.

I hope they make a sequel, and keep the playability at the level of this one. A great way to start my day!

It was easy, and perhaps it could be harder... but it's nice to have an easier game to play once in a while. And OverZealous, I know what you're talking about. I hate games where I struggle to reach level 10, and then I learn there are 90 more.

It's no Totem Destroyer 2, but it's okay.

Hey everybody.
Thanks for your comments and thanks to Marcus for his review. I'm really glad that most of you enjoyed this game. Currently, I'm working on additional levels for it, but still I'm not sure how they will be released: as an update for current version, or as a separate level-pack. Hope everything will be fine and it will be released in next 15 days.

I'm a long-time reader, first-time member. Thanks for maintaining such a wonderful site.

I am looking forward to the next few levels. I finished the game pretty quickly, but I had quite a bit of fun with it. In that way, the difficulty curve was well done. I feel like the music fits the atmosphere well, too.

The exploding blocks are very satisfying.

Austin, that was exactly the first thing I thought when I saw the title. o_o *points to username*

As for the game... Tumbledrop was my second thought about the game, and like Tumbledrop, it was really fun but far too short and easy. I thought the physics engine was tighter and more predictable than Tumbledrop's, though, which was definitely a plus. The levels are more interesting, too. I have to say, though... I liked the cute faces ;_; Even still, I'd say this one's an improvement. Nice job. =)

I love this game! I'm not into frenetic, beat the clock kind of games, so this one is super. Love watching how the blocks and star fall. Do more of this please!

Really nice except for one MAJOR problem---as each level became a bit more "complex," it ran MUCH slower. However, the timer seemed to run in about twice normal speed from the beginning (a level that took me about 31 real seconds to complete showed on the timer as 59 seconds and I received a score of 0). Since I play on a Mac, a game this simple should not run so slowly. The discrepancy is enough to make me quit now and likely not return.

I liked the atmosphere, but on the later levels it often felt like the intended 'clever' solution could be sidestepped by anarchic clicking...like a kid stomping on a laboriously prepared Mousetrap board to 'get' the mouse.

Great game, fun, and interesting. the only problem was that it went really fast and i wanted more lvls.

The Final Level code is

castle

i need a walkthrough for level nine i'm stuck

I made it through, but I gotta say that my solutions for some levels were far from elegant. It seemed the star landed on the platform by sheer luck.

I beat the game so here are the ansers...
