The Museum

The MuseumThis game just popped onto the Flash point-and-click adventure scene, and people are all over it. The Museum is a brand new adventure from French design team Anode & Cathode, and is one part mystery and one part figure out what the object of the game is.

To save you from the little frustration I experienced with the game, your task is to collect the objects you find while exploring the museum and, well, put them back where they belong. Some of the puzzles are logical, and others are a bit odd. In other words, rely on your common sense most of the time, and when that fails use your imagination.

All things considered, the game was fairly well designed, yet the execution of it suffers from inconsistencies and a lack of cohesion. For example, some items to collect in your inventory are to be placed, while others to be acted upon, and still others combined. While this may seem logical in an adventure game of this sort, the interface made it a little confusing to me. There is a story—though somewhat of an afterthought it seems—that is revealed at the end, and yet the game play could have existed in an entirely different game altogether. Much of the 'art' in the museum is nicely done and fits the mood and theme of the game well, and yet it is mixed with various out-of-character additions from the design team. While these deviances may inject some style and humor into the game, they also serve to disrupt any immersion the authors were attempting to create. These are somewhat minor issues, though, and if you enjoy point-and-click Flash adventures, then it is likely you will enjoy playing this one as well.

How disapointing ! If you discover the basement, don't just click on one of the bomb in the room on the right ; if you do so, you'll die and have to restart the game from the very beginning :(((

Hmmm... that was pretty easy, expecially when compaired to games such as the Dark Room...
My cursor kept dissapearing which caused a bit of trouble when playing this game :/

I did also find the bomb in the basement and died, but the game said I deserved to continue and I didnt have to start from the beginning.

I guess its because the game liked me :)

i can't get the code for room three

Armand - Is there anything about the gallery that might translate into the three numbers you see as the pattern of the combination? --|--|----

I can't figure out the 3rd room either. From the format of the combination, it may be a date, but I can't figure it out

This particular puzzle is a bit obscure, especially if the player is not French. In the gallery you will find the combination you seek. There are three different numbers you need to locate. Try counting objects in the paintings. And remember, Europeans express dates differently than we do in the States.

I only found the year and then I googled about the year and checked what important things happened in France that year and tried the dates :)

any hints out there?

What do you want to know? How far did you get?

great game so far. i saw someone else's screenshot and i have everything except the pearl and orange microchip.
how do i get these???

plz help

Thanks

I finished the game, but I do not recall ever seeing an orange microchip. Have you found the bullet yet? If you have, then you have found the pearl.

eep... no? i guess i should modify my question to where is the bullet then?

hehe thx

ok found the orange microchip. i guess it isnt necessary to the completion of the game, but just for plot explanation like the other microchips.

spoiler

..
.
it's in the box of the frenchman painting opened w/ the key that falls from the soldier on the horseback.

still trying to find the bullet though

Have you been in the basement? The bullet is in the basement, hidden someplace. Have you keys to get in both doors 1 & 2? It's in one of those two rooms. =)

how do you get the sword from the stone out front? HELP!

Bob, you must be pure of heart before you can grab the sword from the stone. Talk to the squirrel.

I can't find the basement, any help?
~Bri

You must solve each of the puzzles in the red hall before you can get to the basement. Reply with specific questions if you have any.

I can't figure out the password, and the format is different for me, --/-/---- (only one number in the middle).

Okay, so i escaped, but i never got into the first room in the basement. anything fun in there? O_o

where do u find the key to the second room?

i cant get the sword! i dont know what to do for the squirrel, too

Alison - you must talk to the squirrel to become pure of heart. Only the pure of heart can take the sword from the stone. Try bribing him with some nuts.

Thank you! i escaped from the museum

what should i do to complete the room with the ships in the back?

Janet - if i understand which room you mean, isn't there a missing 'hubcap' on the boat? Doesn't it look a lot like the shapes lining the the great big red hall?

Where can you get the nuts for the squirrwl?

i still didn't figure out the date...i can't figure out the roses...

the number of roses are 1789 but i don't know if i'm right cause i found 8 rings and like a 25 peoples but i put that in the password but nothing happen..so how i can do? plz

Whats the 3rd room? How do you get the picture with the guy on horseback with a red cape? What do you need for that?

where is the squirrel?

