The MuseumThis game just popped onto the Flash point-and-click adventure scene, and people are all over it. The Museum is a brand new adventure from French design team Anode & Cathode, and is one part mystery and one part figure out what the object of the game is.

To save you from the little frustration I experienced with the game, your task is to collect the objects you find while exploring the museum and, well, put them back where they belong. Some of the puzzles are logical, and others are a bit odd. In other words, rely on your common sense most of the time, and when that fails use your imagination.

All things considered, the game was fairly well designed, yet the execution of it suffers from inconsistencies and a lack of cohesion. For example, some items to collect in your inventory are to be placed, while others to be acted upon, and still others combined. While this may seem logical in an adventure game of this sort, the interface made it a little confusing to me. There is a story—though somewhat of an afterthought it seems—that is revealed at the end, and yet the game play could have existed in an entirely different game altogether. Much of the 'art' in the museum is nicely done and fits the mood and theme of the game well, and yet it is mixed with various out-of-character additions from the design team. While these deviances may inject some style and humor into the game, they also serve to disrupt any immersion the authors were attempting to create. These are somewhat minor issues, though, and if you enjoy point-and-click Flash adventures, then it is likely you will enjoy playing this one as well.

Back in main hall, go to door 3: Change 00-0-0000 into 26-8-1789. Enter.

How disapointing ! If you discover the basement, don't just click on one of the bomb in the room on the right ; if you do so, you'll die and have to restart the game from the very beginning :(((

Reply

Hmmm... that was pretty easy, expecially when compaired to games such as the Dark Room...
My cursor kept dissapearing which caused a bit of trouble when playing this game :/

Reply

I did also find the bomb in the basement and died, but the game said I deserved to continue and I didnt have to start from the beginning.

I guess its because the game liked me :)

Reply

i can't get the code for room three

Reply

Armand - Is there anything about the gallery that might translate into the three numbers you see as the pattern of the combination? --|--|----

Reply

I can't figure out the 3rd room either. From the format of the combination, it may be a date, but I can't figure it out

Reply

This particular puzzle is a bit obscure, especially if the player is not French. In the gallery you will find the combination you seek. There are three different numbers you need to locate. Try counting objects in the paintings. And remember, Europeans express dates differently than we do in the States.

Reply

I only found the year and then I googled about the year and checked what important things happened in France that year and tried the dates :)

Reply

any hints out there?

Reply

What do you want to know? How far did you get?

Reply

great game so far. i saw someone else's screenshot and i have everything except the pearl and orange microchip.
how do i get these???

plz help

Thanks

Reply

I finished the game, but I do not recall ever seeing an orange microchip. Have you found the bullet yet? If you have, then you have found the pearl.

Reply

eep... no? i guess i should modify my question to where is the bullet then?

hehe thx

Reply

ok found the orange microchip. i guess it isnt necessary to the completion of the game, but just for plot explanation like the other microchips.

HELP!!

Hellow.
Where can I put the flower that I got on the gallery?

Reply

I was pretty sure it would be August 26, 1789 (declaration of rights of man) but I've the code still doesn't work! Any hints?

Reply

Mmm - European dates contain months and days that are flipped from what we are used to seeing here in the US.

Reply

I hate to be so stupid, but I can't quite finish. I've got the red box from the bomb room, but can't figure out where it belongs. Also, is there any significance to the wall in the hedge by the statue of Cupid outside? How about the eyeglasses? Thanks for the hint....

Reply

The only close to impossible thing (if you're not French) is the password for door #3, because the French express their dates differently than we do. So if you were going to type in a date, such as today, for example, 3-22-2005, it would instead look like this: 22-3-2005.

Does that help?

Reply

where do i find the nuts?

Reply

you have to hit the tree to get the nuts. there are 26 people and 8 rings.

does anyone know where i have to put the flower....and i dont know what to put in the room with the guy in the purple and the box thing..i've opened it with the key and got the green piece..is that all i have to do??

where are you supposed to put in the password???

