JIG Google Gadget

Comments (22) | Views (2,550)

JIG Google GadgetI just finished making a JIG Google Gadget (try saying that three times fast!) using Google's Gadget API. The gadget displays a random selection of game icons on your Google home page, similar to what shows up in the recommended section on every page of this site. So now quick-click casual games are even more accessible and convenient than ever before.

If you would like this gadget added to your Google home page, just click the image to the right, or use this link to Add to Google. =)

Let me be the first to say: You're my hero!
What an awesome gadget, a must have for all casual gamers.

Cheers!

Very cool. I should definitely install it, or whatever it is you do with it.

Could this aplication be updated to show the daily updates on the site as well in some way?

Neat!

(I have to say, I love your "recommended" block with its irresistibly mysterious little icons ... it's an incredibly sticky feature. Sometimes I spend entirely too long just surfing through your games at random.)

Could you (or someone else) make an OS X Dashboard widget? It should be very similar, as I imagine they're both just DHTML.

I second the motion, and I think they are both in XML, actually. Or maybe a favourites widget, that checks the Safari cookie? Or the RSS feed in a widget. I guess regular users can make all of these when OS X: Leopard comes out! So excited!

By the way, the new "Support JIG" puzzle is quite a bit of fun! (I have completed it a few too many times for my own good.)

Thank you for your feedback, everyone. It was really just a quick hack I threw together to get something working. I may revisit this again soon to improve on its capabilities.

As for an OS X dashboard widget, XP Vista widget, etc., yes, of course that's something I'd like to do, but time is the contraint right now. I'll have to wait on those ideas for another couple of months yet, as I have bigger projects underway for the site.

cheers!

As always, thanks Jay!

Any plans to make some kind of firefox extention similar to this?

Reply

You know I would love to make widgets of every kind for every OS and browser combination you can think of. The problem I have is time: I just can't do everything myself.

So, if anyone wants to offer to help out by creating a widget for Firefox, Vista, OS X dashboard, (insert your favorite interface here), then step right up and I'll give you all the help and support you need to get the job done. =)

(If it's done right, I may even pay you something for your efforts.)

cheers!

I'd rather have a sidebar badge (similar) that I could put on my wordpress site. I suppose this could be tweaked to fit, eh?