How do you do the guy on horsback with a red cape?
PLEASE TELL ME!!!!!

how do you get the key from the guy i gave him the telescope but all that happened was a few clouds in the background. and how do you talk to the squirel?

where do you get the nuts?

ok so there are 1789 roses, 8 rings and i have no idea about the people, i think it's 13 cos the ones in the annode and cathode design thing are all two people. should i count all the stick people or the person with the hand with the rings?? are there '0' in front of the numbers like 08-13-1789? wat order are they in? HELP!!

Hellow.
Where can I put the flower that I got on the gallery?

I was pretty sure it would be August 26, 1789 (declaration of rights of man) but I've the code still doesn't work! Any hints?

Mmm - European dates contain months and days that are flipped from what we are used to seeing here in the US.

I hate to be so stupid, but I can't quite finish. I've got the red box from the bomb room, but can't figure out where it belongs. Also, is there any significance to the wall in the hedge by the statue of Cupid outside? How about the eyeglasses? Thanks for the hint....

The only close to impossible thing (if you're not French) is the password for door #3, because the French express their dates differently than we do. So if you were going to type in a date, such as today, for example, 3-22-2005, it would instead look like this: 22-3-2005.

Does that help?

where do i find the nuts?

you have to hit the tree to get the nuts. there are 26 people and 8 rings.

does anyone know where i have to put the flower....and i dont know what to put in the room with the guy in the purple and the box thing..i've opened it with the key and got the green piece..is that all i have to do??

where are you supposed to put in the password???

i found everything, and I think I got out of the museum. But it let me out at the cupidon fountain, and there's an opening in the hedge, but I can't get through it. Is this the end of the game? Also, what is the purpose of the red box? I don't know what I'm supposed to do with it. Thanks!

managed to escape ok, but couldn't get into the first basement room. anyone care to help me out on that one?

you were right,password is 26-8-1789

f it sais game over, DO NOT close the window! click again and you might continue.

The only thing i'm still missing is the key to room #1

Opening at the hedge sais to be bricked closed, inside the red box is a bullet (click on the side of the box to open), and the password goes in door nr. 3, wich is in the basement. To get to the basement you will have to solve the 7 puzzles in the red hall

Oh, and why are so many people so obsessed with the french, that it's so hard if you don't speak french? If you knew french, you wouldn't complain, as it are just nonsense comments this 'spieler' apparently wrote, such as Veux tu jouer avec moi? Which simply means: do you want to play with me? Those things have absolutely nothing to do with solving the puzzle, as each comment you do need is in plain english.

I can't get the sword but i talked to the squirrel. And after that do i put the sword in the guy with the red cape and horse?

fiiiiiinished! thanx u guys

in the red box is a bullet, in the bullet is a pearl, which belongs to the girl's father.

Anyway I finished the game, but I didn't quite understand the ending, if anyone is willing to explain

i finished, but what were the chips for? and i think i was missing two things, for the whole bottom screen wasnt filled... hopefully it wasnt anything super exciting. And its got all that french stuff because: 1. the makers are french/english and 2. it helps with the code, showing what date is particular

xx - the chips are used with the glasses to view clues about the game.

how come i cant get the key from the soldier ... i gave him the sword already!

To get the nuts for the squirrel simply click on the tree. when feeding the squirrel the nuts he will ask a question, the answer is paris. When you give the answer he will say "you are true of heart", when he dows this go to the sword in the stone and collect it and give the sword to the sceene with the man on a horse. When this is done exit the sceene room and click on each of the swithches in front of the doors and then click the button in the centre of the coridor and then go into the room where you take the picture of the paintings on the wall. when in the room click on the post in front of you and this will allow you to enter the basement where you can use the keys to enter the the rooms. inside room 2 you will see two boxes, DO NOT CLICK! instead open the top draw of the dresser and open the box. Then select the red box from your inventory and click on the larger sized image, this will give you a shot gun shell. do the same as before with the shell to get the pearl then head for door number three and use the following code: 26-8-1789. when inside this room you will meet your girlfriend. give her the flower and then the pearl. this action will make a hole in the wall where you escape the museum. you exit the basement in the maze next to the fountain. Once there click on the arrow at the bottom of your screen and then click on the area of the maze that is top lefty of the screen.

