Weekday Escape

DoraDo you wanna play escape gaaaaaaaaaaaames? Two or three will doooooooooo. We'll throw away the key and lock the door, solve puzzles forevermore, search your heart you know it's truuuuuuuuuuuue. Do you wanna play escape gaaaaaaaames? I really love those freakin' escape gaaaaaaaaaames. And... I... uh... have never actually seen this movie or heard this song, so let's get down to business, shall we? This week! Vitamin Hana walks a lonely road, the only one that you will ever know. Nagamochi Games may be about to make one of your childhood fantasies come true. And Yonashi finds it quite easy being green, thank you very much.

Robo AssemblyRobo Assembly - Let's be honest... whether you were a dinosaur kid or a unicorn kid or a dragon kid, can't we all come together and agree your own giant robot is still pretty cool? Nagamochi Games thinks so too, but before you can use this one, you'll need to find five pieces to put it together... and solve a passel of puzzles along the way, naturally. Now remember, giant robot ownership is serious. I want you to take care of it. Clean up after its own spills. Play with it and defend the city from guys in giant rubber costumes with it. Then we'll talk about that puppy.

Almost DesertAlmost Desert - Vitamin Hana hasn't thrown up any walls this time, but sometimes a little sun and a long, lonely road is just as ensnaring as a locked room. Or at least, that's what country music tells me. I don't know. I don't have the denim for it. Stranded with you are a bunch of crates and luggage with some tricky locks, including one with some letters and colours you may have trouble picking out regardless of whether you have issues with colour blindness, unfortunately. Look on the bright side. If you get stuck forever, I hear there's a lovely little town out there in the desert somewhere with some great public radio. Just don't go into, think about, or look at the Dog Park.

SpringSpring - Yonashi has taken things the traditional locked room way this time around, but that doesn't mean they aren't still a little... weird. There's a spiky thing on the floor. Your frog's terrarium has some bizarre lock on it, perhaps because what's in the drawers indicates some weird obsession. And there's not even anywhere to sit! What there are, however, are some seriously strange puzzles and locks that need your attention, though just getting started might require a little more thought and experimentation with your surroundings.

We love escape games, and our readers love talking about them and sharing hints! How about you? Let us know what you think, ask for clues, or help out other players in the comments below.

A hint for those struggling on the shapes game in Robo Assembly:

The clue is perhaps better translated as "stacking order" rather than "order from the top"

Reply

More hints for Robo Assembly:

1. The shape things are "from the top", meaning stack top to bottom. I don't know if this makes sense. The first one to get is the circle.

The puzzles seem to unlock the green tubes and various other things you can click on but couldn't do anything with before.

Did those parts remind anyone of

the final tipping robot challenge on that gameshow, "Vs Arashi"? Do you get that show in your country? We've been lucky enough to get that and "If You Are the One" from Japan and China respectively, through SBS (the Australian SBS)

For Almost Desert

Did anybody call one of the other numbers that wasn't the taxi? Did you get a different ending?

Something I felt really dumb for not noticing and not being able to fully click on until I watched a walkthrough:

The binoculars work on certain spots on 3 sets of hills.

The flags on those hills are black and white, but the hills are certain colours

@Catherine,

No, I tried. The Almost Desert has only one ending.

Spring has me stumped. Things I've got:

Three marbles (green, white, pink)
A white piece with "RING" written on it

Things I've noticed:

The marbles fit in the device near the window, but I need one more, not to mention a clue for the order.

I've seen where the "RING" piece goes, but there's no way I can reach it.

The "spiky thing on the floor" looks like a young plant, but I can't do anything with it. The cursor doesn't even change when I mouse over it.

Things I haven't opened:

The green door
The four-white-pillars drawer (I think the combination has something to do with the drawers and cabinets themselves, but I haven't interpreted them in any way that works.)
The coat rack (screwed in place, and I don't have a driver)
The white cabinet that's locked with a key

Can anyone suggest any next steps for me?

Hint for Spring:

There is no screwdriver. Brute force it.

I know bamboo is invasive, but Yonashi really takes it to new levels. :)

FYI, Spring has

2 endings

in the happy coin kind of way

Okay, I'm where Friar was, I can't get the youngest to oldest clue. Any hints?

Reply
swooning March 2, 2016 7:30 PM

Oh...I take it back, I'm sorry, it isn't the youngest to oldest clue I need. It's the thing with the

backs of the frog pictures

Reply

swooning,

You need to combine the younger-older clue, the backs of the frog pictures, and the clue from the red book

Reply

Spring was delightful! That ending made me laugh.

