LUT! games
Flash developer and blogger LUT! has a few unique point-and-click adventure games just begging for your attention. They're short, moderately difficult, and one oozes style while the other tries to scare the ActionScript out of you.
Darkness Episodes 1 and 2 - The Darkness games put you in the role of a girl who wakes one night to answer a knock at her front door.
A black hand engulfs her and the next thing she knows she's back in her bed and doesn't remember a thing. Upon investigating she finds a few things are a little... different... in her home. No spoilers here, but the plot twists in several directions while taking the time to spook you with some chilling moments. Follow the title screen's advice and turn up the speakers to really get sucked in.
There's an interesting feature where the girl will get frightened and "PANIC!" will flash on the screen. Press the space bar as fast as you can to keep your cool. If you don't, it's Game Over. It really keeps your senses on alert.
The first episode of Darkness is played out entirely in first person while the second shifts to a third-person view. The puzzles in both installments are fairly straightforward, but part two offers a little more challenge.
Tomb of Doom - This room-escape point-and-click game really stands out because the characters and scenery are made entirely out of plasticine, the clay-like substance used to make Wallace and Gromit.
You play a Gumby-esque character who falls into a mysterious tomb while taking a walk. Using the items found inside, you must fend off giant scorpions, unlock doors and investigate strange statues as you search for the exit. It's sort of like a light-hearted Indiana Jones adventure with a few quirky quests to keep you from getting too serious.
Solving the puzzles in Tomb of Doom isn't too difficult, but navigating through the maze of doors and nearly identical rooms can be confusing, even with the map. It's a short play, but it's great to see this rare form of animation used in a video game.
The games on the LUT! website are great diversions. The Darkness episodes are especially atmospheric and can easily swipe an hour of your time without you even realizing it. Play.
As a side note, the LUT! website has a few pop-up ads, many of which open when you leave the site. Be ready.
Thanks Bonman for sending these in!

I did Tomb of Doom the other day. If anyone needs help ask. Speaking of help, anyone get anywhere with Darkness 1?
Sweeet! I love claymation and was stoked when I first learned of Tomb of Doom. SO glad you reviewed these games, John, cheers! =)

ash, you don't have what you need to get the cork. To get it, you need something that will make it rise to the top...
Might be a good time to 'plug' one of my favorite adventure games of all time, The Netverhood. All clay-mation. If you haven't played it, by all means get it. Buy it (might be a little hard, even on ebay), crack it, hack it, steal it, just get the damn thing! I almost cried at the end!
what is kep?
I'm so lost...I'm on part 2...
this is what I've done so far
Whew - scary.... the amount of pop-up advertising that hit my computer while playing Darkness 1 !!!

Here's my favorite adventure game of all time -- Grim Fandango. It's not clay-mation but it's different. It's LucasArts homage to the Day of the Dead celebration and the movie Casablanca. All rolled up into one! Wonderful plotline, hilarious dialogue, and a supreme soundtrack. Recommended to all "point-and-clickers" out there!
I know i need to make it rise, but i haven't found anything more. I cant get the pop out of the machine, because i got no money, and i dont know where to get the money for. any suggestions. i've searched all over the building, and it became like a treasure hunt, dodging from the ghost who appeared like every 2 seconds.

So, why is it that when you come out of the bedroom you are standing in front of the bathroom? a little reworking would make the Darkness 1 game infinitely better!

the exit key
waahoowaa -
Grim Fandango was an unforgetable game. Probably the last great from (pre-LetsMakeAllOurGamesStarWarsThemed) LucasArts, wich gave us many great point-n-clicks, of wich my personal favourite (and the favourite of alot of other people too) is Day of the Tentacle! Funniest game ever! Though the Monkey Island series was also classic. And The Dig was absolutely amazing, though quite different from other LucasArts games as it was more sci-fi and less humour.
The old days...
to get the light down

yes!
i finished darkness 2!

Argh. I had to give up on the Tomb of Doom the first time because it glitched when I went into the room with the gears and
If you are scared easily, doooo not play darkness two, ones more not scary, still freaked ME out tho....
Tomb of Doom is like a spoof of all thos creepy room escapes and indiana Jones stuff. Love it! A bit easy though.
Hmm, and pointers as to how to get past the spider in Tomb of Doom? I've tried:
meme...

