Factory Balls 3

grinnypFactory Balls 3Factory Balls is back! The original Factory Balls was an entry in our Casual Gameplay Design Competition #4 and was so popular it spawned a sequel, Factory Balls 2. Now Bart Bonte has returned with Factory Balls 3, more wicked ways to waste time attempting to paint small white balls to factory spec while a throbbing beat plays in the background.

The premise of this charming little puzzle game seems pretty simple (the operative word here being seems. You start with a rotating cog full of little white balls. Before you on the screen are tools ranging from cans of paint to belts, masks, glasses, plungers, screwdrivers, and other tools that you can use to make one little white ball match the picture on the box below. You must, in fact, match the picture in order for the ball to drop from the screen and move you to the next level. Easy, yes?

Well, sort of easy, at least in the early levels. At first all you need to do is reproduce paint patterns on the balls, then you move on to more advanced fare; such as using seeds to make balls covered in flowers or grass, creating much more elaborate and geometric patterns, or using other tools to turn your little balls into cutesy animals like bunnies and pigs. Look at the end design very closely before you begin. It is imperative that you think before you act and plan out the order of your moves very carefully, otherwise you may have to trash your work and start over from the beginning.

It's hard to go wrong with a Bart Bonte game. Everything Bart produces is tons of fun and Factory Balls 3 is no exception. With its cutesy visuals and kicking soundtrack, Factory Balls 3 is one of the best time wasters around. With 30 levels of decorating madness, the casual gamer will find themselves absorbed in this strange, twisted little world where plungers are used to make ears and noses, and surgical masks are a fantastic tool for creating layers of color. Come; be assimilated and join us in the twisted little world that is Factory Balls 3. One of us, one of us, one of us...

Brilliant again, I love the ball series anyone got past level 19 yet?

kowalaa - Yes, I've completed them all in one go. Here's level 19:

Paint it black, put on the little glasses, then scrape the paint off. Put the big glasses on, paint it black. Pop the ears both out once. Then paint it red, and take glasses off.

Here's the end bracket, for obsessive people like me.)

I'm stuck on level 24. I almost have it, I think, but I can't get the circle to come out right. Any hints?

Kana:

Keep the blue bit covered with the small headphones at all times. As long as that stays protected, it's just a matter of dipping it and covering with the hardhat.

I just cannot do Level 25. All the others have been logical to me, except this one.

level 25 is really annoying... any idea?

Tip to 25:

Remember that flower seeds, when watered too many times, will die out completely leaving no trace behind (unlike grass seeds which stays around yellowed if watered too much).

(level 25)

flower seed, hat on, water, hat off, grass seed, hat on, blue ink, hat off, water, water

A hint for 25:

watering flowers 3 times total removes them from the ball. With the protection you have, knowing that, the solution becomes easier to see.

For 25,

Put flower seeds on the ball. Cover it with the hardhat, then use water until the lower flowers die. Put down grass seed and use the blue plant-coloring on it. Finally, put more grass seed on the ball and water it until you pass the stage.

Level 25

Use ball on flowers. Put on yellow cap. Water three times till the flowers at the bottom half die. Put on blue ink. Take off hat. Put on grass seeds. Water twice.

level 25

the blue dye works like this - plant the grass seed, use the dye, and water. The grass will grow blue.

Still stuck?

There aren't any flowers on the bottom. Plant flowers, cover with the hat, and water until the lower half dies. Now plant grass, use the eyedropper, take off the hat and water

Dang I'm really having trouble conceptualizing what I need to do on Level 26.

I'm going in circles on level 28 and getting dizzy...hint please?

Lovely little game! (as is Factory Balls 1&2). Ball number 25 was a bit tricky, otherwise not too difficult just need some patience. And the ability of mental image rotation.
Looks good, plays nice and gives the brain a light snack...

Did I miss it, or is there no way to get back to the main menu once you started?

argyblarg: If you pause the game and click to start it again, it will take you to the menu.

26:

There may be an easier way, but the best thing to do is dip into a color, put on the mask, dip into the other color, rotate 90 degrees, mask again, the first color, and so on. Repeat until you get the orientation you need.

28:

Remember the hints given for 25: Flowers die with 3 waterings and can be replanted; grass stays brown forever after 3 waterings.

Need more?

Plant flowers
Cover with hat
Water the ball and kill the flowers on the bottom half
Remove hat
Cover the right half
Water the ball (upper-left flowers sprout)
Remove cover
Plant grass
Water once (grass is light green, upper-right flowers sprout, upper-left flowers bloom)
Cover the left half
Water again (right-half grass is darker, upper-right flowers bloom)
Cover the top
Water again (bottom-left grass is darker, bottom-right grass dies)

Done :)

Addendum to 28:

After watering the right-half of the grass/flower-covered ball, remove the cover before putting on the hat.

YES! I love Factory Balls #1 and #2 so much I actually did a search for "Factory Balls 3" last-week-or-there-abouts, and ended up replaying them anyway - and now #3 really has turned up! I'm saving it for the weekend! ^_^

Is it just me or does the face mask tool behave differently in one of the later levels? Otherwise excellent.

