Pixel People

DoraJust because the world has ended and you're the only one left doesn't mean humanity is doomed. Why, with a little cash and some genetic material there's nothing you can't do... in spaaaaaaaaaaace! LambdaMu does the impossible by making the apocalypse adorable and addictive in the free iOS sim Pixel People, putting you in charge of rebuilding a starbound utopia from clones and cash. As the mayor of this newfound floating paradise, you'll be responsible both for building your town as you see fit and managing the incoming clones by splicing them with DNA you have on hand to create different types of people with different jobs. It's not playing God, it's... okay, yeah, it's totally playing God. Am I alone in expecting an inevitable expansion where all the clones go berserk, and the Mayor, played by Bruce Willis, has to escape? And along the way, he meets and falls in love with a young nurse, who is of course one of his clones, and also played by Bruce Willis? Man, that's going to be sweet.

Pixel PeopleYou don't have much to your utopia other than a few floating squares of land, but that'll change soon. The tutorial will walk you through the basics, but the gist is clones periodically arrive at the Arrival Center, and when they do, you splice 'em. Tapping on a clone will give you a list of all the options you have available, and you need to pick two that turn the vial in the center of the screen pink to create a new job. Essentially, this means rebuilding society boils down to a sort of Doodle God combination mechanism... 150 combos in all. When your new job is created, you may find it comes with a building, and you get to choose where to build it. Once it's been built, you can set your people to work in their appropriate locations, where they'll generate cash for you, which is spent on buying new housing or expanding land. Land is extremely important, since the amount you have dictates how much you can build, so make a point of buying expansions whenever possible. All of this takes time, naturally, so you'll have to keep checking to make the most of your society. If you have some, rare Utopium (found randomly, granted through bonuses, or just bought via microtransactions) can be spent to instantly speed up any process. Even in space, money greases the wheels.

Apart from splicing, you'll have to do some general maintenance around town. Buildings need to be repaired periodically when the blue and yellow lightning bolt symbol appears above them, so tap to fix whenever you see it. You'll also notice hearts start to appear on your residential buildings, and whenever that happens, tap to open the building's screen, and then tap and hold on the heart til it expands to gather it. Get enough of them, and you'll earn a random surprise ranging from animals to cash and more. Your town's buildings do more than just generate moolah, too. Tap on a building to get a general overview of it, and you'll discover that certain establishments either grant you a passive bonus, like the bank doubling the output of all full buildings, or an upgrade you can buy, spending a donation of Utopium at the church for more land.

Pixel PeopleAnalysis: Pixel People is one of those games that seems almost too simple on first contact, and yet you can't quite keep yourself from coming back to it again and again. The problems boil down to two shared by virtually all similar freemium games... repetition and busywork. It just doesn't offer a whole lot of depth for the player to actually take part in, but you can't really leave the game alone for long since even springing for the optional upgrade granted by the enterprise complex, which doubles the time between repairs for all buildings, everything still breaks down with annoying alacrity. This becomes more of an issue the longer you play, as the time for objectives to complete stretches out into hours, and you'll probably wish you had more to keep you busy. Not that watching your itty-bitty populace zip around and numbers pop up all over the screen isn't... perplexingly hypnotizing...

It's sort of the ultimate casual simulation, then, where its appeal comes from its gorgeous pixel style and artwork, and its vibrant sense of humour. Puns are everywhere, as are pop culture references, and the game's style and presentation are simply top notch. The amount of detail gone into rendering the architecture is amazing, and it makes you wish you could, say, tap on a building to zoom in and see what's going on inside it. The longer you play, the more you'll find yourself struggling to make the most of your space, though happily the game doesn't charge you anything to move and reorganise your city's establishments whenever you feel like it. If you find yourself tempted to pay for more Utopium, you'll be pleased to find you never feel pressured to do so, and the spending feels remarkably balanced, especially given how fast you earn cash. As a result, it's absolutely perfect, relaxing, virtual fishbowl style gaming that brings out the big guns when it comes to charm and style. There really need to be more bright, cheerful casual games out there that fit in your pocket, and even when more eventually come our way, there's no doubt that Pixel People will remain one of the brightest. Walkthrough Guide, Hints and Tips

