Lori.hWelcome to Metro City, where streets are busy with gangs, vigilantes, cleaning droids, police drones and one very busy hitman who is just itching to get out of the city. With everyone having twitchy trigger fingers and cops shooting first then asking questions, you can't blame the assassin-for-hire for wanting to get in and out as fast as they can. Flatearthgames' Metrocide is a high difficulty, bird's-eye view, stealth game where you take on jobs, find the mark, and put them out of their misery without getting spotted by drones and humans. A normal civilian will rat on you to the cops and that's all, but other civilians think they are some sort of hero and start shooting at you to paint the streets with your blood. They have good aim too, because one shot and you're dead. Being a roguelike game, death results in a new, penniless you. It's a rough life, but every hitman has got to work to get food on the table or in this case, papers to travel to get far, far away from such a mess.

metrocideEach job you can take on gives you money according to the difficulty, and every hit is a bit different than the others. Some marks have guns on them, some are paranoid and will run or fire if they think something is up. Some will drop packages, or you may have to dispose of the body in nearby rivers or handy manholes, but at the end of the day each job is you finding just the right place to shoot and not be seen. The city doesn't have many hiding spots, not with all the cameras around, so you'll have to take the opportunity when you have one. Remember your gun takes a bit to warm up, and can be noisier than you'd like. If you're willing to part with some cash, there are lovely little machines that will give you better weapons and even items like a lure to help you out. Most of these items you have to unlock by completing so may kills, though there is really nothing that tells you how to unlock them, so just jump right in and fire away. But don't get too good at your job, or you may just get a hit put out on you.

The controls for Metrocide can take a bit to get used to. Your mouse turns your little trenchcoated character and the good old [WASD] keys moves your character forward or sideways depending on where you are looking. The top down view of the game makes it a very different experience than most assassin style games. The world you are in is so gritty and cyberpunkish you can't help but get into the mood of things. No matter how many times you die you just want to go back and try again, and with three different cities to travel through the challenges stay fresh. As of this writing there were some glitches popping up, but the developers are still there, making adjustments and making this game worth every penny. So turn up your collar, button up that trench coat, and place on your wide brim hat. You're way less suspicious that way, trust me.
