Monkey GO Happy Tales 2

DoraI'm not saying the primates in Pencil Kids' point-and-click puzzle Monkey GO Happy games are making a deliberate and concentrated effort to get rid of all their little mini monkeys. I'm just saying it's a little suspicious that those little monkeys keep going missing in such dangerous places. They've done it again, and like the original Monkey GO Happy Tales, in Monkey GO Happy Tales 2 you'll be guiding one of our little negligent authority figures through multiple stages of strange places and creatures, trying to track the mini monkeys down. To play, just click to interact, and drag any items from your inventory at the top of the screen to where you'd like to try to use them on the field.

Jokes about responsibility aside (although I am telling you my mother would never have accepted "abducted by a giant crab" as a legitimate excuse for losing my little sister), Monkey GO Happy Tales 2 is everything you expect from a Monkey GO Happy game. Silly, colourful, short, and with a gentle curve in difficulty and complexity to ensure that each stage is just a liiiiiittle more challenging than the others. It's the sort of thing that, though still enjoyable at any age, feels more geared towards children since for most adults it'll be over too quickly and easily, but the whimsical level design and clever use of hidden codes makes it a welcome little diversion regardless.

There used to be a challange in each monkey-go-happy (to try in as less clicks as possible), but nowadays only the point-and-click remains.
Not too much of a challenge, no hard puzzles.

But nevertheless still a fun little game. So for that my 3/5 points.

Walkthrough

This is the sort of step-by-step hand-holding walkthrough that I don't like, but it's all I have time for, and it ought to make Paul happy. :)

  • Stage 1

    • Go left. Look in the bushes; get the jack.

    • Go right twice. Use the jack to lift the engine. Get the lockpick.

    • Go left twice. Use the lockpick to open the door of the shed.

    • Get the shovel and the helmet.

    • Use the shovel to dig next to the shed (where the big green arrow is pointing). Get the steering wheel.

    • Use the shovel to dig to the right of the engine (where the big green arrow is pointing). Get the propeller.

    • Give the items to the dwarf.

  • Stage 2

    • Get the rake (the handle sticking out the side of the sandcastle).

    • Go left. Get the paddle (sticking out the dune above the treasure chest).

    • Use the rake to move the pile of leaves; get the pearl.

    • Go right, then get on the raft. Use the paddle to get to the island.

    • Get the pearl. Note the markings on the rock.

    • Go back to the sandcastle, then go right.

    • Use the rake to move the pile of leaves; get the pearl.

    • Put the pearls into the box. Get the key.

    • Go left twice and use the key to open the treasure chest. Get the crown. (Dunno why the game calls it a magnet.)

    • Go right, then go into the sandcastle. Give the crab the crown and get the box key from him.

    • Open the box (in the window) with the key. Put in the code you saw on the island.

  • Stage 3

    • Note the pattern on the gate. Get the rock from the top of the wall on the right.

    • Go right. Click the panel on the right wall and put in the pattern you saw on the gate. Get the gargoyle.

    • Get the rock from the top of the right wall. Note the statue of the bird.

    • Go left twice. Get the three rocks: one on top of the wall, one on the ground on the left, and one in the bushes.

    • Put all the rocks into the lever. Get the gargoyle.

    • Go right. Put the gargoyles on the pedestals.

    • Go forward into the castle. Above the king is a dial; point it the direction the bird statue was facing.

    • Go back and right to the bird statue. Go down into the basement. Get the blue key and the stone heart.

    • Go back to the castle and use the blue key to open the left chest. Get the life potion.

    • Use the life potion on the bird statue. Get the green key.

    • Use the green key to open the right chest. Get the dissolve potion.

    • Use the dissolve potion on the knight in the basement. Put the stone heart into place on his chest. Wait for him to smash the boards on the right; get the golden apple.

    • Give the king the golden apple.

  • Stage 4

    • Get the bone sticking up out of the snow.

    • Go left. Get the three planks. Get the lone leaf off of the tree.

    • Go right. Put the planks on the bridge.

    • Go right. Get the mushroom on the right.

    • Put the bone on the stone, then click the troll. Get the broken bone.

    • Go left twice and go into the hut. Put your items on the table. Get the potion from the shelf.

    • Use the potion on the troll. Go into the cave.

    • Get the cauldron. Go back to the bridge and fill the cauldron with water.

    • Go back to the hut and put the cauldron on the fire.

    • Take the now-steaming cauldron back to the cave and pour the hot water on the ice block. Get the key.

    • Go back to the hut and use the key to open the door on the wall.

  • Final Stage

    • Get the shell (#1) and the ladder.

    • Go left. Get the shell (#2) and the dagger.

    • Go right, then up to the castle. Get the shells (#3 and #4).

    • Go into the door. Get the shell (#5).

    • Use the dagger to pry up the floorboard on the left. Get the shell (#6) and the cabinet key.

    • Open the cabinet with the key. Get the stone circle (#1) and the shell (#7).

    • Put the ladder underneath the circle in the ceiling. Go up.

    • Get the shells (#8 and #9) and the stuffed rabbit.

    • Go back down and collect your ladder.

    • Go outside, then forward. Get the shell (#10). Give all of your shells to the guard.

    • Go forward. Note the pattern on the rocks. Use the ladder to climb up to the nest.

    • Get the stone circle (#2). Use the dagger to break the egg; get another stone circle (#3).

    • Put the rabbit into the nest. Wait for the bird to drop a feather. Get the feather.

    • Go back down and collect your ladder.

    • Go back to the castle and into the door.

    • Use the ladder to climb up into the room with the sick guy. Give him the feather. Get the key.

    • Go outside (no, you don't need the ladder anymore). Use the key to open the hatch on the ground.

    • Get a bomb. Light it on the torch, then go left twice and use the bomb on the rocks.

    • Repeat with another bomb. Go forward into the cave. Get the unlit torch.

    • Go back to the castle and light the torch.

    • Go back to the cave and put the now-lit torch in place.

    • Put your stone circles into the spaces.

    • Put in the code you saw on the way to the eagle's nest.

As long as Pencil Kids wants to keep making Monkey Go Happy games, I will keep playing them and giving them 5/5 stars. And that's a promise.

That's some crazy monkey action! I was expecting it to say "pay $ for more levels", but it didn't!