Victoria March 28, 2005 9:39 PM

i found everything, and I think I got out of the museum. But it let me out at the cupidon fountain, and there's an opening in the hedge, but I can't get through it. Is this the end of the game? Also, what is the purpose of the red box? I don't know what I'm supposed to do with it. Thanks!

Reply

managed to escape ok, but couldn't get into the first basement room. anyone care to help me out on that one?

Reply

you were right,password is 26-8-1789

Reply

f it sais game over, DO NOT close the window! click again and you might continue.

The only thing i'm still missing is the key to room #1

Reply

Opening at the hedge sais to be bricked closed, inside the red box is a bullet (click on the side of the box to open), and the password goes in door nr. 3, wich is in the basement. To get to the basement you will have to solve the 7 puzzles in the red hall

Reply

Oh, and why are so many people so obsessed with the french, that it's so hard if you don't speak french? If you knew french, you wouldn't complain, as it are just nonsense comments this 'spieler' apparently wrote, such as Veux tu jouer avec moi? Which simply means: do you want to play with me? Those things have absolutely nothing to do with solving the puzzle, as each comment you do need is in plain english.

Reply

I can't get the sword but i talked to the squirrel. And after that do i put the sword in the guy with the red cape and horse?

Reply

fiiiiiinished! thanx u guys

Reply

in the red box is a bullet, in the bullet is a pearl, which belongs to the girl's father.

Anyway I finished the game, but I didn't quite understand the ending, if anyone is willing to explain

Reply

i finished, but what were the chips for? and i think i was missing two things, for the whole bottom screen wasnt filled... hopefully it wasnt anything super exciting. And its got all that french stuff because: 1. the makers are french/english and 2. it helps with the code, showing what date is particular

Reply

xx - the chips are used with the glasses to view clues about the game.

Rikatee May 1, 2005 2:04 AM

To get the nuts for the squirrel simply click on the tree. when feeding the squirrel the nuts he will ask a question, the answer is paris. When you give the answer he will say "you are true of heart", when he dows this go to the sword in the stone and collect it and give the sword to the sceene with the man on a horse. When this is done exit the sceene room and click on each of the swithches in front of the doors and then click the button in the centre of the coridor and then go into the room where you take the picture of the paintings on the wall. when in the room click on the post in front of you and this will allow you to enter the basement where you can use the keys to enter the the rooms. inside room 2 you will see two boxes, DO NOT CLICK! instead open the top draw of the dresser and open the box. Then select the red box from your inventory and click on the larger sized image, this will give you a shot gun shell. do the same as before with the shell to get the pearl then head for door number three and use the following code: 26-8-1789. when inside this room you will meet your girlfriend. give her the flower and then the pearl. this action will make a hole in the wall where you escape the museum. you exit the basement in the maze next to the fountain. Once there click on the arrow at the bottom of your screen and then click on the area of the maze that is top lefty of the screen.

!!YOU HAVE ESCAPED THE MUSEUM!!!

Hey, I think I've found the key to room # 1! First you must have the Medallion(it is found in the maze like place, the labyrenth. Use your lamp/flashlight thingy and guide it to the back of the maze, you should see a small opening. Click on it. If done right you should see the medallion swinging from a blue tree branch, click on it to grab it. Now go back inside the gallery and click on the medallion, then click on it again(do this 2 or 3 times to be safe). By now it should be open revealing a key with the
#1 on it. This should be the key for room#1 in the basement. Piece of cake >.

I finished missing only the upper right item. This game reminds me of a very old computer game, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. It does not play like it, however I'm most convinced that the creators, at least one, must have played the game and purposely used some of its elements, such as the solid color background for items, the colored names for items, pearl in the necklace, and other things. I also highly recommend Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark to anyone who enjoyed the tenticales series. You might have a problem finding it though, if you are lucky it is abandonware and free for use.

