Taking a short break from playing games until I get through my sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It shouldn't take long, but in case anyone was looking for an update, you'll know where to find me.
And if you're anything like me, while reading the latest Potter publication you may find this useful: a site that contains summaries from each of the chapters of the previous books in the series, to refresh your memory. Click.
Lastly, an author interview by a young fan that is worth the read. Click.
More games soon. =)
In the meantime, please contribute to the discussion on multiplayer games, and help spread the word on the MTV opportunities!
I just want to say that I am also in the midst of my sixth year at Hogwarts and I am very into it myself. I've had my mouth open, in shock, for almost an entire day so far.
Myself, my sister and my father are all reading one copy of Harry Potter at the same time. We bought it from a *shock* independent bookseller! And it cost 41 dollars Canadian, and there's no way we're going to spend 123 dollars on three Harry Potters. It did come with a free unedited proofing copy of a murder mystery. It has "NOT FOR SALE NOT FOR SALE NOT FOR SALE" stamped all over it. Anyway, my sister has it from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, I have it from 3:00 to 9:00 and my dad has it 9:00 to 9:00 seeing as he payed for it. Fair? I think not. I'm only up to chapter 5! He he, but the midnight party waaaas fun. Another rambling comment brought to you courtesy of grant0.
lol grant0 =)
Got my copy from Amazon for about $18 +shipping.
My dad bought 4 copies...
I hope you enjoy it Jay!
I finished it on Saturday, at around 6:30PM and have been dying to discuss it with my friends...
Only one book left!! *tear*
I just finished the 6th one yesterday afternoon, reading it non-stop. I can't wait until everyone finishes reading it too. And I am really so excited for the seventh one. But it'll probably take a long time. sigh.
jay - Yeah, I knew Amazon had it cheaper but here in frigid, primitive, miserable Canada our postal service is still figuring out how to light fires by banging rocks together and then burning our mail so it takes days. Apparently if I'd ordered online, I *should* have maybe received it by late today. If I paid for express, that is. Otherwise it'd take weeks. Also, the American Booksellers' Association (why doesn't Canada get one? CBA would be cool. . .ABC backwards. Uh. Or not. We probably do but nobody cares.) is in an upset because nobody's buying their books, which are more expensive than online. Of course, the Canadian one is probably even worse because us silly Canadians aren't capable of enjoying high-class literary fiction and so nobody cares about HP. I think Amazon's reasoning is that they've sold 800 million, and so can afford to make 50 cents off each one. Anyway, I support independent booksellers! Yeaaaaah! Woo hoo! Yay! Yeah. Woooo. Does anyone care?
wow. everyone is so hyped up about this.
personally, i've never read any of her books.
i'm not much of a reader anyway, but i hope you get joy out of it. my friend said the beginning was political.
...i'll wait till the movie comes out. = )
I just started the book, I personally tend to daze off whilst reading J.K's books and make weird little daydreams about them... only in modern day (a little off topic I know:P)
Anyhow, you have fun reading that book... because I know I'm going to struggle through the thing, gah! Nows those times where you wish you could have it read to you as a bedtime story! (I know I do). I must go tackle reading the massive book that is!
Sincerely,
Allie
i got it right at midnight, and was part of all the hype. personally, i only paid like 23$can for it because i pre ordered it and got a whopping 40% off. I finished it yesterday, and i know i'm going to go crazy trying to figure out everything until the next book comes out :'(
I was lucky and rented the book from my local library. Am also listening to it on tape (which I also rented) when I drive to and from work. Am trying to savour it because we won't be reading the seventh and last year at Hogwarts (too sad) for quite a while.
Love your site, Jay. Thank you!
I loved the book I finished it yestarday evening. I was very suprised at a few things. She is a great story teller and I hope that we all don't haave to wait two years for the next and possibly final installment!!
I got my book on the first day and it was insane (not to diss ANYONE here at all but) the lines were gigantic and some people were dressed up as the characters. I mean... if I ever wrote a book and people dressed up as the characters I'd be so shocked I'd probably just curl up in a corner and start to go crazy(er).
I wish I were J.K... Can you imagine what kind of income she makes per year selling her novels? It's a crazy thought.
Sincerely,
Allie
Allie - erm. I, uh, was one of those crazy blokes who dressed up, actually. Anyway, JKR is now the richest woman in England, if not Europe.
As for people who can't handle reading big books - oh, come on. How old are you folks? My 8-year-old sister is reading it. I've read bigger books. Take, for example, "Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell." An excellent book, which I'd highly reccomend if you like HP or not. It's 782 pages of tiny text with loads of footnotes, and it took me a week, but it's nevertheless an excellent book! Go get it!
I bought HP6 on Saturday, at about 5 pm.
I finished it before midnight.
And my jaw STILL hasn't recovered from the constant jawdropping. It was stunningly good, full of twists and surprises, much more mature writing. Just as the fifth was better than its predecessors for being deeper and darker, so is the sixth, only twice as much.
And I hate JK, because now she's going to make me wait another two years before I can read the next!
Jarod
For all who can't remember, when this series was originally announced it was said to be a 9 book series, but that has all been shuffled under for some mysterious reason. Maybe for the shock and joy of the 8th and 9th book? We'll have to wait and see if this happens or not.
