Haha I like it. Will others get it?

While I don't really get the joke - I do like the detail of the newspaper. The headline reads "Corley Motors CEO Dead", which is a reference to "Full Throttle".

That fencepost with the face on it... I've seen that face somewhere before...

Heh, Monkey Island!

Amazing!

And the fence post face is from Grim Fandango, one of Lucas Arts other games.

Who's that in the right window? And hiding behind the tree thing on the left?

Great comic as per ususal!

In the window is the Purple Tentacle, from Day of the Tentacle.

Behind the tree looks like a person in a spacesuit, maybe a reference to The Dig?

Heh, and the newspaper headline reads "Corley Motors CEO dead". Damn, now I feel the urge to play "Full Throttle". Again. =D

That has to be the most hidden joke that appeared in Babylon Sticks comic to date.

There's also a face in the left corner of the police car's windshield.

Yes, I noticed that face, and after looking through the games that used the SCUMM engine I think it's a reference to Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis - it looks a lot like the face on the package.

Ah. Never would've guessed it was Tales of Monkey Island.

Theres a possible Sam and Max: Freelance Police reference in the paper sticking out of the mailbox :o and... a two-headed squirrel on the roof? Or is that just two squirrels?

Poor, kleptomaniac Guybrush, great joke (what I don't get is people who don't get it).
Thank you very much James, this made my day, nice "scumm" (as in "source code used in maniac mansion") reference.

The guy in the house window is from Day of the Tentacle...

I don't get it.

On the upside, though, this is only the first comic I haven't "gotten", so my opinion of the series remains unchanged. :-)

Okay, so it's pointing out the strangeness of adventure games like Monkey Island. It's making an observation. But it's not making a joke about it. Would it be funny if a stand-up comedian went on the stage and said, "You ever notice how weird it is that nobody cares when Guybrush Threepwood starts taking people's stuff?" No, because he's not making a joke. And that's why this comic is so unfunny. Observations everywhere, but not a joke to be found.

There's a squirrel on the roof!! Run!

(See the carnivorous squirrels from Legend of Kyrandia. Damn, I miss having a computer that can run the third game in the series...)

@Anonymous: This is what's known as "deconstructive humor" (actually, I just made up that name, but you get the point). The humor lies in taking a certain cliché (in this case, the kleptomaniac tendencies of many adventure game heroes) and eliciting yuks by taking it to its logical conclusion and showing how it would play out in the real world.

To those too lazy to go there:

"Now, being a Lucasarts-based strip, I couldn't help but fill it with references to most of the company's adventure game series. In fact, all of them except Labyrinth. Inside the car is the mask from Indiana Jones & The Fate Of Atlantis; the newspaper headline is a reference to Full Throttle; the mailbox has a flyer for Sam & Max; inside the window you can see characters from Day Of The Tentacle and Loom; the two-headed squirrel on the roof is from Zak McKracken & The Alien Mindbenders; the guy in the space suit is The Dig and on the wood fence you can see the face of Manny from Grim Fandango."

The spaceman is behind the tree/tall bush on the left, for those who missed him.

I love monkey island!

I didn't get it before I read the comments, I just haven't played those games.. I enjoy looking at the images while reading what people say though :) .
