Lateral thinking is not something I have always excelled at. Some would even say you could remove "lateral" from the previous sentence and it would remain just as true. I have noticed in fact a general decline in my reasoning prowess, and I'm choosing to blame the lack of sleep as a result of having a baby... 14 months ago.

To fight my general stupidification I've been flexing my lateral thinking muscles lately with Riddles of Riddles 100. These lateral thinking web games are the work of one apparently psychotic mind, Mark Lautman. They aren't as slick or polished as God Tower or Dumb: The Game, but what they lack in graphics they make up for in deviousness and variety. In the first 16 puzzles alone, I came across binary code, a crossword puzzle, a word scramble, and a quote from... nevermind, that would give the answer away.

When you discover the answer to a puzzle you enter it directly in the URL in your browser's address bar. I was originally a little annoyed at that, but the manual entry actually sets Mark up to hand you some pretty clever wordplay based on the address bar itself. There are also occasional hints in the source code of the document itself.

Shoot, I hope that didn't spoil anything. It's so hard reviewing these kinds of games without giving too much away.

#35:

green obviously being slytherin, look for a characteristic beginning with "c" that slytherin sought in students of his house. others are probably ambition (a.), purity of blood (p.) and ends justify the means (e.)

myself, i am totally stuck on level 52: the key is key, where you have to color the numbers. i ended up with some sort of symbol but have no idea whatsoever what to do with it.
can anyone help, please?

it's not a fabulous, fantastic gross of apples but a great gross. google how much that is and the rest should be no problem

level 49:

literally the first letters of the titles (that line at the very top of your browser, above th URL) of the riddles you did before. for 49 it would be "t" as in "this is a title"

you're basically on the right track with the government stuff. Think of who those people were and where they might come up in connection with numbers

I've been stuck on #33 for AGES! these posts havent been a real help. could somebody help me please?

i figured out that a great gross= 1728, then i divided it by 12, then that made 144 apples per person. but what do i do after? when i take off 13 then add thirteen, it equals 144, and its not the right answer! help =S

you almost got it right except for the last step. after you have deducted 13, you add a score, which is 20, not 13

so the solution is

no. 1: try google.
in case you have o idea what to do with your solution:

type it into that last part od the URL right before the .htm (sometimes you gotta fill in other parts, but in that case you will know). often there are also hints or comments in the source code that help you solve the riddle

38? uh, that's a tough one.

once you have solved the riddle in the source, you have to type the answer and hit enter before the countdown runs out. you definitely gotta work with ctrl c and ctrl v and, well, be really fast!

level 1:

there are just as many as, um, "normal" signs, i.e. 12. so you replace "getgoing" in the URL with either "12" or "twelve" followed by the ".htm". that's basically what you do in every level. replace the word before the .htm.

I know that the apostrophe is in the wrong place on "it's," but I can't seem to turn that into an answer. "its" doesn't work, "i'ts" doesn't work, "it's" doesn't work, "itis" doesn't work, "'" doesn't work.