General Information
If you're new to Pixel People, read this first:

  1. Your first encounter with the Pixel people will be at the Arrival Center as the Mechanic welcomes the Mayor .

  2. You will be shown Utopia and what you will need to build up to make your place in the sky.

  3. Your first task will be to build a residence for your new clones to live.

  4. Starting with your first building venture, you must choose where you wish to place it.

  5. The placement is not absolutely critical because you will have the option to move what you have built to other locations without cost or penalty, and at any time you wish.

  6. Once you have a place for your clones to live, you can begin your venture.

  7. All of your clones are called Tabula Rasa (as a blank slate), so when a clone arrives, you can select "Splice Me" to create a clone with a profession.

  8. Your first choice will be to select the Mayor and Mechanic as genetic material to clone a new worker who will become an Engineer.

  9. Now that you have a new clone, you will need to construct a place for him to work.

  10. Once you have a workplace for him, choose to place him there.

  11. When you start the game, you have option choices as to whether you wish to hear the music and sound. If you wish to change these options later, you can find the a 'Settings' menu in the Town Hall.

Scene Navigation

  • On the upper bar, the plus sign allows you to shop for more Utopium (referred to as U's in this guide) and Coins.

  • The next number shows how much Utopium you currently have, and the numbers in the middle of the upper bar show how many clones you have.

  • The upper right corner displays your Coin collection.

  • The lower bar gives up the most recent news for Utopia, and the lower right corner displays your Land Watch.

  • Pay attention to your land usage because you want to expand before your current land runs out.

Creating New Clones and Jobs

  1. New clones are available at the Arrival Center and jobs are created by splicing existing clones.

  2. New clones take varying times to arrive when there is space for them at the Arrival Center.

  3. You will need to house your new clones, so you will sometimes be told that you need to create more homes for them to stay before you can create more jobs.

  4. You can also click on existing buildings to see what new jobs are needed there, and you will be given a formula for their creation.

  5. If you have trouble accessing the exact building you want, tap the lower corner.

  6. Sometimes you will be asked to pay U's to get the formula, but all you need to do is check our walkthrough for the information you need because the U's are more important for other things.

  7. To create a new job, select "Splice Me" and then what genetic material you wish to use.

  8. Genes that can create brand new discoveries appear brighter in the gene banks.

  9. The genetic material is listed by job category, so select a job from each column and then note the color of the test tube.

  10. Gray means your splice won't work, yellow means you've found it before, and pink means you should go for it.

  11. If you choose a yellow combo, you can later reverse it, turning it back into an unspliced clone.

  12. Once you have created a new job, you will get a "Eureka Screen" that tells you that there is a new job created, and you may then need to create a building for the new job.

  13. Slide across the "cut here to open" line to continue with the game, and click on the new clone to select a workplace to start his or her job.

  14. Some splices take longer than others so you have a choice of speeding things up by spending U's or to just be patient.

  15. If you see a notification when you are splicing that you need to have a certain amount of land available, that means that you will be required to build the worker a new building for that profession.

Residences

  • There are 6 residences that become available during the game, and each takes up varying amounts of land and houses 2 to 6 clones.

  • To build a residence, select the land, tap on build and residential, select the residence, confirm the build location, and construction will begin.

  • Construction takes varying times, so if you check on construction, you are given your choice of spending U's to speed up the process.

    • Rocky Mansions: Land Cost: 1, Capacity: 2, Cost: 5,000 Coins, Build Time: 2 minutes.

    • Terra Terrace: Land Cost: 2, Capacity: 4, Cost: 12,000 Coins, Build Time: 4 minutes.

    • Solar Nexus: Land Cost: 3, Capacity: 6, Cost: 20,000 Coins, Build Time: 8 minutes.

    • Atomic Cottage: Land Cost: 1, Capacity: 4, Cost: 30,000 Coins and 3U's, Build Time: 2 hours, and it is unlocked at 60 land.

