Worldgate 3: Exodus

KimberlyOctober 27, 1888. The Wyoming Territories. You wake up fairly certain you've been stolen from while you were knocked out, and decide your best course of action is to go after the thief. Which is, of course, exactly what he wants you to do. And thus the Worldgate series continues with Worldgate 3: Exodus from developer William Buchanan. The third installment of this puzzle-oriented point-and-click adventure game picks up right were the last one left off. This time, instead of leisurely continuing with your scientific pursuits, you are forced to do the bidding of a man named Victor.

Worldgate 3: ExodusAs before, you can personalize your navigation in the menu by choosing to use the [arrow] keys or the mouse to move, as well as toggle on or off navigational arrows. Interacting with the world is done with the mouse. Click on objects for a closer look, or to pick them up for your inventory. Further examine inventory items by hovering over their picture and clicking on the magnifying glass that appears in the bottom corner. You can combine objects by dragging them onto each other while in examination mode. There's also a save game feature, so you can come back to the game later when your brain stops hurting. Play with the sound on if you can, because there are sometimes audio cues to let you know when you've gotten something right.

Worldgate 3 lives up to the reputation of its predecessors. The art is as lovely and alien as before, and the worlds to explore ever mysterious. To make things even more exciting, some of your many questions will be answered as you delve into these new universes. The puzzles are quite challenging, as is to be expected from this series. There were one or two that seemed extra hard this time around, but nothing our crack team of walkthrough writers couldn't handle. The feeling of being trapped this time around gives this installment a new sense of urgency. If you don't find what Victor is looking for in the pocket universes, he will leave you to die. What a jerk! At the same time who wants to help a guy who is willing to lock you in a cell? Surely you'll find a way to escape instead, right? Pull out your thinking cap (you'll need it) and play the game, so you can hurry up and wait for part four.

    @Kimberly

That helped, but how do you know the order the digits should go in? Ex. 9.087 or 0.987?

    Reply

@ellingeng123 for the order of the numbers I was confused too. This is just a guess but...

Notice how some of the circles are inside of another colored circle. The black circles aren't, so start with black (9). Then inside of the black circle is red, so red is next (8) and so on, giving 9807.

    About the number puzzle:

There are 9 black small filled circles, so that's 9 units. Then there is a large black circle with 10 small red circles inside. That means one red circle is 1/10th of a black circle. Of those red circles, 8 are filled, so that means 0.8 units. Rinse and repeat.

I definitely did not understand the control panel, but it makes sense now it's been explained. :)

A bit of constructive criticism for the sequence puzzle? I think I have an idea of why it's so difficult for people, and maybe I can suggest how to improve it. I hope I'm doing this spoiler thing right!

I think the big issue with that puzzle is that the nine black dots are shown in a different format from the rest of the numbers, thus making them look like they're not a part of the same puzzle. I spent several minutes flailing over that one, because I couldn't even figure out if the nine black dots were even a part of the solution because they looked so different. If they were done in the same groupings-of-ten-with-dots-colored-in-to-represent-numbers style as the rest of the solution, it would make a LOT more sense. Plus, it would make the fact that there's no circle surrounding them more obvious--given that all the other dots had circles around them, I was trying to figure out if they were keys for multiple different puzzles or something! I don't think the cube puzzle is as bad, especially since you get entries in your journal for every weight (which makes it obvious that the colors will be important), but I think a simple change of conveyance would got a long way to making that puzzle more intuitive. :D

A bit of the ending doesn't quite make sense. I hit a point in the game where I have the D-Cores, the Exodus key, and I'm back at my home dig site. So why am I going to go back and hand the D-Cores over? I'm already free!

Also, a minor bug. At one point I had more items in inventory than could be displayed on the bar, and I couldn't find any way to scroll the inventory to see the hidden items.

    Still, great game!

Now I'm puzzling over the secret ending.

Found this game series after I played the first one. Numbers 2 and 3 are very frustrating to me. The second one had little glitches like the power station where you had to use the three crystals. I had to use a walk through. Sometimes they worked and sometimes they didn't. Also the deep space atmosphere was really neat at first but after awhile I felt dizzy. So I abandoned it.

Number three has a full blown glitch.

This is from the walk through here:

Insert the GRAVITY REVERSAL PAD into the lower slot. The ball will float up.

Immediately remove the pad and place it into the other slot in the center of the square. You have to do this very quickly.

You'll know you did it right when the ball floats up and lands by the button.

I can place the gravity reversal pad in the first slot but when the ball rises and I click on the pad, the pad returns to inventory, when I click on it in the inventory, my mouse cursor disappears along with the pad and does not return until the ball returns to the bottom.

My guess is that after all these years, the browsers may be a factor. I am using Firefox.
