Outbreak Escape

I thought Raccoon City had the monopoly on monstrous viral outbreaks, but hey, why should they have all the fun? In Esklavos' creepy escape game Outbreak Escape, you need to find ten vaccines before you can evacuate in a city where humans have turned into horrible beasts... so basically training for anyone who plans to hit the shopping mall at Christmas time. To play, just click on objects to interact or move around the area, watching for your cursor to change when it passes over something clickable. Objects you're carrying can be used from your inventory at the bottom of the screen, or potentially combined, so don't be afraid to experiment. Instead, be afraid of what might be lurking in the shadows of this extremely dark and foreboding hospital. Like most of Esklavos' titles, Outbreak Escape has great atmosphere, with sullen yellows and moody lighting helping to create a mood of tension. However, also like most Esklavos titles, it does suffer a little from finicky hotspots that mean you might get stuck just because you didn't realize something in the environment had a different contextual action just a few pixels shy of where you clicked. Still, if you want something spooky that isn't gory (though you will see a small patch of blood) or laden with jumpscares, Outbreak Escape and its clutch of puzzles and codes is a pleasantly macabre diversion for a short break from your day.

Walkthrough
(I know it's a simple game, but it's still possible to get stuck)

Ambulance bay

Items

  • Rope piece 1

    top of ambulance

  • Hose

next to front wheel of ambulance

  • Broom

    next to trash can

  • Rope piece 2

    in trash can

  • Rope piece 3

on the right, next to wall

  • Magnet

Use the broom under the ambulance

  • Crowbar

Combine the magnet with the three pieces of rope; use it on the grates.

Clues

There's a paper stuck to the wall on the left side of the utility bay (with the trash can).

A sequence of 6 letters which changes every game

(dots in the shape of a Z)

Opening the door

Use the crowbar. Which then mysteriously disappears. Must have been one shoddy crowbar.

Hallway with bed

Just the one vaccine to collect here (next to the pillow).

Room with tables

(Get here by going forward, toward the light, from the hallway with the bed.)

Puzzles

Click the glass insert on the far table to see a 4x4 grid of buttons. Use the clue from the ambulance bay to open it.

Press the buttons in the shape of a Z (for zombie, get it?)

Get: 2 vaccines

Clues

There's a paper on the wall next to the door on the right.

4, 5, 1, 2, 6, 3, each number surrounded by a broken circle.

Arrows pointing south, west, south, east, southeast, southwest

Hallway with first-aid box

(Get here by going forward from the room with tables)

The first-aid box needs a key. Or a crowbar, but that mysteriously disappeared.

Restroom

(Get here by going left from the hallway with first-aid box)

Item: vaccine

Use the broom on the pile of dirt on the right.

Puzzle: briefcase

Use the arrow clue from the room with the tables. Get: vaccine

Exam room

(Get here by going forward from the hallway with first-aid box)

Item: matches

In plain sight on the desk.

Puzzle: left-hand cabinet

Use the broken-circles clue from the room with the tables.

The first number goes on the top left, and the rest of the numbers proceed clockwise from there.

Get: vaccine

Puzzle: door

Click the panel to the right of the door and put in the letter code from the ambulance bay.

Room with cage

(Get here via the door in the exam room)
Items

  • Empty jerrycan

    On the far right

  • Key

    On top of the cage

  • Vaccine

Can't get this yet; need gloves

Time to revisit some places

Hallway with first-aid box

Use the key on the box. Get the gloves.

Room with cage

Now that you have the gloves, you can get that vaccine.

Ambulance bay

Steal some gas!

Combine the hose with the jerrycan, then use it on the ambulance.

Scary room (so named either because there are zombies moving around just out of sight, or because of that scary-looking exam chair, take your pick)

(Get here by going right from the hallway with the bed)

The game suggests burning this place. Probably a good idea.

Pour the gas from the jerrycan near the exam chair, then light it with the matches. Take the vaccine before it gets incinerated, too, then hightail it out of there.

Ambulance bay, one last time

Once you have all 10 vaccines, just click the ambulance to end the game.

Pretty simple game. Interesting effects, but it felt a little too simple. The finicky comment is correct as well--there were one or two spots where if I hadn't been trying to click on everything, I would have missed that something was there.

Love the atmosphere. Got stuck though...I have the

4/10 vaccines, glove, and broom. I can't figure out the briefcase puzzle or circles puzzles.

The note with the solution to the circle puzzles and the briefcase lock is

on a poster hanging on the right side of the room with the indented table.

I made a short video walkthrough for the game and added it to my channel:
