Weekend Download

DoraIt's Saturday, and you know what that means!... well... unless you're one of those brave, beautiful souls who works on the weekend so the rest of us can have somewhere to go have fun at, in which case, I salute you, but for the rest of us, it's time to kick back and fire up some games! This week on the totally-not-conspicuously-absent Weekend Download, we have a speed dating sim with one very demanding pink pug, a plucky girl detective who knows how to wield a set of lockpicks, and a dark inn in the dead of night where letting your light go out would be a very bad idea.

The Empty InnThe Empty Inn (Windows, PWYW, including free)- In this spooooooky action adventure from Candlelight Studios, you arrive in the dead of night to a darkened inn. There's nobody around, many doors are locked, and you have the feeling that letting your lamp go out would be... unfortunate. Hunt for keys to open doors and supplies to keep your light going while you learn the weird truth... but you're not alone!

Hot dateHot Date (Mac, Windows, Linux, PWYW including free)- If you've ever dreamed of speed dating with a pink pug who is very hard to please, then this silly, romantic sim from George Batchelor, featuring the musical stylings of Levi Pack, is most definitely for you. Use the [arrow] keys to select and create questions that, hopefully, ignite a spark between you and your would-be "bae"... though that's easier said than done considering the disdain they seem to have for most queries!

Jenny LeClue - Playable TeaserJenny LeClue - Playable Teaser (Mac, Windows, Linux, PWYW including free)- MOGRAFI's gorgeous upcoming adventure about an intrepid girl detective isn't ready yet, but that doesn't mean you can't get a little taste by checking out this demo, which features a little B-and-E, and a whole lot of gorgeous lighting as Jenny explores a darkened home. Though short, it's definitely stunning, and well worth a play if you're wanting a creepy-cute adventure!

Hot Date was cute, but pretty basic. I picked it up almost exclusively because the adorable pug animations caught my eye.

I was disappointed that the early questions don't seem to influence the way the rest of the date goes. It seems like you just pick questions and get the associated responses.

Some of the questions are funny, and there's a pretty wide variety of them to ask. Others give pretty dull responses, like the pug's generic denouncement of my joke. It would have been nice to get a response that at least played off my specific choice of joke. Other questions, though, result in humorous exchanges.

A larger variety of animations for the pug would be nice. When she started laughing uncontrollably a laughing animation would have gone a long way.

This is cute and the idea has a lot of potential, but this one fell a bit flat for me. Maybe there's more depth here and I've just missed it.
