There are various kinds of games available out there. If you're a gaming enthusiast, you must have heard them all, but what about retro games? Have you ever heard of retro games? Do you know if they still exist or are still played?

Well, the word 'retro' means 'previous times,' and the term, retro games, is mainly used for games made in the 1990s and the years before. They do exist and they're still loved by gaming enthusiasts even today. In fact, those who know games inside and out know how amazing retro games are. In this article today, we're going to list down the best retro games of all time. If you haven't tried them before, you must do it right away for they're amazing.

The only issue here is that not all retro games are going to work on your smartphone. They're old and some of them are strictly location-based; however, it isn't anything to worry about. Using a VPN for online gaming, you can access all kinds of retro games, even if they're geo-blocked or have limited access in general.

Goldeneye 007 (1997)
Goldeneye 007, launched in 1997, is certainly one of the best retro games. If you're working on a round-up of the best retro games, please know that it wouldn't be complete without Goldeneye 007. From fighting with an RCP90 to lasers on the facility level and deathmatches with the golden gun, it offered everything in a new and unique way.
It had two play modes, one where you played all by yourself and the other when you played with multiple players while competing against each other. It revolves around the famous character, James Bond, and watching him shooting and running in this game is so satisfying.

Tetris (1984)
The NES version of Tetris never gets old. If you've been gaming for a few years now, I'm sure you'll remember the hype that followed Tetris and I must say that it deserved every bit of the appreciation it got.
Its purple screen used to keep millions of people hooked to their mobile screens for hours. In other words, it was the 'Candy Crush Saga' of the 1980s. From the background to the screen and other objects involved in this game, everything is made using Tetris blocks. With this game, you can create your own purple shapes and bring your purple ideas to life.

Pac-Man (1982)
Pac-Man stands tall in the list of the best retro games. It was loved by millions of people then and is still admired by many even today. It's all about a dot-gobbling man and his ghost friends. Whether you play him in the arcades back or watch him in the pixel movie, you're sure to notice him.

The game brings along amazing retro mazes and allows you to move a little wheel around them. The more you safely move, the higher your score. All you need to do is avoid bumping into the colored blobs with eyes, and you'll be good to go. Not to mention, Pac-Man is a legend and would stay around for years to come.

Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988)
Mario and its parent company, Nintendo, require no introduction as everyone knows them well due to their contributions to the world of video games. Mario has introduced various games and catered to various genres. The Super Mario Bros, released in 1990, is one of the best in its series.
It was highly anticipated at its time and due to that, many other video games flopped. Even today, people remember Super Mario Bros. 3 as a classic and many still play it when they crave retro games for a change.

Donkey Kong Country (1994)
Donkey Kong Country, although from the early 1990s, is another popular retro game. It was initially known as a graphical marvel due to its finely detailed backgrounds and multiple 3D models, which was a one-of-a-kind thing of its time.
The graphic game has improved a lot over time. As of now, the graphics are way too impressive and charming but even then, Donkey Kong Country is still admired by many gaming enthusiasts. In fact, fans of Nintendo fondly remember the game as well as Rare, its director. It has two sequels and both have been amazing throughout the years.

Final Fantasy VI (1994)
The Final Fantasy series has been loved by numerous people all these years. From its first part to its seventh, all have been quite popular and still are in the world of retro games. Out of all, Final Fantasy VI has been loved the most and many would argue even today that it's the best part of the Final Fantasy series.

Initially released in only North America, Final Fantasy VI is remembered for its incredible characters and storyline. Its characters are said to be extremely robust for a video game. Though many people think of this retro game as old due to its graphics, it's a must-try if you're a gaming enthusiast and enjoy stories.

The Takeaway
Apart from that, there are various other retro games that you'll like if you like the respective niche, including Monkey Go Happy Roundup 58, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Earthworm Jim, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Space Invaders, and the Secret of Monkey Land. For now, I suggest you try the games mentioned above and I'm sure you'll like the experience. They're vintage and sure to bring lots of memories back.
