Ah, the intriguing, maddening, URL-changing riddle game. I love thee, I loathe thee....I generally find myself stumped by level 13 of, um, thee. On the one hand I adore the enigmatic, sometimes surreal nature of the genre, as well as the astonishing creativity of the potential puzzling; on the other, the strict format and occasionally absurd leaps of "logic" necessary to find the answers can be seriously irritating. At their best, URL-changers are wonderful, mentally stimulating journeys; at their worst, migraines in the making.
The N riddle game is somewhere in-between. I really like the minimalist design (black and white never go out of style) and simple, straightforward presentation of the puzzles. The first few levels are encouragingly easy and serve as a makeshift tutorial for the new player; soon, a comfortable rhythm of gradually increasing difficulty and clever puzzling has been established. But then...BLAM! A level whose answer makes no sense at all. At least not to me. So then, with the help of a magical puzzle genie (or, *cough*, a walkthrough), you find the solution. And you go on, and you're lulled into a sense of security with a few nicely thought-out levels....BLAM! It happens again! It's a real roller-coaster ride, folks.
It's really too bad, too, because about 80% of N is a lot of fun. Still, perhaps the 20% that I find aggravatingly difficult will be cotton candy and fairy dust to you. Prove me wrong. Seriously, please prove me wrong. Level 17 is driving me batty. Play N Riddle Game.

And where would we find said walkthrough? I'm stuck on "sept".
That's where I got stuck when I played, too. I'll just tell you the answer because I don't think many people would figure it out:

And please, let's not link to an external walkthrough, but rather create one here for this site. ;)
I'm new to this type of game but I've made it to the clue "110" and now I'm stumped.
Same place I was stuck, thanks.
I still don't see the connection, but I'll soldier on :-)
macaaroni - think

Yeah, the answer for level 13 is really impossible to figure out. :x Oh, and Shostie, a hint:

The correct answer to get to the one after 'sept', is:

Anyone no the one after level 12?
macaaroni :What type of language uses 1's and 0's?
macaaroni:

I'm an idiot. But "sept"... I see the spoiler up there but how does that make any sense? Jess was right, intriguing and then, forget it! There's a reason I've avoided these types of games.
Oops, I gave the wrong answer for "sept" above, I'll fix it.
For level 13:

Hmm, I'm stuck on

Okay, I am really not good at these types of games. I am stuck on level 2.
Drewski:

how do you get past the level after TEN?
I think you skipped a few there as the page for your spoiler seems to be for the 14th page, not the 8th. I'm not sure how it means 14 anyway, but still.
And I'm assuming you mean you are on level 17 wanting to go to 18,

what's wrong with ten? there's nothing written on the page
does anyone have passed from level 12?
please help me!!!
Bob: take a look on font code.
One thing to remember is to check the page source (Ctrl+U on Windows) for clues. That's how I got past level 10 and 11.
Now I'm stuck on level 13, and Google isn't helping. Any hints?
Wow, I surprised myself getting to level 13 by myself!
(Being Canadian helped with getting 'sept'!)
14 has me stumped, though!
Dan Someone:
The answer is a pretty obscure phrase that I can't remember where I heard.

For 13:

ugh. I'm stuck on level FOUR. O.o
Walkthrough for 1-15 (haven't solved 16 yet):

Doing OK so far - got a head for numbers...stuck on

Meesh:

19 > 20 is a real stinker as well. Took me a while on that one.
Anyone know how high this goes up?
Meesh, thanks. That would be the type of out-of-left-field "puzzle" that everyone is talking about. (The #7 puzzle requires only a little knowledge of French; this one... who knows? The only thing I could find that seems to relate is

sorry to reply to myself, but I just came across a solution to this on another website (which no I won't link, its easy enough to find via google). And it finishes at #30 (for now). But seeing the solutions for some of the ones from 20 > 30 they are ridiculously obscure, and I think it very unlikely that the vast majority of people will be able to do this on their own.
I'm up to 18. I have no idea how to continue.
Thanks for the help, minmay.
I know that 16 has something to do with Gaelic...
Stuck on 16!
For 18:

Oh, the magic of posting! (and google!)
Now I'm stuck on 17.
Macaaroni, one thing to remember is

I actually think that level 7 is one of the more clever.
I managed to get to thirteen, and I agree with Dan Someone, google isn't helping much at all. Any other hints?
Never mind, just refreshed and saw the add-ons. (and sorry about the double post!)
Level 16 is Welsh. Its written wrongly on the game (its my first language but the answer is...

