If you have ever wanted a game to look more like work so that you could play in the office without fear of someone glancing over your shoulder and seeing particle effects shooting toward all edges of your computer screen while you're dodging asteroids and flying monkeys, then this is for you.
Excit is a puzzle game similar to the previously reviewed Orbox and Orbox B, which were both clones of Roadblocks, set on top of a page from a spreadsheet. The game includes a variety of extras that make each level increasingly more difficult and compelling to play. A level password system allows you to continue a game at a later time, and though the game asks for your name to start with, there is no integrated save system in place.
The game was created by Krystian Majweski and team from Creative Units, a German company that does development and research of computer games. It was designed as a small viral Flash game for a company that was bought up before the game was published, but the authors have made the game available to play anyways, since it is a finished piece of their work. And it's quite nice, too. Play Excit.
Cheers to Wouter for suggesting this one. =)

I really like the artistic-design of this game, I'm just sick of the game mechanics, it's not really any better than what it is a clone of.
I sorta wish they had used the spreadsheet design for a more unique game mechanic.
Otherwise, cool.
I enjoy games like this a lot. The levels were all pretty easy, (I did get a little bit stuck at Level 21), but it was still fun to play.
I somehow find this a lot more appealing than Orbox, once the more interesting objects (like the acceleration arrows!) come into play. The large playing space allows for some interesting, non-obvious level design. And the presentation could hardly be better. Two thumbs up from me.
kaddar:
Come to think of it, I would get a kick out of seeing a dungeon exploration game like NetHack or Dwarf Fortress done with this visual style and peppered with cheesy Microsoft references. The giant paper clip could be a boss.
The lack of a good save feature (and I don't count passwords as "good save features", they're more like cheats to skip what you've done instead of saving your progress) bothers me.
Otherwise fun.
I'm stuck on Level 25 myself (how many leveles are there again?).
I know I must be getting distracted by things I should't aim for - but I'm always ending up with the key in the middle of the screen that I cannot reach....
I love this game. Got to level 22 before I quit from frustration. (The good kind of frustration.) Very much like Orbox, but I love the stylesheet and larger playing area. The sound effects are sweet too.
The "Replay" at the top of my page was "Feed Me" by Nitrome. Interesting, since it uses the same "Exit" icon.
Bonus points for intergame graphic spotting!
Psychotronic:
Yeah! Exactly, there are far too few reimplementation of nethack in a creative way, yet most game sites have a version of this game mechanic. That's a good idea. Really good.
Well, maybe the creators are reading this and would consider it.
I Don't see how 21 is even possible? There is nothing to bounce of near the Exit? Any suggestions???
21 exit route :

Of Course! Thanks for the help!
Any Help for 23, or is there a Walk through available?
I must be insane, but I can't see the way to 20. As far as I can tell

Any help with whatever I'm not seeing?
Solution was right in front of me the entire time, never mind.
I know this is pathetic, but how do you beat level five? Someone needs to post a walkthrough.
Anyone solved level 29?
It's killing me!
Need help
I am currently working on a walkthrough (I have through lv 21 done currently) but I might need some help on the later levels.
@ Exxon
A sample of the walkthrough

() = Level password; U = Up; D = Down; L = Left; R = Right
Ok, like I said earlier, I could use some help. Any suggestions on 26? I can get all of the MIS logos but I cannot seem to find a way to the exit.
I like games with this pace (I'm older and retired). I honestly think it stretches the brain. I got up to level 18 on this one. I prefer puzzles to click and shoot although my favorite (free flash) sports game is 3-Putt at www.stmulligan.com
Keep up the reviews. It's a good way to find interesting games.
ixidorsbane: try working backwards in level 26 (figure out how you'll get to the exit first, and plan around it). I did most of the levels this way, actually.
Anyone do Level 23? I can't find the place to start.
I have decided that level 30 is impossible...anybody able to solve it? HELP!!!
Got Level 29.
30 is nuts, tried everything I can see.
Anyone solve this yet?
level 30

darn.. this game drives me crazy..
cant get through lvl 28.
any ideas?
I don't understand how to solve level 28... Someone can help me ?
Thanks.
@ cracker
Thanks for the solution to get to the goal, but does anyone know the solution while getting all the MIS logos as well?
@ PP_Tom

I really cannot figure out 25. The only way I can see to get teh key in the middle is to stop on a block that is only reachable by going through an acceleratoe that burns up the block. Help!
@ mruport

I'm still stuck on getting all the MIS logos on 30. If someone can help, I can post a full walkthrough.
ixidorsbane...
logos for 30

Anyone help with 24? It's driving me crazy. Not as crazy as 21, but I got 21. PLEASE HELP WITH 24!
hmm. i'm still not getting level 26. tried to work backwards from the exit.
from left: no, left window border.
from top (b8): would mean coming from left window border.
from bottom: would mean having to get to stand still at b13, not possible.
from right: would mean coming from m11, would mean coming from top window border.
what am i missing??
is there anything about the acceleration arrows i don't understand? i can only use them to smash the brick they are pointing towards, right?
and what about the key? i can use it to unlock one of the two locks, but none of them seem to be significant to me.
please help... :)

Thanks for the 28 ixidorsbane!
Not really keen on these type of games...I'm a "point and click" person myself. And I do like to have time to think!
Thanks to Ben Hogan for the golf game link - I like those games too.
