Weekday Escape

DoraDing! Another installment of Weekday Escape is ready to come out of the oven, baked to flaky, rich perfection by three of your favourite escape game developers, and ready to be eaten all by yourself in one sitting. This week! MayMay's kitchen may be a little weird and involved more code cracking than you're used to, but there's pie in your future. Primera would like a masterpiece, though maybe they should have left the paints and brushes out for us then? And Funkyland's not going to let us open any presents or have any sweets until we track down some eyeliner.

Girl's Room No. 16: EyelinerGirl's Room No. 16: Eyeliner - It may be Christmas in the Funkyland abode, but that doesn't mean it's time for makeup addicts to rest on their impeccably preened laurels. You need to find five eyeliners hidden throughout the festive room, where puzzles protect them from your grabby hands. I'll help you sort through the presents, crack the codes, and deal with that pink frog again, but if this eyeliner isn't liquid, you're going to have to be the one to handle it, unless you want to look like a raccoon. Who had its eyeliner applied by a mess with shaky hands.

Blueberry PieBlueberry Pie - You may feel differently (and you'd be wrong), but there is no finer thing in life than a slice of warm blueberry pie topped with a melting dab of vanilla ice cream, so naturally, I am all about helping MayMay out here if that means we get hooked up with some. This isn't going to be solved by Googling an Alton Brown recipe, however. Oh, we'll be cooking alright, but it's going to involve figuring out how to decipher some clues and make the gadgets work in the most fiddly kitchen ever. I suppose that means victory will literally taste all the sweeter when that pie is done?

PaintingPainting - Even if you're like me, and your only artistic ability is drawing stickmen so poorly rendered they beg for the paper shredder, you're still going to need to roll up your sleeves for a masterpiece in this game from Primera. Don't let that blank canvas intimidate you... we can do this! I mean... that's sure a lot of locks on cabinets and puzzles, but, well, I assume this is what every great artist goes through, right? Besides, you saw that episode of Doctor Who... after what Van Gogh dealt, this is easy!

We love escape games, and our readers love talking about them and sharing hints! How about you? Let us know what you think, ask for clues, or help out other players in the comments below.

On Blueberry Pie, I am absolutely stuck.

I can't open the three colour lock. I think it has to do with the containers of powder next to the toaster oven, but Y-O-G or Y-O-B doesn't work.

I feel a little silly

I feel like I guessed the color code, although I suppose there could be some logic to it:

The symbol behind the three containers...

...seems to indicate mixing colors...

...yellow + red = orange...

...results in an odd solution:

orange, red, purple

I am stuck with the following items:

  • Glass (cannot be filled with water)

  • Bowl of flour

  • Box of powdered milk (cannot be opened)

  • Pureed blueberries

None of these can be mixed together according to the recipe on the wall.

Now I've also tried

the powder colors backwards (using both G and B because who can tell which it is and I've also tried re-using the old clue of the fruit bowl from the first room. No such luck. Aughh.

I have the same items except one slight difference

I filled the glass, but not with water. There's something else you can fill it with

Ohhhhhhh. This is tricky tricky tricky and I would have spent forever trying to get it. Below is a pretty big spoiler if you haven't gotten the

blueberries

but if you have by guessing don't worry

They make you fill your glass up with red juice and dump it into the powder to get your clues before you can use it to get water.

Thanks, FallOutCoy. That hint unblocked me.

Regarding Blueberry Pie:

The three color cabinet (to the right of the sink) and the right hand glass cabinet (to the right of the four apples) can both be solved and opened without performing a few preliminary steps.

But if you do not perform these steps, you will be stuck and unable to proceed.

Fill the glass with something other than water.

But where do you find this other thing?

The machine to the right of the sink is a juicer.

Then you use the changed item to get the clues.

And only now can you fill the glass with water.

Blueberry Pie: Never did a puzzle so call out for its own rating.

Ok - re Blueberry Pie, I am completely stuck, and have had to restart twice now :-(

I get from Willyum's clue that

I can't just guess the "blueberry cabinet" or the "powdered milk cabinet" clue (despite both being very logical to my mind, and I got them without really thinking), unless I want to get completely stuck. Which I am, even on the restart.
Willyum's clue said that I needed an "other item" to

use the juicer,

but without the blueberries or the milk powder, I've only got the glass

(I need the milk powder to then open the cabinet that has the flour in it, so I'm presuming from Willyum's clue that I can't do that yet).

I've tried multiple times to pick up all of the available fruit and liquid in the jugs, but nothing happens.
What am I missing and where do I get it? I feel like I've clicked every pixel in the game :-(
Thanks!

Toonster:

The juicer is, bizarrely, already filled with some fruit. You just have to put the glass next to it (on the right hand side IIRR) and it'll fill up with juice itself. It took me some clicking to find the right spot, but it will happen. Only then can you carry on with the rest of the game as you'd expect.