    • Heavenly House: Land Cost: 3, Capacity: 6, Cost: 60,000 Coins and 3U's.

    • Build Time: 3 hours, and it is unlocked at 60 land.

    • Shiny Tower: Land Cost: 1, Capacity: 6, Cost: 200,000 Coins and 6U's,
      Build Time: 1 day, and it is unlocked at 110 land.

Arrival Center

  • Your Arrival Center is one of the most important buildings on your floating world.

  • If you feel something has gone wrong and it is in need of repair, press the maintenance button, and then repair to make certain all systems are good to go.

Landscaping

  • Selecting Building gives you a choice to actually build something, decide to landscape what you have already built, or expand your sky island.

  • Under Landscaping, you get the option to extend your roads, build paths, and a number of other nature pleasing options.

  • Paths cost 1,000 each, and you can build several paths at the same time by tapping multiple locations before confirming.

  • Paths can be roadways built on ultra-light astro-glass that don't count towards your land limit, and waterways also built on astro-glass with no land tax.

  • Trees cost 1U each and come in the following varieties: Andromeda Oak, Dimension Tree, Jupiter Juniper, Mercurial Olive, Parsec Palm, Plutonian Pine, and Sunny Spruce.

  • Decor is available in numerous varieties and will cost you either coins or U's.

  • Decor increases your city's Spirit so each Spirit point will get you a 1% discount on Expansion cost, as well as a half of a percent discount on Arrival and Construction times.

  • To find out the exact cost and Spirit points for each Decor, tap anywhere and select Decor under the Landscape heading.

Love is in the Air

  • If you see a heart on top of one of your residences, tap on it and then hold it when you see the next heart inside until you receive a message.

  • There are 11 hearts at the top of the screen underneath the bar, and once you fill them up, you will received a special delivery, such as an animal, coins, or U's.

  • You can reduce the number of hearts needed for the special delivery by buying special research at the Research Lab for 10U each.

Coins

  • Buildings generate income so make sure they are all producing coins by tapping the little blue lightning squares that appear above them.

  • Expansion gets more expensive as the game continues so coin collection is especially important.

  • There are 3 sections of Trees that also produce coins, and occasionally some U's, so tap the little green sun squares to collect your reward.

  • There is a city-wide collection limit on U's of 25 per day.

  • Try to fill up your buildings with all the workers they need because fully occupied buildings produce twice as many coins (once you build a Bank).

I don't know if you can answer this, but I hope you can. Somehow I lost my arrival center and can't find any way to rebuild it. The game is no use without it. Do you have any ideas? Thanks.

Lost it?! How did you do that? Are you sure you lost it? Is it perhaps offscreen somewhere from merely moving it? There's no delete button in the Arrival Center, so I find it difficult to believe that it's gone and inaccessible.

If, however, it is no where to be found, then you may have to restart the game. Have you tried contacting the developer?

Pixel People Strategy Guide

Walkthrough Guide, Hints and Tips

General Information
If you're new to Pixel People, read this first:

  1. Your first encounter with the Pixel people will be at the Arrival Center as the Mechanic welcomes the Mayor .

  2. You will be shown Utopia and what you will need to build up to make your place in the sky.

  3. Your first task will be to build a residence for your new clones to live.

  4. Starting with your first building venture, you must choose where you wish to place it.

  5. The placement is not absolutely critical because you will have the option to move what you have built to other locations without cost or penalty, and at any time you wish.

  6. Once you have a place for your clones to live, you can begin your venture.

  7. All of your clones are called Tabula Rasa (as a blank slate), so when a clone arrives, you can select "Splice Me" to create a clone with a profession.

  8. Your first choice will be to select the Mayor and Mechanic as genetic material to clone a new worker who will become an Engineer.

  9. Now that you have a new clone, you will need to construct a place for him to work.

  10. Once you have a workplace for him, choose to place him there.

  11. When you start the game, you have option choices as to whether you wish to hear the music and sound. If you wish to change these options later, you can find the a 'Settings' menu in the Town Hall.

