The Happy Escape 8 Remake

Whether it's Christmas time or not, there's always time for Tesshi-e, and this time underneath the tree you'll find The Happy Escape 8 Remake all wrapped up, just for you. As the name implies, it's a remake of The Happy Escape 8, and you've got yourself locked up in one very merry room. Just like in the original game, Santa's looking for something to help him relax before Christmas really kicks off, and that means he'd like you to brew him a cup of your famous coffee... and find all ten Happy Coins, of course. This is a Tesshi-e escape game after all. Making sure to set the text to English from the main menu if you can't read Japanese, playing the game is as simple as clicking on things to interact, and solving the puzzles hidden throughout the room. Being a remake, you can expect it to share a lot with the original game, of course, but aside from the new look, you may find yourself solving puzzles you remember in different ways. Besides... when have you ever needed a reason to play a Tesshi-e game? 'Tis always the season.

Okay, I have

a mug, 4 happy coins, and a teapot which I have put on the (still-empty) stove. Have opened the left closet and looked at stuff behind the three paintings.

I feel like the next thing I need is probably a

screwdriver

but so far no luck. And I can't figure out the math in the

hippo book. Have run several different possibilities and nothing I've come up with seems to work in any of the possible locations. And the three-digit number on the hippo behind the Santa painting also seems useless so far, but I figure I'm supposed to be adding or subtracting that somewhere.

Honestly I'm half-hoping that the power of posting will activate once I submit this because I feel I must be missing something SUPER obvious.

Halp? A tiny nudge? A math help?

np, swooning! :)

I have

6 coins, coffee (already put in grinder), a pole (used to get plant already), matches, tea pot (on stove), and mug

and now I'm stuck :/ I feel like this should lead somewhere:

pattern on matchbox vs code behind left door

but I can't seem to get it to work.

Help?

Coffeeteamix December 8, 2015 4:05 PM

OK i've made progress.
Figured out the number code for

the drawers underneath the birds

which lead to the

screwdrivers and the places that need it

I figured out the code for

the left picture

but I have no clue how, even though I'm fairly confident in which direction I should have been looking at.

Now I'm stuck again and still haven't gotten into the

grid puzzle behind the left door

timistheword December 8, 2015 4:15 PM replied to Coffeeteamix

I figured out the grid puzzle, but can't get the numbers below the birds. For the grid puzzle,

use the Z pattern, follow the arrow, and don't skip any squares, in spite of what the matches suggests.

Coffeeteamix December 8, 2015 4:16 PM

OK, more progress.
Apparently the part where I got stuck at for 2 "posts":

the colors on the matchbox don't mean anything. Only the arrow matters.

Still not done yet. Need

2 more coins and code for right door and key for center door

but I think I'm making decent progress :3

Thanks, timistheworld. As for your problem:

have you figured out the 3 pictures?

each number can be found on objects on/near clues related to the 3 pictures

Also, apparently, to get the clue for the left picture,

I had to light the stove first, which I didn't do when I last posted, so I was just lucky. Oops =P

@Mixus: Do you really want to know? I can't think of any way to give subtle hints, so once you open this spoiler, you have the answer. Ready???

nothing.
You do nothing with it.
BUT!

There's a coin stuck to it if you haven't found it yet.
