Brown Dyed Hotel
![]()
Brown Dyed Hotel is by a group of talented Swedish students from Campus Karlshamn of Blekinge Institute of Technology who have been busy building a few games lately. The first one that caught my eye is a collection of puzzles that is one part discovery, similar to no circles, and one part riddle game, as with not pron, and it will surely give your gray matter a workout.
Work your way through each level discovering the secrets that allow you to complete each task. If you get stuck, don't be afraid to reload the browser page to reset the current puzzle, if necessary. Since each puzzle is slightly different than the one before it, the experience feels fresh and unique, if a bit short. There are only about 12 levels from what I could see. Some notes on the site hint at more, though.
The entire site is full of mystery and secrets, so when you're done with the puzzle make sure you check out the other goings on at Brown Dyed Hotel. And for the more adventurous, look for their beautiful 3D physics game, Ether, which is actually a Half-Life 2 mod with a gorgeous stylized environment.
Cheers to Aini for the link! =)

Brown Dyed Hotel Hint Through
[walkthrough to follow]
This is my first time doing a hint-through, so if it's too obvious/not obvious enough, let me know.
(notice: the levels count down, hence the first page is level 11)
Prelude:
Just click! Sorry, no way to hint this one!

Hm, the url is sol.html... and those rotating circles are familiar... which one are we on..?
10.
The url says cirkles, but there's a gap. Gaps let things through.
9.
Bigger is heavier, and can push things down farther, but too heavy may push things down too far.
8.
A zero is kinda like an absence.
7.
If you strain to see what's in front of you, you might miss what's on the edges, because of the...
6.
Sometimes you just have to stab in the dark, if your weapon is something that works.
5.
Look at the walls, follow instructions, combine, reverse, follow instructions again.
4.
If something doesn't sound right, pull it out.
Touch what changes.
3.
An equation where the answer's not in Flash.
Url change.
2.
Drag and see what moves and what's revealed.
Url change.
1.
Two numbers on the wall, but there's no 26th hour.
Maybe if they're both minutes...
Feedback appreciated. :3

Walkthrough:
What to do and why! (This being a mystical mystery, I may have a wrong explanation, but this is what makes sense to me.)
Prelude:
beforethebeginning.html
Just click any part of the white thing.
11.
sol.html
It's a solar system from a strange angle. The outline planet is earth. Click!
10.
cirkles.html
You want the circle in the middle to fill up from the four directions. Moving the cursor causes the outer rings to spin, and clicking the circle causes a black dot to come from first north, then east, south, west. Figure out where to place the cursor to have both rings lined up with their gap facing the direction the next dot will come from. Click on the inner circle and quickly move the cursor back to where you just had it and hold it there. The black dot will come in and enter the circle. Repeat until all four are inside.
9.
thefix.html
Your goal is to "fix" the dots and squares so that everything is between the lines. Do this by hovering the cursor over a circle and then clicking on it when it gets big enough to weigh down the square. A higher square needs a bigger circle. If you mess up just refresh.
8.
5dots.html
You can see "10110" in the top left corner. The black circles are the 1s. So run your mouse over the black circles so that there's circle, gap, circle, circle, gap. /vision will appear below: click on it. (If you attempt vision.html, btw, you will get the easter egg "don't try to outdo yourself.) ^_^
7.
unvision.html
What's all that blurry stuff? A distraction, that's what. The lower right corner has four dots. Click on them until they spell BLUR. You get /machine. NOW you want to change the url to browndyedhotel.com/machine
6.
machine
If you click on "work" you get the message "ether might actually work". Click wildly in the black space to the right of the video until you find a text box (it's towards the top left). Quickly type ether and hit enter! May take a few tries because it resets whenever the video resets.
5.
corridor.html
Click on the left wall. Scroll left until you see "press b". Press the b key. All the words will disappear except "HEBROOD." Click. Go to the right wal. Scroll right until you see "push here", click on it. All words disappear except "ONAIPDNI". "ONAIPDNIHEBROOD" is "DOOR BEHIND PIANO" backwards. Click on the door at the end of the hall. Click on the door above the piano (not the ladder, but to the left of that).
4.
piano.html
If you click on the keys, the third from the left sounds broken. Pull on it. Four other keys will turn gray (three whites and a black). Click on the four gray keys.
3.
bigblacklake.html
Black equals white and a small circle equals a large circle. Change the url to smallwhitelake.html (Clicking and holding shows us a big black lake, but it's not necessary to the puzzle).
2.
smallwhitelake.html
The zooming triangle is a distraction. The lower-right triangular wedge can be dragged to the upper left to reveal the words clock.html
1.
clock.html
First, run your cursor repeatedly on and off the upper black strip until it disappears, revealing a clock. Now if you peer closely at the wall, you will see the numbers 8 and 26. (The 8 is in the upper left corner, the 26 is to the upper left of the upper left corner of the couch.) But 8:26 won't work. You have to pretend like both hands are minute hands and set them to 8 and 26. Then click on the doors that open.
0.
thebeginning.html
Done! Three strange videos. You can click on "the Hotel" to go back to the main page, or click on the 0 to go to...
12.
totheend.html
Another mystery..?