Scene Navigation

  • On the upper bar, the plus sign allows you to shop for more Utopium (referred to as U's in this guide) and Coins.

  • The next number shows how much Utopium you currently have, and the numbers in the middle of the upper bar show how many clones you have.

  • The upper right corner displays your Coin collection.

  • The lower bar gives up the most recent news for Utopia, and the lower right corner displays your Land Watch.

  • Pay attention to your land usage because you want to expand before your current land runs out.

Creating New Clones and Jobs

  1. New clones are available at the Arrival Center and jobs are created by splicing existing clones.

  2. New clones take varying times to arrive when there is space for them at the Arrival Center.

  3. You will need to house your new clones, so you will sometimes be told that you need to create more homes for them to stay before you can create more jobs.

  4. You can also click on existing buildings to see what new jobs are needed there, and you will be given a formula for their creation.

  5. If you have trouble accessing the exact building you want, tap the lower corner.

  6. Sometimes you will be asked to pay U's to get the formula, but all you need to do is check our walkthrough for the information you need because the U's are more important for other things.

  7. To create a new job, select "Splice Me" and then what genetic material you wish to use.

  8. Genes that can create brand new discoveries appear brighter in the gene banks.

  9. The genetic material is listed by job category, so select a job from each column and then note the color of the test tube.

  10. Gray means your splice won't work, yellow means you've found it before, and pink means you should go for it.

  11. If you choose a yellow combo, you can later reverse it, turning it back into an unspliced clone.

  12. Once you have created a new job, you will get a "Eureka Screen" that tells you that there is a new job created, and you may then need to create a building for the new job.

  13. Slide across the "cut here to open" line to continue with the game, and click on the new clone to select a workplace to start his or her job.

  14. Some splices take longer than others so you have a choice of speeding things up by spending U's or to just be patient.

  15. If you see a notification when you are splicing that you need to have a certain amount of land available, that means that you will be required to build the worker a new building for that profession.

Residences

  • There are 6 residences that become available during the game, and each takes up varying amounts of land and houses 2 to 6 clones.

  • To build a residence, select the land, tap on build and residential, select the residence, confirm the build location, and construction will begin.

  • Construction takes varying times, so if you check on construction, you are given your choice of spending U's to speed up the process.

    • Rocky Mansions: Land Cost: 1, Capacity: 2, Cost: 5,000 Coins, Build Time: 2 minutes.

    • Terra Terrace: Land Cost: 2, Capacity: 4, Cost: 12,000 Coins, Build Time: 4 minutes.

    • Solar Nexus: Land Cost: 3, Capacity: 6, Cost: 20,000 Coins, Build Time: 8 minutes.

    • Atomic Cottage: Land Cost: 1, Capacity: 4, Cost: 30,000 Coins and 3U's, Build Time: 2 hours, and it is unlocked at 60 land.

    • Heavenly House: Land Cost: 3, Capacity: 6, Cost: 60,000 Coins and 3U's.

    • Build Time: 3 hours, and it is unlocked at 60 land.

    • Shiny Tower: Land Cost: 1, Capacity: 6, Cost: 200,000 Coins and 6U's,
      Build Time: 1 day, and it is unlocked at 110 land.

Arrival Center

  • Your Arrival Center is one of the most important buildings on your floating world.

  • If you feel something has gone wrong and it is in need of repair, press the maintenance button, and then repair to make certain all systems are good to go.

Landscaping

  • Selecting Building gives you a choice to actually build something, decide to landscape what you have already built, or expand your sky island.

  • Under Landscaping, you get the option to extend your roads, build paths, and a number of other nature pleasing options.

  • Paths cost 1,000 each, and you can build several paths at the same time by tapping multiple locations before confirming.

  • Paths can be roadways built on ultra-light astro-glass that don't count towards your land limit, and waterways also built on astro-glass with no land tax.

  • Trees cost 1U each and come in the following varieties: Andromeda Oak, Dimension Tree, Jupiter Juniper, Mercurial Olive, Parsec Palm, Plutonian Pine, and Sunny Spruce.

