Magic Pen 2 is the sequel to Alejandro Guillen's Magic Pen, the popular and fairly faithful Flash adaptation of Petri Purho's Crayon Physics Deluxe. This edition features 32 more puzzling levels, all selectable from the moment you start the game, mostly set in various crayon-rendered versions of historical locations. The level designs feel a bit more intricate this time, with more on-screen obstacles and even a few moving contraptions to cope with. The usual nice coloring book illustrations and relaxing music round out the package.
The idea, as always, is simple. Get the red ball (or square) to touch all the flags by drawing physical objects directly onto the screen with your crayon-like cursor. Drop a large sphere from above to knock the ball to one side, draw ramps to help it roll up large steps, attach hammers to the landscape with hinges and knock it over gaps. Your abilities are limited only by your imagination and the shape recognition algorithm's inability to recognize concave angles.
Press [S] to place a fixed pin, and [D] for a rotating hinge. Press [A] to erase a shape. A welcome addition to Magic Pen 2 is the wind cursor—press [W] and click near the red shape to give it a little nudge in the right direction when your plan isn't quite unfolding perfectly.
There are no major improvements to the formula, but such a childlike, pure idea doesn't need them. This is a heap more Magic Pen for everyone who loved it the first time. Enjoy.
This is excellent. I actually prefer it over the original Crayon Physics demo that was posted a while back.
At first, I was bothered by the lack of concave shapes, but I actually decided I prefer it: Levels that would be childishly easy with a scoop or a bucket require much more creative thinking without them. The level designs are great--very difficult at times, but great.
I'm on Level 10; I can't wait to finish this tomorrow.
Great game.
Does anyone knows the name of the song or if it was made for the game?
I'm stuck on level 7. Any hints?
I found level seven a bit tricky:
Wasn't expecting to have to push a square up a slope so i used triangular wedges to slowly push it up to the flag. Just keeping wedging in triangles and the square will eventually make it to the flag. Removing earlier wedges also helps to move it along.
Here's how I beat level 7:
I made a giant scale and flung the red block to the other side.
1) put a pin on the left-hand top block of the pyramid on the right.
2) Create a big overhanging block.
3) Put a new pin in the overhanging block, close to over top of the red square. Put a small rectangle on this. This is the "center" of your scale.
4) Put a hinge at the bottom of the small rectangle, and draw a large horizontal rectangle, with the hinge at the center.
5) Chances are the scale is off-balance and will start to swing. While it's still swinging, put a hinge on the right-hand side of the scale and a hinge on the red box. Connect them with a drawing when they're close.
6) Your scale probably stopped. Put a pin in the left-hand side, and draw as big a block as you can in the space you've got. This will lift up the red block!
7) While it's lifting, delete the piece connecting the red block to the scale.
Just read Stevedave's solution and must now pick my jaw up off the floor. I love this game, but I'm no good at it because I don't think of things like that.
Level 12 was also a challenge for me. It took some time, but here's how I did it:
I used the existing block to the right of the circle as a fulcrum and flung the red circle trebuchet-style to the goal.
1) Create a large triangle to rest on the right-most pillar. Make the long edge face the right-hand edge of the screen, just like the "\" backslash character. This block is your insurance policy.
2) Draw a long straight line just above the red circle, starting from the left-hand edge of the screen and going to until about half-way across the pit. The goal is to make it come to rest, not tip.
3) Put a hinge on the left-hand edge of your new rectangle, and a hinge on the red ball, and connect them with a straight line.
4) This is the hard part. Drop a huge ball on the right-hand side of the long horizontal bar, and then be prepared to hold A and click like mad to get the long horizontal bar to erase. Once it's gone, the ball will fly free.
If you time step 4 right, it will fly right into the little pit with the flag. It took several tries for me but I eventually got it.
Here's how I did 7 (with only 2 shapes)
Draw a line from the under the block across to the other side
Place a hinge in the upper right corner of the box
Position the mouse just above and to the right of your hinge and create circle, the momentum will roll the box to the other side. You may have to use a little trial and error to get the circle just the right size, but it works.
After spending 3 hours finishing all levels, I have to say, this game could have been much better. I've been waiting for this since the last one and was disappointed once again. Although the levels are more challenging, there is little improvement from the first Magicpen.
Power sources, or the lack of them, the biggest disappointment in the first game, is still in this one. How to get the ball from the bottom to the top is the ONLY problem in most levels. After that, gravity takes over.
Using
pendulum, see saw or linking the ball to weights with chains
are the only methods to raise the ball.(Wind-blowing doesnt' work on slopes over 10 degrees. There is also a bug you can exploit. I didn't.) Usually, the first two don't work at all, due to limited space, which leaves the third as the only choice in most levels. It was fun for one or two levels. After a while, it became repetitive work. Except for the level you have to move a big rock(level 22 or 23), all levels look almost the same as if they were mass-produced with the same mold.
"Fantastic contraption" is much better in this aspect, since there are multiple paths leading to many solutions.
3 out of 5.
Before anyone asks, yes, I know about catapults. Since they can be implemented with a see-saw or by erasing one link when the chains are flying, I didn't put them in a different category.
And yes, there are existing power sources in the last few levels, like the rotating wheels, which make them even easier than the early levels.
I found a glitch right click inside the game and scroll till you see forwards click it and viola you won the whole game play any level.
Why can't I type a 'Z' into the What is your name field??
- OverZealous (aka OZ)
I didn't understand what to do at level 6, so I didn't even bother to play beyond that.
Crayon Physics was far superior. It at least led you up in difficulty levels from one to the next.
hey! im not exaclty the best at this game... i hav two levels that i cant do, level 32 and level 5! i just cant seem to do either of them! please help!
thanku!
hey, can someone help me on levels 7, 9 and 15? please help
...and JIGuest...level 5 is easy i made it with only 2 shapes:
1.- put a pin on the chain, at the right side
2.-push the red circle with a big circle
Level 26 is easy! I did it with two shapes, the blue block under the flag, you can place pins and hinges on it. Just pin it on the bottom, draw a long line to the right, then draw a GIANT triangle, with a slope facing inwards.
I am stuck on level 16. Does anyone know how to solve this one?
There is an easier way to complete level 7.
Keep drawing lines inside the box. The box should move.
I'm stuck on 6! Any help??
Hey I just found out something!
hold w (wind) and your mouse and then let go of your mouse and magic pen is blowing!
For level 7 the fastest way to do it is to draw a triangle behind the square and start dropping circles down the slope. The circles push the square right along.
Well if you're stuck at level 7 I have a 1shape way... Put a cross, shift whatever the "X" on the top right of the square then make a line going to the ceiling straight up, then go left to the very corner and then go down about the same length you went across..If you know what I mean? My overall score, at the moment is 158001. I'm trying to get higher but I did every level in a MAXIMUM of 2 shapes, most done in one. Entire game done in 32 shapes :P Need any help just ask, bear in mind I play on the original site and will be unlikely to post here anytime soon. Unless you reply quickly (:
help! cant get pass level 9!!!
To beat level 6, make a shape that connects the towers. Pin a shape onto the square that connects to the first tower. Hinge a circle-like shape that's a little bit big.
I'm stuck on level 6 and none of these comments are helping me!PLEASE!! I'm begging!
why is it, that i cannot erase or place a pin/hinge??? it's not really fun to play it then...