Or maybe I should say "earlier levels". I should beat the game before talking.

This is a very fun craft of Bart!

I love Factory Balls #1 and #2 but this one is AWESOME (a little bit hard but it's nothing)
:)

anyone lvl five?

Dunno if it's just me, but it felt really easy compared to Factory Balls 2. Still, it was a blast to play, as usual. Great job and thanks to Bart for letting us have our Factory Balls fix =)

(Oh, and on the end screen, sit and watch the ticker at the bottom for a while.)

Yay!! Iwas just about to replay one of the first Factory Balls games when I found this! It's awesome! *does a dance*

Anyone got level 29? I finally got past the other part I was stuck on through random clicking. I hope I don't have to do that here.

I absolutely love this series, it's just the right combination of simple and intriguing to create a fun challenge.

Does anyone have a tip for level 29? I keep getting stuck.

Haven't played it yet but I JUST replayed the others in this series the other day and was thinking 'I wish a new one of these would come out I love playing with balls!'

Kana and JIGuest:
Below is the answer if you are truly stumped, in order from left(1) to the recycle bin (8):

4,1,2,5,2,4,2,1,4,5,4,2,3,5,4,1,4,3

I love this series! I actually did a little jig in my chair when I saw this pop up on my feed reader.

A treat as always, but it's far too short. I got through all thirty levels in about ten minutes. There really needs to be a puzzle maker for this game. There's so many tools that we can use, and I'm sure that people could come up with some truly fiendish puzzles with them.

Next time, maybe?

Excellent! The spin feature made some of the levels a good challenge.

This game BEGS for player contributed levels. Just BEGS for it.

The best one yet in my opinion! I love that he is able to find even more ways to taunt you with little more than balls and paint. Some of the grass levels are particularly nasty. Additionally, I love that there is no ball limit (can't remember if that was fixed in number 2 or not) because some of the mechanics are just plain not explained, you just have to do them. Love it!

That was fun!

I always enjoy Bart Bonte's games. There's something about them that reminds me of the simpler days of Flash gaming, before everything got all professional-gaming-studio-like and what-not.

That's not to say that his games aren't professional, but instead that they have a simple directness to them. Plus, I always enjoy games where you feel like you "get to know" the developer, like Tonypa's games and other single- or small- developers.

Thanks again, Bart!

For those who are asking for a level builder, the long scrolling text gives a (partial) explanation as to why he doesn't.

The issue is that there are a lot of combinations or components, and he hasn't necessarily designed the graphics or mechanics for a lot of the combinations. It's no problem for the developer: if he needs a new combination for the game, he adds it.

But what happens if someone decides to have blue grass with flowers rotated 45° and a nose plunged out, rotates 90° and then takes an Ax to the result? It's not a real 3D model, and there isn't necessarily a graphic for a 1/4 notched blue-grass flowered nose (depth=1).

I can see his point, but I have an idea: He might think about is having user levels that have to choose a set of tools ahead of time. IE: start with a "Gardening", "Animal" (plungers & glasses), "Eyeball" (?) (headphones), or "Stripes-and-Colors" template. This gives a limited number of tools that the user can work with, and significantly reducing the combinations.

There's also no reason that all devices need be available on user levels.

Then you can pick which tools you want (has to fit in the bubbles), then make your ball using the existing interface. Finally, click a button when you are done. Then the user-based code just needs to store which buckets, and the final result. I don't know how he currently stores this, however, and that might be tricky.

One slight issue with the walkthrough: maybe it's my browser (latest Firefox), but because there aren't any spaces, the instructions go off forever and I can't see them for some of the longer ones, like 26 in particular. So please, if possible, put spaces in to break things up?

Thanks.

Way more fun than I would've thought, and thoroughly addicting. Loved it!

loved the first two, and this one (if possible) is even better

i WON!!!! it's easy really but i kinda got stumped on level 25, that one was a bit hard, anyways it's a really fun game, the whole series is. great job! :D

i would like to see it so you could make any balls you like then play around with them, but it would take along tme to get all the peices to do stuff together, :/

Awesome, awesome, awesome. This is one of my favorite series of games, and I was so glad to see a 3rd! I only wish they were longer!

I was really glad to see that I could recycle balls this time. The grass levels are really tricky and it usually takes me several tries to get them right!

For 19, following the walkthrough exactly didn't work, it left the ears white because the scraper removed the paint on them, too.

I had to dunk it in black, then use the small glasses, then the scraper, then swap the little glasses for the big glasses, then dunk the whole thing in black, then use the plungers, then dunk it in red and take the big glasses off. (Just confirmed it by trying exactly this twice.)

Thanks Sarah :)
I found the walkthrough for 19 didn't work for me either.

Level 19 walkthrough didn't work, the ears weren't the right colour. x

An easyer way to do lvl 30:
1,4,2,4,5,5,5,5,4,3,2,3,4,5,5,5