You're old school... I like that. You made me search for DOTT, but it won't run on my XP. (Heck - even Grim Fandango has issues in XP). I found a hack for DOTT on XP and I'll try it again tonight. Can't say I've played The Dig. I saw a few copies of it on eBay and I'll buy one per your recommendation.
Have you played Psychonauts? It's from the same program director who did Grim Fandango.
What am i missing in Tomb of Doom? I have to get the banana for the monkey statue, but i can't get passed the eye... A hint, please...
Walkthrough Tomb of Doom:
how annoying that ghost is!, is there gonna be a final part of that game? is there a 3rd part?
Darkness 2 scared the daylights out of me...but I couldn't give up until I finished. I live alone, so I couldn't do it there, I did it at work, under the safety of people and flourescent lighting. It's the only way I could bring myself to do it. But great game.
Oh man, The Dig was my first actual point-and-click experience. I was young when I played it, and it pulled me in. Definate 10/10.
Gah. I keep losing on Darkness 2 when a ghost-thing appears and I have the inventory open -- it doesn't respond to the space bars. Really annoying.
The Darkness games were GREAT! The six-thousand pop-ups were bogus.
an interesting method to pause, hide behind a curtain in one of the wards... it allowed me to eat my ramen in peace, well, as much peace as that hauntingly eerie music will allow, nice games
waahoowaa - Not sure if you'll check back here, but in case you do..
If you want to play any of the original Point n Click Lucas Arts games on XP, I highly recommend downloading a program called SCUMM VM.
Once you've got it, it'll load any old Lucas Arts games (and some non-Lucas Arts) that were built on the SCUMM system.. Games like Indiana Jones & The Fate Of Atlantis, DOTT, The Dig, Full Throttle (classic!), Loom (amazing too), etc..
Just do a search on Google for SCUMM VM, n you should find it quite easily. Also works on OS X for any Mac-owners who want to re-live these old games too :).
As for Grim Fandango, I managed to get it working on XP SP2 a while ago.. But I can't remember how to do it now for the life of me. Sorry! Try Google :).

OK can anyone tell me why I click forever on the Inventory word and can not get it to display so I can get my stuff? I can go no where if I can not access the towel and flashlight. Guess I will just try to reload.
Reminds me a bit of Amber. Anyone out there play that? It was one of the scariest games ever - like a Hitchcock film on the PC. It introduced my to the world of gaming and is still my favorite.
Alright, stubbornes figured it out. The reason I can not access the Inventory is because for some reason my cursor is off center. I must place my cursor, not on the item, but rather a bit below and off the button, then I can access inventory, scroll thru etc. Wierd but workable.
I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but darkness 2 has already been linked on this site somewhere, because I remember playing it a while ago, and I'd only have found it from this page. It might have been under a different name though, or within another halloween-type game... I remember I played it at about 1 in the morning and had to cut it short :P.
Im sorry, but I cant get through the pop- up ads...just insane. For me they start right away even with a blocker and dont stop. yuck

Thanks for the info! I'll try it out when I get back home (stuck in a hotel in Pittsburgh...)
I don't know what is scarier the darkness, the ghost, the sound effects, OR THE POPUPS!!!
This game author seems to like the "jump out and scare you with a screech" trick. An otherwise very clever game is marred by including cheap scares (for instance, the end of Tomb of Doom).
Other than that, the popups really annoy me (especially since one seemed to freeze IE for a few minutes) but these games were fun.
I am stucked on darkness 1. I found trunk key, master bedroom key, watched video and caught, found candle.. I think I need matches huh? I can't seem to find...
did you open the trunk in your bed room
yeah... sorry kids but i'm a little freaked out by the ghost and her bloody eyes...
omg when is darkness 3 coming out omg i need it to come out me and my friend love the darkness its easy lol ..... you said it would be out by the end of june its september love hehe... hurry up i need to play it ive been waiting for timeeeeee ... if you have anything to say to me then please do not HESITATE but please contact me.. x ashlie x
i have got the drink out the machine and have got down the stairs but there is rubble blocking my way and there is keys at the bottom of the stairs. how do i make a fishing rod to get the keys?
I just finished the second one, hopefully there will be a third episode because it said to be continued. I love games like this!!!
when is darkness 3 coming???
On tomb of doom what is the gear?? and where is it??
I can't figure out Darkness 2. I pull the lever in the begining then I get the site ad. Nothing else happens, I don't understand.
I was playing Darkness 2 late at night. Going through well, until I see the ghost. I was like "Let's see what she looks like!" Ten seconds later, I was screaming like bloody hell with my eyes closed going "HER EYES! THEY'RE BLEEDING! THEY'RE BLEEDING!!!!!" I ran out with my eyes closed bumping into probably everything and then I go to bed. I can still see those bleeding eyes. I'm glad that's all I saw. I walk back to the computer to see... a GAME OVER screen. I clicked off and played something else. The moral? Avoid the ghost on Darkness 2, ESPECIALLY at night.