Level 18, anyone?
AAAHH!! Can't get 18>19.
Jess, how did you know I wouldn't give up? I made it to the "unlucky" level and needed the walkthrough :(
Level 16 (or 17), the one with Gaelic "un_ar_bymtheg" stumped me so here's help with it...
http://www.sf.airnet.ne.jp/ts/language/number/traditional_welsh.html
Uh... there's nothing in EIGHteen's page source that extraordinary... hint?
For 17:

pigmonkey:
I don't see how this is helping at all... I tried

To get past the redirect of 19 to 18...

I found a seemingly complete walkthrough, should I post the link, apply multiple spoilers, or just allow the rest of you to keep trying. I didn't have the patience myself but I know it's hard not to click on spoilers once they're there.
Crud! My spoiler Tags didn't work. Can someone delete it and I shall try again?!
Thanks!
Wow, so much for common courtesy and spoiler tags. Ben, you should remove that if you can and add spoiler tags. Dang.
I had the tags in there honest. No idea why they didn't show up...
Okay, level 30... did I actually win? Is that the last level?
Holy cow. Welsh? I think that crosses the line.
What I was getting at was

There, with working spoilers.
I had Javascript off earlier. Does that affect the commenting function, Jay?
OK, so how to get from 20 to 21?

Thanks, .Ben, for the walkthrough!
Yes, there is a Javascript validation routine that gets called when submitting your comments. It changes all the <spoiler> tags to <pre><sp> pairs, as that's actually how they are stored in the database. The single "spoiler" tag is just there for your convenience.
With Javascript disabled, of course, that routine doesn't run.

Never mind. I agree with the initial reviewer -- a lot of the puzzles make sense, but many, especially the later ones, seem totally arbitrary, or at least to require such an insane degree of lateral thinking as to be effectively arbitrary.
Hmmm. Any reason why the "hint-through" had to be such a smart*? There are some serious flaws in the game, such as the answer for level 16, which is only one way of writing those numbers, and not the most common according to my research. Yeah. I'm done.
I always had the feeling these html-changers are for the masochists.
Now i know :)
@ Meesh: yes, the Canadian-ness helped me too!
and taking info-tech in high school helped with the binary and hexidecimal, but the whole welsh thing was even weirder than the french bit.
Mildy amusing, and i did like that i could get past 10 without needing hints, and that it is only browser/math based, no other programs required.
For level 29, I went to Wikipedia and researched on the planet Tatooine, hahahhahahaha
Phew, I'm done *faints*
ookay...cheers for the help with no.18 but...
how on earth do I switch of javascript?! For the non technicaly-minded please
oh nevermind, google helped me out!
This game was definitely easier than other ones I have played, like not pr0n... But it's still distracting from my studies!! -.-;...
Not again one of those "look at the source, and change the URL games". What was once an original idea, and a funny concept became IMHO a real sloppy game/riddle design nowadays many try to copy. Why not have the answer put in an *Editbox* in a *Flash* application? What do URLs add to "add" to the concept riddles? Nada.
@fuzzyface:
It's not "yet another", really. This is actually a fairly old game. Also, it's a lot easier to do this in pure html instead of Flash.
I really enjoyed this. I now wish I had tried harder not to use hints in the earlier levels (17!) because doing the last 10 purely on instinct was really satisfying.
My big problems were with 13, which was just obscure, and 21, because it seemed really arbitrary. The later ones were quite clever.
Yeah 21 and 16 seemed just utterly insane if you ask me.
The review is spot on.
I have more or less easily reached level 20, and it stumped me completely.

From that point on I lost my patience and just read through solutions. Too bad, because, as the review says, 80% of the game is quite good.
My problem with URL riddles is that I think of everything but what the answer really is. For example, I thought 13 was easy:

If the riddle is just the least bit misleading, I'll end up going in the wrong direction.
for level 27, i just can't see the wrong spelling of "style"..
I just had to jump in to point out that the walkthrough's answer for number seven is just wrong. I've been going nuts on the wrong track. It took digging through the comments to find the right answer. Somebody should probably fix that.
21 made me a little upset.

Thanks, Ax. It's fixed now. =)
Ooops, sorry about that. :S
