JayNeighborsOn has just today posted a new mini-game to his Eyezblog, and it is a simple little puzzle game called Neighbors.

The game is played by dragging each of the colored-top creatures to one of the 9 container pots such that everyone gets along happy and content. If you put one in the wrong spot, its neighbor(s) won't like it and will have a tizzy fit.

It's a cute game that shows off On's creative animations and charming characters that are so unique and of a style all his own. And while the puzzle game may not keep you occupied for long, it's always a red letter day when a new game pops up over at Eyezmaze.

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

This is an exelent game. Really good replay value, At least if you are trying to find a method that can give you an A every time.(I can now get C in 21-23 moves every time sometimes B in 20)
Here are some clues to my method.

Hint:

Not being neighbours is the most abundant information in this game. How to use this?

My method:

Use Home and away matrix. String up the colours that goes together. Ex: 1-2-3 (which also means 3 can't like 1 and you dont have to test that)
The string makes use of known enemies. Ex: 4-5-6-7 (if 7 doesn't like 4 it can't make a square)
By 9-12 moves you should have the basic string configuration.

Testing:

Try testing as many colours as possible to build up a long string. Enemies tells you about the possible configurations of the string

Game flaw? :

If yor not lucky with the positions of the testing pieces it's very difficoult with this method to get below 20.
It should be possible in a game of logic to get an A by logic not luck. Perhaps I use the wrong method or have overlooked something. If not, I think it's a flaw in the ranking system of the game.

CHALLENGE!
Find a way to solve this puzzle in 15 moves every time.

Eyemaze comes out with another awesome little game.

Very nice.

I only got a D so far.

Good thing it randomizes interactions between each time it's played so you can't do solutions.

I love On's games, they bring cute, creative joy to my life :D
This is really neat and fun. Though I think with a bit more thinking and a bit less trial and error, I could get more than an E :x

It would be nice if you could drag over a plant-dude and have the one in hand switch places with the one in pot.

Reply

I'm actually finding the opposite to Harukio.
On my first try, I made a lot of comparisons until I found one that could tolerate 4 of the others, so that I could put that one in the middle and build around it.
That method got me a score of 44 with a rank of D.

Then I tried just placing them with trial and error, and I got the solution in 26 moves, for a C rank.

Maybe I just got lucky that time.

glad to see On has used the correct spelling for the game title :D

Another excellent game from eyemaze... This one is nice and easy, but still holds a touch challenge if you try for a good score. Love the sound effects.

Reply

that was cute. I got a rank of E on my first try, but got a B (19 moves) for my second. :)

side note, every time I come here I have to sign in again with typekey, even though I checked the "keep me signed in for two weeks" box. I was here just yesterday and had to sign in again then and I have to sign in today too. Just wondering if anyone might know whether it was a typkey problem or a JIG problem or something else entirely?

Reply

lab_brat - it sounds like a cookie problem on your computer. I am perpetually signed into typekey and I never have to re-sign in.

TypeKey cookies are set to expire in a year.

Yeah, I got a B too.
It's pretty easy. Just place things here or there.
I think it randomizes, so no, I can't give the solution.

Reply

Help me!!!!!! I am drowning in games I want to play...

Reply

lab_brat: I believe it's also important that you check the box here on JIG that says 'Remember personal info?'.

I'm having the same effect, if I don't check that box.

Reply

Woo lots of fun. I got an E to start with, I can get a D most times using logic, but I cant seem to get any better than that. Anyone got any hints (other than blind luck) at getting a C or higher?

Reply

lab_brat, I'm having the same problem. I've got cookies turned on, but not only is Typekey not remembering me (and I use Typekey for other blogs, not just this one), JiG isn't remembering me even when I tick Remember personal info? Which is annoying.

I agree with Harukio, I'd like to be able to just drag a plant to a full pot and have them swap.

I have a solution, sort of...

The funny thing is, my solution is writing up a Home and Away style sheet, and there are two Australian television programmes shown in the UK that are actually rival Aussie programmes: Home and Away and Neighbours. Weird!
Anyway, get a sheet of paper or use a spreadsheet program like Excel, and type in the top row:
BLANK | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 |
Then do the same in the left column. Where #1 is level with #1, draw an X.
Each number represents the plant-dudes as they are laid out at the start of the game.
Now, drag #1 into a box, then drag #2 into a box next to him. For each reaction, give either a Y or a N next to each one. Then remove #2 and put #3 down, and note the reaction there.
Once you've filled in all the Y and N's, note down how many Y's each plant-dude has.
You'll notice that one particular plant-dude has FOUR Y's. Put him in the middle. Now, select one of the plant-dudes with TWO Y's in the top left corner. Now, simply look through your chart at who he can go next to with THREE Y's and so on.