!!YOU HAVE ESCAPED THE MUSEUM!!!

Did anyone know that Spieler means 'Player' in German? and besides, I can't find half of the stuff you guys talk about!!!

what do i give to to the bloke on horse back surrounded by an army

where do you get the keys for the two rooms?

you give the sword excalibur to the guy on the horse.

I'm french, if you need any translation, let me know

How do I get those green shield thingies off? o_o

yay i beat it i am #39394 to beat the game
are there enough items to fill your inventory?
get one of the shield to the rite in the main room jewlzeh

Hey, I think I've found the key to room # 1! First you must have the Medallion(it is found in the maze like place, the labyrenth. Use your lamp/flashlight thingy and guide it to the back of the maze, you should see a small opening. Click on it. If done right you should see the medallion swinging from a blue tree branch, click on it to grab it. Now go back inside the gallery and click on the medallion, then click on it again(do this 2 or 3 times to be safe). By now it should be open revealing a key with the
#1 on it. This should be the key for room#1 in the basement. Piece of cake >.

YESSSSSS! I'm escapee # 39756!!!!!!!! lol I know that's sad, but Im so happy and proud of myself!
I had to escape, I would've literally gone crazy if I hadn't beat it.

how can i go in the room 2 of the basement? I cannot find the key!!!!

What do I give to the man in the toga in front of the gold and red background? and where would i find it? i have all the others.

Hiya. I am usually very good with these types of games, but here, I cannot even get on the path. How to I get past the gate onto the path. I have the telescope and glasses. EEK!

AHA! There it is! The answer is this! The key for the 2nd room in the basement is found by going to the fountain in the labyrinth and dropping the coin in it!!!!!!! Muuuuuaaahhhhhhhhaahahahahaa!!!!!!!!!

After all that malarky, I finally made it! Woohoo! I am escapee #40,710 from The Museum! That was pretty exciting! Thanks, JAY!

jej i made it, thanks for they basements room number 2 key hint Misty!!! couldn't done it without you.

where do i have to click to give the girlfriend the rose and pearl???? i cant figure out why she doesn't take them!!!

how do you get the green sheilds off the wall to put on the ship of the scene

i beat the game but i had one empty spot all the way to the right on the top, what goes there?

Just did it!! That code was a git but I enjoyed the game!

44764! fun. tough..but fun. i love point and click games.

In the main red hall I have completed all of the rooms except the one with guy on the boat and the shields, how do you get the shields?

I finished the game! But I had 3 missing items from my inventory. I believe it might of been a 3rd key to open the safe in one of the paintings. Cause one of the notes says Napoleon has the key. But how do I get it?, a 3rd chip for the glasses ( any1 know where that is?) and I can't figure out the last item. Where do I find these items? Can someone help?

what do you do to the guy in purple??? help...

Maya...you have to give the girlfriend the flower first, and it can't be while the word bubble is on the screen(I tried multiple times, thinking I had forgotten something). I put it on the thing around her neck(in the hole).

the code: 26-8-1789

There's the new one online : THE CASINO

at www.anodeetcathode.net/games/casino

how do u open the box with the man holding the stick.

I have found about six things and I am very much in the beginning of the game. Where do you find the squirrel and which tree do you need the nuts from? I've clicked on all of them.. or do I need something to hit them with? O.o

Ah, nevermind, I am now 52356 to escape the museum.

I don't understand how you guys figured out the date for the code. (I did finish the game, just saying.) Was there a slip of paper somewhere that said what the date was? Also, I had everything filled in in my inventory but the top right hand corner square, was there something else I could have gotten? Just curious.