  • Decor is available in numerous varieties and will cost you either coins or U's.

  • Decor increases your city's Spirit so each Spirit point will get you a 1% discount on Expansion cost, as well as a half of a percent discount on Arrival and Construction times.

  • To find out the exact cost and Spirit points for each Decor, tap anywhere and select Decor under the Landscape heading.

Love is in the Air

  • If you see a heart on top of one of your residences, tap on it and then hold it when you see the next heart inside until you receive a message.

  • There are 11 hearts at the top of the screen underneath the bar, and once you fill them up, you will received a special delivery, such as an animal, coins, or U's.

  • You can reduce the number of hearts needed for the special delivery by buying special research at the Research Lab for 10U each.

Coins

  • Buildings generate income so make sure they are all producing coins by tapping the little blue lightning squares that appear above them.

  • Expansion gets more expensive as the game continues so coin collection is especially important.

  • There are 3 sections of Trees that also produce coins, and occasionally some U's, so tap the little green sun squares to collect your reward.

  • There is a city-wide collection limit on U's of 25 per day.

  • Try to fill up your buildings with all the workers they need because fully occupied buildings produce twice as many coins (once you build a Bank).

Make sure to visit your buildings, you might find some of them useful.
Here's what I've found so far...

  • Sheriff's Office - search most wanted list (credits) to find rewards (I've only found rewards the first time looking through so far. You must look at each person individually to find if they have a reward (in top left corner).

  • Police Station - view achievements and collect rewards from them.

  • Utopium Mine - once daily collect utopium findings.

  • Bank - fully occupied buildings will now produce double CPS.

  • Law Firm - expand land by spending 40 Utopium.

  • Building Firm - unlocks ability to replicate and delete buildings.

  • Enterprise - one time purchase (real money needed) to make all buildings work twice as long.

  • Park - unlocks decor construction.

  • Business Center - view how many coins per second you are making.

  • Research Lab - spend utopium to permanently fill one heart (hearts, collected from houses, are needed for special deliveries. You start out needing 11). First permanent heart costs 10u, second costs 20u, third costs 30u, fourth costs 40u, etc. Utopium doesn't grow on trees you know... Oh wait, it does ;)

  • Museum - view achievements and collect rewards from them.

  • Observatory - locate your town in a different part of space (changes space background at no cost).

  • Astro Church - "donate" 8 Utopium to receive 1 block of land.

  • Fortune Teller - daily divination. Gives one gene/splice recipe a day.

This game is highly addicting up to a point where you kill almost 24 hours on it as it requires constant check-ins to for an optimum play. I wonder what are the animals for besides collecting. Anyway, hope they fix some bugs and add more pixel people on a future update. 66 pixel people to go!

Anyone have any suggestions for how to delete one's progress in the game and start over? I've already deleted the game from my iPod and reinstalled it, thinking it would delete my info from iCloud, but when I reinstalled the game, it just loaded back up again as before.

Love this game so much and I have no idea why. It's so slow and repetitive. Spent hours and days building my Utopia and making it aesthetically pleasing. I was at 112 people with 10 mil on hand when I deleted the app.

I must've been crazy to download it in the first place. A full-time college student with a full-time job virtually has no time to spare. The aftermath was a mixture of horror and relief. First: What the hell did I just do?! and then, second: Pixel People is temptation and temptation is a roadblock on the path to achievement of true nirvana.

I shall miss it.

hey guys i reset my games because didn't know that we couldn't delete residential houses and i had too many low class houses. Do you guys know/remember when the atomic cottage is available?
i read everywhere that it's unlocked when we have 60 lands. I have 60 lands now, but still unavailable. Is there any other requirements for that? like certain clones, building? since i only discovered 8/155

never mind guys. i found out that it's actually 70 lands, not 60. i reset the game again, convert the whole 25U to get 500.000, upgrade to 70 lands straightaway and start buying atomic cottage without wasting any space. i think it's going to be a great start. next i just need to things normally and wait until i get shiny towers :)

I believe the Mutant gene comes at the very end, when nearing 150 jobs.