Robo Assembly had a bug when I played it.

The four number code would display a blank for any digit between 3 and 8. But it still counted the clicks so I just entered the code as intended even if it didn't display - eg to enter a 6, I clicked 6 times even though it was displaying a blank.

Spring Walkthrough

Opening the aqu[ahem, sorry] terrarium

You need to combine three clues: the red (pink?) book, the frog pictures, and the backs of the frog pictures.

Well, OK, so the terrarium itself has a clue of sorts, too: it tells you to go from young to old.

The red book is on the shelving unit, and the frog pictures are in the drawer underneath the books.

The pictures are of four stages in a frog's life cycle: tadpole (bottom left), starting to grow legs (top right), almost grown but still has a tail (bottom right), and fully grown and emerging from the water (top left). That gives the order.

The interpretation of the Morse code (which isn't really Morse code at all) on the backs of the pictures is given by the red book: it says to stack the bars from left to right, i.e. leftmost bar goes on the bottom, rightmost on the top.

Interpreting the backs of the pictures in this way gives: 3254.

Get: a vending-machine-prize ball with a green marble and a slip of paper.

Coat hooks

There is no screwdriver.

Remove the hooks from the wall via brute force, also known as "click like mad until it comes off".

Get: nothing that you can hold, but if you examine the wall underneath where the hooks were, you'll see that the walls of the room used to be white before they were green, and they were pink before they were white. Also, take a look at the coat hooks where they fell, and notice that the knobs are at different heights.

If 1 is lowest and 3 is highest, the knobs "say" 1312.

Colorful door

The clues are on the slip of paper from the terrarium, and the door itself.

What happens if you subtract "cold" from "colorful door code"?

If you remove all the c's, o's, l's, and d's, what's left is rfure. How convenient, then, that the buttons on the door have exactly those labels.

Get: pink marble. Also, while you're here, pick up that thing that says "RING" (on the floor to the left of the cabinet).

Drawer next to colorful door

The clue is the coat hook knobs, once you've wrested them from the wall.

Press the left button 3 times, the middle button once, and the right button twice. You should end up with the white tower-thingies at heights 1, 3, 1, and 2.

Get: yellow marble. There are also some pictures of the room at various points in time, with no good way to tell apart those points in time, other than the green-walled one is obviously the most recent. However, the top picture tells you that the walls were yellow before they were painted pink.

Left-right buttons (underneath drawer next to colorful door)

The clue is the frog. Now where did that critter get itself to after escaping from the terrarium?

Poor thing wants out: he's clinging to the window.

Left, right, right, left, right, left

If you click him and he jumps away, just go away and come back.

Get: white marble.

Old to new

You need all four marbles for this. The clues are the various things you've seen showing the progression of wall colors: the wall behind where the coat hooks used to be, and the pictures in the drawer.

From the evidence, we can conclude that the room went from we-don't-know-our-baby's-sex-yellow to woah-nelly-pink, then to a nice white, and then to couldn't-leave-well-enough-alone-green.
Colorblind: the marbles in your inventory are, left to right, green, yellow, white, and pink.

Pull down the lever and get the key.

Locked cabinet

Use the key to open the remaining cabinet door and get... springy shoes? OK then.

Commence Surrealism

You know those arrows on the wall to the right of the coat hooks? It's obviously where your "RING" button, uh, thingy needs to go.

Select both the shoes and the button in your inventory, then click up on the wall where the "SP" is. When you're close to the "SP", click the empty slot where the "RING" should go.

Oy, talk about invasive bamboo. (I desperately want to go around kicking all the shoots peeking out. If you do it right, they break off most satisfyingly. Alas, it's a losing war.) Also, our frog got ahold of an enlarging potion or something. (Turn to the window. Don't say I didn't warn you.)

Froggy wants a key to round out his collection. Where does a frog take up key-collecting? I shouldn't ask these things.

Remember that circled spot on the ground? It was a sign of things to come. Also, if you click that stalk of bamboo, you'll find a key.

Give the key to the frog, then click the rope he pulls out of nowhere.

Gah, the ending of Spring reminds me that it's time to resume the undending war with the neighbor's obscenity (otherwise known as bamboo). We've had some warm spells, it's probably way ahead of me already.

Uhhh... idk if anyone else is having this problem, but the Robo Assembly link isn't working for me. I clicked both the text link and the image, and both of them say "403 forbidden" (although it's definitely an actual website, not the browser default thingy you get with 404 errors)