BAH! Nevermind, just went through it again and saw the gallery. Man, I feel stupid.

where do you find the squirrel?

ive been wandering round for like 2 hours.. i can't seem to find what to give the guy with shields and sailing ships on the background..ahhhhits frustrating

Hi- I can't get the sword to give to the person on the horse. How do I do that?

Late to this game so maybe nobody's home anymore. Got everybody
squared away but Napoleon. Thought for sure he needed the
spyglass but can't make it stick. Thanks, Jay. Will sign up for
TypeKey soon.

I finished missing only the upper right item. This game reminds me of a very old computer game, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. It does not play like it, however I'm most convinced that the creators, at least one, must have played the game and purposely used some of its elements, such as the solid color background for items, the colored names for items, pearl in the necklace, and other things. I also highly recommend Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark to anyone who enjoyed the tenticales series. You might have a problem finding it though, if you are lucky it is abandonware and free for use.

thanx now im #58461!!!

finished : )

something gives me the feeling that there is no 22nd item, it is just blank.

P.S.

Can you find the author's email hidden in the game? (look for a very CHILDISH painting).

helppppppp me...i feel so stupid. what do u give the pic with the guy tryin to put something on the head of the other guy?!!! thats the last thing i need to complete the hall =(

Hey me, how do ya get the sheilds off of the wall?

For all you guys out there that think the sheilds for the ship in the hallway thing is SO hard, he is the answer:

if you think you need to pry the sheilds off the wall with something, your looking and clicking on the wrong sheilds. They are in the hallway, though. 1 more clue, there are more than 4 sheilds in the hallway. Maybe there are some on the othere side of the hall.....?

I was 61769 to complete this !!

Tashja xx

I'm stuck. Where do I find the thing for Napolien? It's the last thing I need and it's driving me crazy!

You need a whole walk through for each piece of art work... Cause I'm totally stuck on Napolean, and that's all.

where the heck do u get the flower from!? i got everything but that! plz reply ASAP

Someone should tell that poor, patriotic squirrel that the 2012 Olympics are going to be in London, not Paris!

the flower is in the....

gallery

if you still don't see it....

it's the generic looking flower on the bottom corner of the painting to the very left

I can't seem to find the item to be given to the guy in the toga. I've solved all of the other paintings. Any suggestions?

Typical - once I post something for help, I figure it out.

I'm #69377 to escape the museum.

Bit of wishful thinking on the part of the squirrel, huh? He'll have to cross the channel in 2012.

I have an open spot in the top right of my inventory - Did anyone find something that belongs there?

I'm stuck on the toga guy HELP!

IZZGOOD, about the toga guy:

there is a circle thing missing on his boat, so you need to find another one to put there.

If you still need help:

you can find one in the red room

And if you STILL need help...

there are four in the room, take the one on the top right, above the door.

That should do it!

I beat the game but I was missing one item, I believe it was the orange chip someone had mentioned. I guess it wasn't necesary. If it had anything to do with the other chips it probably wasn't. Thanks for uploading this!

I liked this game a lot. I checked their website and there are other games on there too!

http://www.anodeetcathode.net/games/

Maybe they'll be similar?

I finished it...with a lot of peeping at spoilers :p

I also found that if you use the camera to take picture of the room with 6 pictures on the wall, click on the camera to view the pictures, and adjust the contrast in the camera, it says Ring=People=Roses...does this have something to do with the password to room 3?

Never asked for help before, but I'm REALLLLLY frustrated....I figure (I hope) the the bayleaf crown thing goes on the guy in the robe in the purple and gold room....but it won't go on him anywhere...got the rest....any assistance???

The crown does not fit there! It fits on the painting with two people!!!!!

If anyone still plays this, the guy on the horse DOES have the key! Maybe if you click on him in the right spot the key might drop...

i cant get the walking stick. i seriously cant find it anywhere. someone help?

where do you find the telescope and the walking stick?

i dont get it...i mean, i finished the game, but what are the microchips for and how do you get the password (i used a walkthrough to get the password)

Can you help us get the pearl? Where is it, please?

its all right found it thanks anyway

Yeuuuhh! Thanks for the password whoever you were. Still don't know where you found it...

where is the squirrel? I cant see the squirrel. I am clicking on the tree and there aren't any nuts. Where are they?