As for the Romantic gene, you will need the update (v1.1) for that. Maybe you need to get the first 150 first? Have you filled all the hearts since updating to the latest version?

I had found all 150 jobs when I updated to v1.1, and the first time I filled the hearts I got the new gene, so that would make sense.

Hang in there, you're almost there! :)

By the way, I'm still playing this game, trying to get all the animals. I've just 3 more maroon-tier animals yet to find... they're extremely rare!

My friend showed me that in his town, his residents and the animals he's unlocked will roam around. How come my residents and animals don't wander around my town like in my friend's game?

Don't know if anyone can help
I have gotten 150/155 of the jobs and the last splice I made was

the mutant with another job to get the alter

...but now I can't splice anymore clones to make more people. I've tried contacting the company that made the game with no response and I installed the newest update. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how do I fix it?

Have you tried filling all the hearts to get a surprise? The next special gene is delivered that way.

If you have and you're still not getting it, try going back to the Home screen, then double tap the Home button to show all the apps running in the background. Press and hold on Pixel People and tap the (-) minus sign to close it down. Then launch the app again and fill all the hearts again. Hopefully you'll get it.

Hi, I have the same problem as Ninja Lava!! I am at 150/155, updated with 1.1 and 1.2, I have reset game, I have rebooted iPhone etcetc I have contacted Chillingo (no response yet)!! It is soooo frustrating - all I am doing is stockpiling money and animals and is getting MEGA boring!! Please Help my clones find love!!!

Hi,
If you want to vacate a building go to the building, select a pixel person then send them on vacation. It will cost 1U. Once you send all of them on vacation you can delete the building. To bring them back go to the hotel (make sure you have one first!) and resend them out to work. You might even get your 1U back! Make sure you have enough room for them before you send them on vacation.

Hi guys, I think I have found a glitch that's worrying me... I have tried to make my original mechanic go into vacation in Hotel Utopia. It wouldn't go (that is, it would not leave its original residence), so I tried a few times.
It still would not go in vacation, however, I have three mechanics filling up rooms in my hotel, and I cannot remove them from there. Since the mechanic never went into vacation, I cannot fill its spot in the residence, and he's already at work. When I tried to delete them from the hotel, I receive a message stating that original genes cannot be deleted.

Any ideas?

If your stuck in the game it would be easier to download Job Guide for Pixel People on iTunes. It's a companion app that has all of Pixel People professions. Otherwise it can take a while to unlock secret jobs.

It's been a while since I played the game, but you need to have paths available before you can landscape and create decor. Then it should work. You didn't say how far you were into the game so can't tell you if it's a glitch or not. If you can share more info, maybe we can help you. Otherwise, you may need to report the problem to the developer.

Ever since the latest update, I haven't been able to see my clones. When I click at the top, the game closes! I have 322/365 clones and don't want to lose them. Has anyone else run into the same problem? I've notified Chillingo, but have not received a response!

I have received a iTunes gift card and I am saving it to buy utopium but not till the best deal is on sale for double the utopium, does anyone know when they'll go on sale again? Before I got the gift card it seemed like that best deal for double(2000) utopiums was on sale every other day, now that I have the card I check everyday but nope! I am so addicted to this game and I love it, I have over 300 professions and can't wait to discover it all, but I hope future updates are swift cuz I won't have anything new to do, but I still love it! A new update just hit on the 12th which includes some bug fixes which might solve Luckypnut's problem. The upgrade also adds a cool Mayor statue and 48 hours of bonuses and perks if you download it before March 19.

Does anyone have any tips for splicing secret jobs / animals?

I can't even get one secret job. I'm focusing on the first one on the Secret Hideout's list, "Catcher". It stands to reason that one of the ingredients is Baseballer, but I've tried everything that makes sense for the other to no avail.

As for secret animals, I've been able to guess a few, but Cerberus has me stumped-- and I need it for a mission. I can't even guess one ingredient!

The walkthroughs make no mention of secret jobs OR secret animals. Like the detectives whose toilet got stolen, I have nothing to go on.