IZZGOOD, about the toga guy:

there is a circle thing missing on his boat, so you need to find another one to put there.

If you still need help:

you can find one in the red room

And if you STILL need help...

there are four in the room, take the one on the top right, above the door.

That should do it!

where is the squirrel? I cant see the squirrel. I am clicking on the tree and there aren't any nuts. Where are they?

Reply

Yeah it took me a few moments to understand the logic of the code 26-8-1789
coincidentially, it is the date of french revolutin, but the tip for the password lies also on the photo of the paintings you take
I guess you all saw teh message rings=people=flowers
people its 08 on the children's draw
flowers are 1789 as shown on the flowers painting
the thing about the rings is the stupid untinkable... if you count all rings, you shall find 8 of them, then you go all happy and insert 8 or 08 and that doesn work
well, if you look again, the anode painting has 2 rings, more the hand with five and the roses with one...
2+6=8... 26, that's the trick...
silly huh?

Reply
Helanrenb August 3, 2007 3:10 AM

Pedro, things aren't always as silly or 'stupid untinkable' as they may seem to you:

- first, august 26 1789 isn't 'the' date of the French Revolution (if anything, that would be Bastille Day, july 14), but of one of the important events of it, the adaptation of 'La Déclaration des droits de l'Homme et du citoyen', The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen.
- as mentioned above, this date is found from the photographs that (after playing around with the contrast) mention "ring-people-roses"
- # roses is mentioned in name of photo, 1789
- # of rings can be counted (1 with the roses, 5 on the hand, 2 in the A&C set of photo's), total of 8
- # of people is simply a matter of counting as well: 14 A&C, 9 (not 8!) stickpeople, 2 on the playing card and the anglelike creature: totalling 26

The one thing that may confuse you is that ring-people-roses would suggest a code of 8-26-1789, corresponding as well to the notation of the date in the US etc. However, if you play the game you'll see that the code to be entered is already given as '00-0-0000', so the leap to '26-8-1789' shouldn't be that hard to make.

By the way, people wondered about the storyline and the glasses+chips scenes. They may not make much sense if you just play this game, but knowing that this is the third of a series of 4, they are much easier understood, so go and play the others as well :)!

Really, really, REALLY late to the party, hitting this game the second time around through the new "Vault" feature, and I really have to comment. First, I'm well aware of the rule that states, "If you argue on the internet, you are a loser." But sometimes you have to break the rules for the peace of your own soul. That said:

Is everyone seriously having that much trouble understanding what the 6 paintings in the red hall are depicting? Did nobody listen to anything while in school? Is the art style somehow abstract in some way that only I can see right through? The scenes, in clockwise from top left order, are:

  1. A general leading his troops. I'll admit this one is messed up, as the sword hints at being excalibur, but the troops are dressed as Grecian soldiers, possibly Spartans.

  2. An king being crowned by a priest. Come on, rich red robes, fancy purple vestments, big ol' stained glass in a fancy cathedral with hordes of priests or friars in the background paying homage, what did you think this was, WalMart?

  3. A French nobleman walking in the garden. Given the circumstances, probably Louis XIV.

  4. Napoleon (not "Napolien", gees) reviewing his troops.

  5. A viking in his longship. (A "hubcap", seriously? Have you never seen a picture of a longship before? They're shields, for cryin' out loud. The game even tells you this.)

  6. A Roman nobleman, probably Julius Caesar, in a time and place where highly placed people -- noblemen, rulers, victorious warriors and others -- wore the laurels, a circlet of bay leaves. Which is where our expression "to win the laurels", meaning "to be victorious", comes from. You'll note that prizes and medals in many sporting events often feature a laurel theme. This is where it started.

Now, I didn't study art, nor did I do that well in history classes. This is all basic information I picked up just going through school in the normal way. So why am I the only one who remembers any of this?