Yeah it took me a few moments to understand the logic of the code 26-8-1789
coincidentially, it is the date of french revolutin, but the tip for the password lies also on the photo of the paintings you take
I guess you all saw teh message rings=people=flowers
people its 08 on the children's draw
flowers are 1789 as shown on the flowers painting
the thing about the rings is the stupid untinkable... if you count all rings, you shall find 8 of them, then you go all happy and insert 8 or 08 and that doesn work
well, if you look again, the anode painting has 2 rings, more the hand with five and the roses with one...
2+6=8... 26, that's the trick...
silly huh?

Pedro, things aren't always as silly or 'stupid untinkable' as they may seem to you:

- first, august 26 1789 isn't 'the' date of the French Revolution (if anything, that would be Bastille Day, july 14), but of one of the important events of it, the adaptation of 'La Déclaration des droits de l'Homme et du citoyen', The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen.
- as mentioned above, this date is found from the photographs that (after playing around with the contrast) mention "ring-people-roses"
- # roses is mentioned in name of photo, 1789
- # of rings can be counted (1 with the roses, 5 on the hand, 2 in the A&C set of photo's), total of 8
- # of people is simply a matter of counting as well: 14 A&C, 9 (not 8!) stickpeople, 2 on the playing card and the anglelike creature: totalling 26

The one thing that may confuse you is that ring-people-roses would suggest a code of 8-26-1789, corresponding as well to the notation of the date in the US etc. However, if you play the game you'll see that the code to be entered is already given as '00-0-0000', so the leap to '26-8-1789' shouldn't be that hard to make.

By the way, people wondered about the storyline and the glasses+chips scenes. They may not make much sense if you just play this game, but knowing that this is the third of a series of 4, they are much easier understood, so go and play the others as well :)!

Cannot get door too basement to open. Hit all the switches only five beams light. Help Please.

FYI

inside bullet is pearl- flower and pearl both go to the girl

and for the purpose of the glasses

put the microchip in slot

and to get to basement

I'm stuck on the shield. Just can't seem to prise one off the wall in the red room.
If there is anybody out there...
plz help...

Never mind...
I managed to escape at last and I never did find out what was in the locked box in the statue next to the pink suited guy to whom you give the walking stick...

Where do I find the value to shut shut off the gas?

how do I get to the inventory?

Really, really, REALLY late to the party, hitting this game the second time around through the new "Vault" feature, and I really have to comment. First, I'm well aware of the rule that states, "If you argue on the internet, you are a loser." But sometimes you have to break the rules for the peace of your own soul. That said:

Is everyone seriously having that much trouble understanding what the 6 paintings in the red hall are depicting? Did nobody listen to anything while in school? Is the art style somehow abstract in some way that only I can see right through? The scenes, in clockwise from top left order, are:

  1. A general leading his troops. I'll admit this one is messed up, as the sword hints at being excalibur, but the troops are dressed as Grecian soldiers, possibly Spartans.

  2. An king being crowned by a priest. Come on, rich red robes, fancy purple vestments, big ol' stained glass in a fancy cathedral with hordes of priests or friars in the background paying homage, what did you think this was, WalMart?

  3. A French nobleman walking in the garden. Given the circumstances, probably Louis XIV.

  4. Napoleon (not "Napolien", gees) reviewing his troops.

  5. A viking in his longship. (A "hubcap", seriously? Have you never seen a picture of a longship before? They're shields, for cryin' out loud. The game even tells you this.)

  6. A Roman nobleman, probably Julius Caesar, in a time and place where highly placed people -- noblemen, rulers, victorious warriors and others -- wore the laurels, a circlet of bay leaves. Which is where our expression "to win the laurels", meaning "to be victorious", comes from. You'll note that prizes and medals in many sporting events often feature a laurel theme. This is where it started.

Now, I didn't study art, nor did I do that well in history classes. This is all basic information I picked up just going through school in the normal way. So why am I the only one who remembers any of this?