If you decide not to use this method, there is always the guessing technique, which may give you a better score, or may end up using more moves than necessary.

I quite enjoyed this game, but only as a one-time gig. I don't feel like beating my score, so I suppose this has no replay value for me, personally.

I have a solution that works for me, relies a bit on luck, but I got a B with it:

Take the first one in the series and place it in the middle. Place four around it, and continually remove the bad neighbours until you've gone through all possibilities and found out how many good ones there are for that piece.
A.
If there are only two remaining that it can be neighbours with, then place it in the corner between those two.
Of the remaining pieces, simply begin placing them in the middle. If its good neighbours with just one, it goes in its respective corner. If its good with both, you've found the middle. The rest is simple trial and error.
B.
If there are three remaining that it can be good neighbours with, then one of those three are the middle neighbour. Take the bad neighbour and place it in between to see if it can find a match. If it can, then chances are that ones the middle guy (Odds are 3-2), so maneuver it to the middle. Now see if you can't maneuver some pieces into place. If its NOT the middle piece, then move it to the side and try any of the remaining unplaced pieces. However, I regret to inform you that, if this is the case, you WON'T be getting a B. =(
C.
If there are four good neighbours (lucky, lucky you), then simply place the corners. Its possible (1-2) that your sides are not oriented properly. Simply switch any of two sides that are touching each other diagonally (But then, you probably already knew to do that). After that, the pieces should all fall into place.
NOTE: Getting a B, even with this method, relies on the luck of the draw, so good luck!

With this type of game,I dont worry about solutions or getting best score...I just have fun!! Laughing at the little critters was just plain fun. Sounds were hilarious, just like fussy neighbors, lol.

Thanks for this one Jay.

thomas: thanks I tried that, but no joy. :(

ms. 45: that seems to be the same prob with me. I just tried checking the box and went away then came back and I have to sign in again. I'll check my cookie accepting settings, but I am sure they are ok. Guess we'll have to live with logging in each time lol :)

I got an A first time!

Hurrah

wow, this game is hard. can't even finish the first level. eh, i'm never a master at puzzle games. :)

Nice little game, but not much replay value. I managed to get a B on my second try.
Possibly the idea of the game is to force you into a little ordered thinking, which is the best way to go about it. As it randomises after each go, you just have to plod through and test each critter, and it's the plodding that turns me off.
Having said that, the last time On came up with a mini-game, it was developed into a half-decent full game, so it could be worth waiting to see what comes next.

Reply

After many tries, and none working, I just tried it again and got it in 15 drags!!! A for me :)

Reply

E first try, A second with 15 drags ^^
Their sounds are cute, sure get annoying after a while though.

Wow!
First attempt and I made an A, 15 drags!!

Reply

The best i got was 26 moves and a C, i don't get the scoring system but who cares.

Now, I sort of have a way so you easily save moves.

Know that every time 1 of the colours will have 4 neighbours, 4 of the colors will have 3 neighbours each (1 being the color in the middle and the 2 other being the one on top of it and the one on bottom of it) and 4 of the colors will only have 2 neighbours. These colors are in the 4 corners.
Ill map a drawing for you.
232
343
232
As you can see by this map your grid will always finish like that, and you just have to do trial and error method to figure it out and a little luck is involved so just keep trying and you'll figure it out soon.
Hints:
Once you find the colour that has four neighbours put it in the middle slot and etc. for the other ones. If you find a colour that only has 2 neighbours then put that color in the corner and put its neighbours beside it. Just a few hints so that you can bring your A game.
Good Luck.

...this game...is insanity...

Reply

ok the way to put them without them getting mad is from top row left is dark purple, dark blue, kind of like a snot green, then starting the next row is light purple, then the dark indigo, then teal, the last row starts with green, red, yellow

Reply

A tip-

No matter how the game is loaded, Red always seems to be a BAD neighbour. A VERY BAD neighbour. Hardly anyone likes him.

Reply

i got it in 22 drags and got a C..
i can see that there are 2 odd ones out

colours go.

blue. navy blue.red.
aqua.green.lightgreen.
yellow.light purple.darkpurple.

in my opinion. just dont try and u will get it.

I know the answer to get you to rank d:

Starting at the left of the first row is red, black, bluey-green. Second row, pink blue paley-green. And last row, yellow, purple, bright green

Reply

Haha! I had to write it all on paper :D so i got rank E.

I need to know how to use spoilers.

I have realized that the solution is different every time. When I put red and purple together the first time, they didnt get along. The second time I played, red and purple liked each other. I think that EYEZMAZE did this so no one could post a walkthrough

I got an A in 13 moves!!!!! I only had to move like 3 'neighbors'
