ReplicatorI am certainly not one to promote the use of Internet Explorer. There are far better browsers available, and that rat-bastard browser IE causes Web developers countless hours spent working around its ill-mannered behavior. However... I have to make an exception.

Brent Silby has created one of the coolest arcade games I have played in a very long time. Think retro-cool as in Galaga, Defender, Centipede and Robotron, and you'll be close to what the action is like in his latest game, Replicator. This game is 100% pure, turbo-charged DHTML! How cool is that?!

Control is with the keyboard using keys I,J,K,L for moving the ship, and Z,X for firing horizontally and vertically. Hold the Z or X button down for rapid fire. Destroy all the eggs before they hatch into bugs. Detroy all the bugs before they replicate more eggs.

This game is awesome retro-arcade gaming goodness. The ship moves responsively while firing in opposite directions simultaneously. The action really heats-up as the levels increasingly fill with enemies. The modern techno soundtrack and retro-style sound effects greatly enhance the arcade feel and overall polish of the game. Overall, Replicator captures the essence of arcade action fun and delivers it lovingly in a browser window.

The only down side is that it runs pokey in Firefox, and so Brent recommends IE—though Mac users can use the latest version of Safari. Since I'm a PC user myself, this game makes me want to boot-up IE, and that must tell you something. Click.

438625! Maybe I can double that soon.

Yes, good score, but did you get past wave 6? That one seems to be a problem for me. =/

Is level 6 the one that starts with only 3 eggs? If so, as soon as the level starts, move to the right firing vertically. Get rid of those 2 eggs then switch to horizontal fire and move to destroy the bug that hatched from the 3rd egg. Then quickly get the other eggs before they hatch. Get them by firing horizontally so that any bug that appears will move into your line of fire almost instantly.

That's the one. Thanks, Brent. =)

543925! I could only get that much before all the levels ended... =\

just got 900603 and beat the game
i found a great way to get high score and lots of life

i had 9 lives at the end
wooo!

neat, game was pretty fun. 27 levels total. Good thing is that your ship can touch the eggs, so you can easily fly inside a batch of them and start firing away.

ha, that game is pretty damn fun actually :) impressive that its DHTML only... thanks for the tip too, jeff

I got 189550, and made it to wave 11. I am using firefox on a 1ghz machine so that may be why. at times I found it to be unresponsive to the fire key(s). Over all a great retro game though. btw the three egg wave repeats itself later and he adds some bugs that requires 2 shots. I am shocked that it is DHTML. It is an inspiration to me to see what can be done.
