Look at the Level 6 start page .... it says

"How many x chart # ....
(Ag has a certain number associated with it on the chart.) That will give you a four digit number. Then (answer).htm
That should give you the right answer.

Level 41 - Why Why Not

I can get the 2 pictures, but when I try to copy and paste them into "Paint" it doesn't work. I can paste them into a "Word" page but then I can't manipulate them like I can in "Paint"

I must be doing something simple wrong???

Got it!

I was trying to copy and paste the first picture into "Paint" HTML into Paint = no go

Get tw0.jpg and save it to a picture/graphics file. then open the file in "Paint". Handle 7wo.jpg the same way. Do the "fill" trick to reveal the picture detail. Resize picture if necessary to fit on 8.5 x 11 landscape (900 x 430 pixels) Center the picture on the paper horizontally and vertically. (Use file > Page Setup) Print the two pictures. I'll leave the rest for you to figure out.

i still couldnot get past level 3. i tried to save the picture in .gif format with names like
ice.gif
break.gif
breaktheice.gif
but i still don't get it.
please help

Read the clue .... highlight to read.
Look at the source code ... go to View on bar at top of browser then click on "source"

What's the picture name used here.
What do you do with the extension?

D'oh. ok so I was going in the right direction for puzzle 7.

Look at the source code for the actual picture and keep up with the fibonacci numbers. Its all in the way you write the answer in the url.

Copy the picture and paste it into an image editing program ... Microsoft Photo Editor works.

Play with the image balance ...brightness contrast and gamma.

You should get something to show up on the white balls.

Then look for clues in the stars.

Google is your friend for this one. Google for "the riddle of the sphinx" The answer to the riddle is the answer you are looking for.

I've forgotten how I arrived at the answer ... I'll have to go back and see if I can figure it out again.
I think it has to do with the pairs of stars in the picture .... join them with a line and it spells out a word that is the solution to the puzzle.

im stuck on lvl three.. i know the pics name is notquite.jpg, which has to be changed to notquite.gif (right?) But when i save it on my pc, it doesnt do anything..

Entering the answer involves replacing part of the "address line"

The clue from reading the "source code" tells you to input "notquite.jpg" but also tells you a different extension is needed it tells you to check the title of the puzzle page ..... There are many image types TIFF JPG JPEG BMP and GIF

try notquite.gif

Examine the new picture closely for a clue .... that will be the solution to get you to the next level.

liladventurer - Level 29

You will have to do a little deduction to get this one ... the "verticle word" has been cut in half from top to bottom ... so you only have the LH part. It's also been squashed vertically so the letters appear short and squat. You can copy the picture into "PAINT" and then turn and squish it sideways and pull it out lengthwise. There is NO POSSIBLE WAY to get the other half of the word so you'll have to deduce what letters could be formed from the half that you can see.

Some of the letters have serifs ....

So for the first letter it could be C or O or Q
The second letter could be C or O or Q too
The third letter has a serif for the base of the vertical stroke so has to be an F a P or an R
The fourth letter also has a serif and the line coming down from to top to the right slants down so it must be an N

I'll leave you some to figure out.

Consider the last puzzle completed .... what was it about?

Some bible research might turn up some information about the person and a number of coins of the realm that were paid for some information.

The "chart" refers to a scientific listing of the properties of the elements ... in this case the metal used for the coin of the realm.

Just place your mouse cursor on the puzzle and read what pops up. Enter that in the address line and it will take you to the next Level.

Suggestion .... Read the "Other Programs to Help Solve Puzzles" in the Enigma Forum.

Wickipedia and Google are by far the most useful tools to use.

HINT - Google "Fibonacci" or "Fibonacci Series"

This will lead you to an answer .... not necessarily the correct answer. You may have to do more reading on the Fibonacci Series to discover why.

The series does not always include 0

the right answer is the tenth number in the series = 55 ... but that doesn't work!

The solution to this puzzle is a little difficult.

The name of the puzzle "Ding" is a clue .... it refers to a kind of font.

The image name is also a clue "kjhmh.jpg"

Change kjhmh to different characters in the wingdings font. Start at the rosy "S" to discover the solution to the puzzle.

Be advised: 8 is an IE puzzle...

I am so stuck on level 16! Can anyone help? I may be overthinking it, but I tried switching my keyboard (because of the hint in the title) to decipher what I found in the source... but it doesn't work.

Have a picture of a Dvorak keyboard handy.

For the source hints, compare the placements of the letters.

Where one letter is on a Dvorak, replace it with the corresponding letter on a regular keyboard.

You'll get two messages: "latitude" and "opposite of the pic"

First ... read Welcome to the Enigma Puzzle
Next .... read Other programs to help solve puzzles

Now to help you with Puzzle Level 4.

Did you highlight below the puzzle picture as instructed? OK Right click on the puzzle picture and COPY the picture. Now go to a program on your computer called "Paint" On the menu bar at the top click on "edit" and then select "paste". The puzzle picture should appear on the screen. Next select the "bucket" icon in the menu bar on the LH side of your screen. Drag it down onto the picture where it shows a bucket and then click the mouse. The previously white background changes to "black" and reveals something.

Back to the puzzle .... replace the word "bucket" in the picture address with the word that was revealed. Be careful to retain the .htm on the address line. That's the extension of the address. Hit "enter".

You should now be at Puzzle #5

I am having an absolute horrible time with trying to figure puzzle #39. I've tried to search these comments trying to find any sort of decent clue to the answer but I've found nothing. I beg of anyone, please give me clues that are easier to follow up on then some of the crap I've been reading here.
