Plants vs. Zombies (iPhone)

Think you finally kicked your Plants vs. Zombies habit? You are so wrong. Just released on the iTunes App Store: PopCap's crazy-awesome casual defense game Plants vs. Zombies. It's got all the cherry bombing, squash pounding, sunflower sprouting, zombie dispatching wildness of the original PC/Mac download, now in the palms of your hands. A very dangerous thing if, you know, you've got work to do.
Plants vs. Zombies for the iPhone plays just like it's larger cousin. Zombies of all types pour in from the right side of the screen. Using collected bits of sun as currency, you must buy and place various plants around the yard to stave off the groaning hordes. Pea shooters are your first mode of attack, but soon you get wheelbarrows full of interesting things to use in offensive, defensive, and strategic ways. The zombies get more creative, too, with a few wearing protective gear or doing really wacky things (like driving zamboni machines) to get past your defenses. And then there are night time levels, tracts of water to deal with, fog, and stages that take place on the roof!
The iPhone port manages to pack in all 50 levels from the original game and includes the unlockable quick play option, but a few things have been shuffled around. The seed icons, for starters, have been moved to the left side of the screen, along with a few other minor interface changes. Fingers tend to be a bit pudgier than a mouse cursor, after all. Notably missing are endless mode and the zen garden, which is a shame, as they added a lot of replay value and made Plants vs. Zombies shine a little brighter.

Even though it's lacking a few modes, Plants vs. Zombies has made a phenomenal transition to the mobile platform. The charming visuals, fluid animations, and quirky humor of the original game are perfectly intact, creating that same "OMG MUST PLAY MORE" feeling all over again.

I've downloaded it yesterday evening, I began playing it and at 3am I was still at it... now all sleepy and unproductive... damn zombies! ;)
Also snagged it yesterday. It's a very nicely done port. I found it much easier to play than the PC version - as I use a trackball the fast hunt/click mechanism was awkward but the touchscreen ui works a treat. If anything, its a little *too* easy though.
Plus Achievements!! That go all the way to China!
im really dissapointed that they took out endless mode. the modes now are way too easy and boring. i like tower defense games because they usually give me a chance to play one stage endlessly until i die. it really builds up my skill and strategy. i played a crapload of endless mode on the pc version and it would have been perfect if endless mode was included. i was fine with it not having the garden or those mini games but not having endless mode really killed the mood for me. those acheivements on there looks to be hard but trying to replay those easy stages are just gonna annoy me. i had it for a day and already finished the game. no replayability here. im definitely not replaying a thousands quick plays so i can get enough money to buy stuff. at least i can accumulate a decent amount of money in endless mode and actually make use of the coin collecting magnet. i totally wasted my money on that thinking there was a stage i can use it on.
Wow... I love a port that shines almost brighter than the original with the ability to manage everything with the touch of a finger as opposed to the maneuvering of a mouse... and it's so wonderfully portable!
My two must app of the year are This American Life and Plants Vs. Zombies!
I saw the title of this and immediately thought: Oh no...
I loved the original, and it is terrifying to think that I may have to go through that massive loss of time again.
I got this game today and i really like it. As for sdsviet read about games BEFORE you buy them! Why didn't you think like that.
Really good game anyways. Good job Popcap!
Fantastic app! Sadly though, I have to agree with sdsviet... not including endless play is seriously amiss in the release... The levels aren't long enough to get especially creative with your plants. I'm just crossing my fingers for an update to add endless play... the touchscreen ui is just so intuitive and revolutionary to the gameplay that I just can't go back to the pc version :(
Best. Game. Ever.
And have you seen the iPad version. Oh my good heavens. I need the iPad JUST FOR THIS GAME!
i've played the game through numerous times and have all the items from dave's shop, but it shows a 10 slot option for 80,000 (i have well over that amount of money) but it says sold out....is there any way to buy it? please respond, thanks!
@andy: You've already bought it, DUH...
=)
I cant wait to get an iPod for my birthday. This is likely the first game i'll get. To bad there's no endless mode, but at least many of the minigames are still there.
