Rain

elleOutside, the Rain is falling and what's there to do if you're stuck inside? Make the most of a rainy day by gathering clues and solving your way out! At first this unassuming little escape game from Yonashi seems like a simple time waster with a handful of rather standard puzzles. Although it's just a tad light on challenge, its quiet charm sneaks up on you as you explore and encounter a number of animated characters. Soon you're won over by a design that's as shyly sweet as an April shower and painted in hues that feel like color therapy.

RainRain plays it safe with the same tried-and-true agents of escape game puzzling—wobbly picture frames, 4-button boxes, item use, and so on. Solutions are usually intuitive but, without verbal directives, you're left to infer what you're supposed to be doing with the items you're collecting. It's not always so clear, but the changing cursor and other visual clues help you narrow in on active areas. One hot spot in particular seems arbitrary because, if you try to do what you think you should to do, but are not careful where you do it, you could be thrown off. Yet the charm overcomes any shortfalls making the whole experience pleasantly satisfying; its in the simplest ways that Rain entertains most. As in No Name Room, Yonashi shows a surprising amount of depth within a minimal design here; the artwork, clue presentation and other extra touches make Rain unique enough to please, earning an unreserved recommendation.

the ending

So we were held captive by a rabbit until we both changed the weather and got it a carrot. How demanding.

Is there a word for that thing where the default of any cartoon creature is male until it has lipstick/eyelashes/hairbow? Even a frog?

When you say

select the painting and follow the numbers below

what do you mean by that? The numbers I have aren't in any order that makes sense. I tried

clicking on the corners of the paintings for those numbers of times

, but nothing happened.
