New stylesheet is up

New banner by Matt HammillJust a quick update to give a big warm shout-out to Matt Hammill, designer of the recently reviewed Gesundheit game, for the outstanding job he did on the new banners and graphics for the site!

Cheers, Matt! \o/

Note: If you have any trouble with the site not displaying the new graphics, just reload your browser and that should load the new stylesheet automatically. Depending on the browser you use, sometimes the files are cached and it doesn't always refresh them unless you force it to.

Nice job on the graphics, Matt! Great style, and it fits well with the "casual" aspect of "casual gameplay." The touch where the banner collapses/is cropped/shrinks when looking at posts is quite nice, somehow.

Cutest design ever!!

Absolutely lovely. Will the "Support JIG" widget be updated to match?

While the new style is quite good, has anyone considered making multiple styles available? It's not at all difficult and it allows people to choose which style they want.

I only see background - no banner, nowhere does it say Jayisgames! I've reloaded, cleared cach, nada. I'm using Firefox.

in FF 2.02 on the comment pages the banner doens't seem top size the right way... it appears only half as high and has more content right and left (especially the left)

but lovely graphics!... great design Matt! (and will you be designing some other gesundheit goodness for us (prettyplease???) )

Thank you all for your kind support. Matt will be very pleased to read all your words of praise for the work he's done. =)

junklord - there has been a stylesheet switcher available on the site since November, 2005. Just click "Prefs" in the menu above and select the style you prefer; the present one is clearly the best one we've had so far, though.

slgalt - do you see this image? I have heard of someone else having trouble with a background CSS image in Firefox before, but the 'problem' seemed to clear itself up without any intervention. What specific version of Firefox are you using, and Mac or PC?

Jaap - the banner on the comment pages is different than on the main page. It's only 60 pixels in height, and is supposed to be that way. But your comment: "...and has more content right and left (especially the left)" confuses me. What do you mean exactly?

Excellent design, great work Matt! :) And Jay; stumbled upon this site a month ago, now I'm hooked... Can't seem to do anything productive lately, thanks a lot :P

Reply

By the way, if you can't get the 'Prefs' thing to change your stylesheet, reload the page and try again.

Reply

Gorgeous! Not like I really need any more reasons to visit the site :-)

I love the new design. It looks like a drawing which makes it even better.

Well done Matt Hammill

Looks great!

Absolutely beautiful... can I hire him? ;)

There's quite a bit of grey space between the banner and the content on comments pages. I like the way the banner shrinks, but the grey space makes it look as if the picture's only half loaded, or something...?

Reply

T'is beautiful. I like the watercolorish, tissue paperish background. Well done Mark Hammill.

Reply

The space below the banner and just above the menu on comment pages is for ads.

awesome redecoration... it's like spring cleaning without the cleaning... very playful and fitting... great job

I just love it ! Kawaii ! Nice work Matt !

Love the new color scheme, too. Love the childish drawing style, which only adds to the 'good, clean fun' outlook of this site.

You've been always been honest with us so I will be honest with you Jay.

But my mother always said if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all, so...............

Reply

Sweeeeeeeeet. Good job.

Reply

Bubbarider - although masked in kind courtesy, saying nothing is actually worse than offering constructive criticism, as it is effectively not helping at all.

40 - yay; 1- nay. I can live with that.

My mother always told me that you can't please everyone. =)

Just chiming in to say I love the new theme, I tip my hat to Matt! Also, it seems the site loads slightly faster which is always a bonus.

Reply

awesome artwork! I love it!

Reply

Thanks Jay, my bad. However it's all Javascript, I was thinking more like plain HTML <link rel="alternate stylesheet"...> tags which would allow control from the browser too.

Reply

Ah, now I understand. I tried setting up the stylesheets that way once, back in 2005, but I couldn't quite get it working with the scripts I have in place. That and I had trouble getting it to work in all browsers.

The current Javascript implementation works in all browsers.

Javascript FTW! =)

oh, how I love those stars.

Oh. Well here's where I probably should have posted the comment about my bannerical likings that I made on the new submachiene. Oops. -MANAX

Woo Matt person!

Why is the background full of pentagrams?

Reply

Tsuken, those are stars :)
