TrickyDROD: King Dugan's Dungeon Lite - Episode 2Oh, Deadly Rooms of Death! Not since Divine Divinity has a redundant name heralded such awesomeness! The easy part of Beethro Budkin's quest to rid King Dugan's dungeon of terrorizing baddies is over, as he descends to floors 5 through 8. But even an expert smitemaster like Beethro may be stymied without a little guidance from you. So ready your Really Big Sword and enter DROD: King Dugan's Dungeon Lite - Episode 2, another great installment in Caravel Games' series of turn-based puzzle-strategy games.

Move Beethro with the [arrow] keys (though utilizing the diagonals of the number keypad is recommended if you have one), and swing the Really Big Sword clockwise or counterclockwise with the [W] and [Q] keys. Explore each level to find the exit, opening doors by triggering switches and killing various serpents, goblins, and the dreadful living tar. Each switch can be clicked with the mouse to reveal how it will affect the environment. With every move you make, the baddies will respond with a move of their own (and watch out for those diagonals!). New players should probably start with Episode 1, but there's nothing in the plot or mechanics that would prevent those looking for immediate challenge from jumping right in. Good luck! And seriously... Watch out for that living tar.

Level 5 Secrets and Achievements

Easterville (5:1W)

Backswipe roaches, then use top trapdoors. For the eyes, go between the top two small obstacles with the eyes together on the other side (top eye right), then move:
2 6 9 8 999 8 7 4 66 44 6
For the last pair, lead across other trapdoors.

Cleanliness (5:1N,2W)

I did it by clearing the right side of the path first.

Orb Avoider (5:2N)

Have Beethro clear the upper right room.

Static Hands (5:1S)

Enter from the upper East side with sword West.

Perfect Vision (5:2S)

Walk down on the darker tiles, move back and forth on arrows to kill 2 eyes, point sword East then go east and up.

Wraithwing Whisperer (5:3E)

Just stay near the entrance.

Controlled Mimicry (5:1S,1W)

Enter from bottom, don't destroy corner walls, and don't let any roaches get past.

Can't Stand Yellow (5:2S,2E)

After a lot of running back and forth, I eventually managed to corner him between the path and the edge of the screen.

5:1S,2W

Hit orb from SE.

5:2E

The lower right arrow protects you from the left.

5:2N,2W

Go clockwise to get to orb.

Secret 5:1

Enter from 5:2S,1E.

You want to wake one eye from each pair, so check which gates block their sight and which don't. Do not leave the gate with the arrow open.

Secret 5:2

Enter from 5:3N,2W.

Go diagonally towards the center, killing a wraith whenever three can see you, and make sure you can pin the last one against the wall.

Level 6 Secrets and Achievements

6:3W

Put mimic between last two gates.

6:3E
To clear trapdoors:

Go up to potion, place mimic on savepoint near center of right side. Go right 2, down 1, right, down, right, up to savepoint, right and down to middle potion, put mimic on bottom center savepoint. Move down 2 and up 2, pass through two savepoints, kill a mimic on the second.

Secret 6:1

Enter from Entrance.

Put a mimic in bottom left corner of each room. First clear the top room by moving all the way right, then bottom right room by moving mimic NW of center wall, then finish last roaches.

Secret 6:2

Enter from 6:3E.

Where is Master?

Clear trapdoors on 6:3E.

No one wants to rate this? A nice palate cleanser for Talesworth Adventure. https://jayisgames.com/archives/2012/04/talesworth_adventure_the_lost_artifacts.php

I love the DROD series, and I'm happy to say that the Flash re-release of King Dugan's Dungeon manages to be even better than the original.

Other flash developers should especially take note of the extremely thoughtful achievements that challenge the player to approach rooms in an entirely different way in order to earn them.

If you find yourself enamored with this game, I strongly suggest picking up King Dugan's Dungeon and Journey to Rooted Hold on the Caravel games page. King Dugan's Dungeon is the full game (with all levels completely available, whereas the flash game won't feature all the levels for at least another year) and Journey to Rooted Hold is the extremely excellent sequel that is certain to dazzle you with its clever story and even better puzzles. From there you should be able to decide if you want the other sequels or expansion packs that are available.

I will mention that I have had countless hours of fun with this series and would recommend it for anyone who enjoys puzzles which are logical, predictable (no randomness), turn based (no timers) and all hand-crafted.

This Flash port is an amazing feat!

See you all on the high-scores :)

Totally stuck on Fifth Level: Twice East. I cleared the arrow-rectangle up to the line with the eight eyes, and simply can't figure out how to do it. The solution for the desktop version doesn't seem to fit here. Any ideas?

A clue (if you're stuck where I think you're stuck): force arrows can be your friends.

I somehow did it, but I can't figure out how ;)

^^^ Yes, that happens sometimes to me too. If you wish, you can always restore and play the room again.

Sigh. Now I'm completely stuck on Level 7 Once South. I love the game, but dang if it doesn't frustrate me.

Talonic (L7 1S): There are no special tricks to that room, it's just a matter of clearing each section efficiently while retreating or hiding from the other roaches as necessary. Keep trying!

@John259

Once I hit the "Hour of trying" mark, it's time to give up. I've cleared all three secrets and every other room of that floor, and that's the only one I'm stuck on. Was fun while it lasted, though!

For Level 7 1 south, enter from the right side of the room, and then when you get under the bottom right group of roach queens, stay below them so they will move up out of the bottom section. They'll likely get trapped in the neck, but that's good enough. Clear the bottom left, and then make sure that those queens from the bottom left have made enough roaches to fill the bottom right area preventing the queens from going back down. If you catch them in the right spot, one one roach should be hatching from the those three roaches.

@lbluething

Following the "move the bottom right queens out of that room", I managed to not only drop the number of rooms producing roaches to 6, but use two fleeing queens to block off two other rooms.

In other words, your advice was amazing. Thank you!

Only 2 secrets on Level 5? I do not want to take the stairs yet as it seems if I miss one and restore back later I have to complete the whole level again...

@Jose
I only found two secrets on level 5. But I'll have to wait until I finish level 8 to know for sure. (It's a shame they don't have stairs to the previous level for this purpose.)

You don't need to be afraid of restoring back whenever you want. DROD creates an autosave for each unconquered room you enter, keeping only the save with the most progression (usually the one with the most rooms conquered).

So, let's say you make it to Eighth Level: Once East, but want to do some achievements you left on Sixth Level. You can just use "Restore To a Different Room" to take you to the room you want in Sixth Level (which is an autosave from when you first entered that room), and do the achievement. After you complete the room, you can go back to the main menu and use "Restore To a Different Room" again, and choose Eighth Level: Once East, and you're back to where you were. Just consider each room in the restore menu as an autosave of your progress when you entered that room, and you'll do fine.
