Slush Tile Rush

SatoriJust what is it about matching tiles that inspires game designers to develop combat games? Whether it's anything from the hugely successful Puzzle Quest series to unique (and must-play!) innovators like Overhaul to anything in between, people just can't stop looking at identical tiles without deciding that something needs to go. As you might imagine for a genre with so many games, only the unique and the innovators need apply. Frantic tile-matching and combat collide for the ultimate elimination tournament in Gildedguy's Slush Tile Rush! Our heroes have saved the world, but now? They just want to get home. Too bad standing in their way is a long line of bruising baddies and even meaner bosses, who apparently aren't that intimidated by your heroic deeds. Tiles for your party members appear to the left and right of your opponent, and it's up to you to click on a matched pair from each side to take out the tiles — and your opponents! They'll be filling the boards up with attacks of their own and if the boards fill completely, you've just lost the match!

Slush Tile RushSlush Tile Rush is here — and free! — for both Android 2.2+ and browsers. We did note that while the game will recognize three- and four-tile swipe maneuvers it described, three-tile swipes will only register horizontally. Just keep in mind that to swipe a row or column of matching tiles it must extend completely across whichever board it's on, since the board layouts are 3x4, and you should be fine. Tournaments are replayable upon a loss with no penalty, though losing a boss fight will take you back to the beginning of the stage. This one also features a diverse array of characters to add to your team, and opponent types to encounter, each with their own unique ability. After each set of battles you'll have the chance to remove one of your team members and add another, keeping the gameplay fresh and interesting. This one is light on plot and emphasizes quick reflexive clicking over heavy strategy, but those in the mood for unique gameplay and an exciting nonstop frenetic clickfest need look no further!

This game is pretty fun, but the way it forces you to add and drop characters can be crippling. If you get a bad combo of characters (the engineer and the guy who spawns copies of himself can really kludge things up), you can get stuck, with no option to switch them out. Infinite continues doesn't help if you have a team full of tiles that are actually destructive to use.

I couldn't get swipes to work with a mouse. Fortunately, my laptop has a touchscreen. Still, this seems like it would pose a problem for many people playing in a browser.

That's exactly when and how I've been trying to swipe. I still haven't gotten it to work even once with the mouse.

I tried many, many times when the tutorial for that came up. I was only able to proceed by using the touchscreen.

Since then, I've repeatedly experimented. I try and try again with the mouse with no success. Then I perform the same action on the same tiles with the touchscreen, and it works on the first try. This is how it goes every time.

Hey Bill and Satori,

Michael, the developer here. Sorry about the fickle swiping!

-Swiping only works on full rows of 3, OR full columns of 4.
-To swipe, you hold down left click on any of the tiles in the row/column, and move the mouse horizontally/vertically.
-You don't have to quickly release the left mouse button, it can be held down.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for reviewing the game!

Being featured on this site has been a gamedev bucket list item for me.

Is there a different cut screen for every team combo?
