When encountering a game that appears to borrow from another's premise, it never hurts to give it the benefit of the doubt. Sure, Goime 500, a puzzle platformer by Cary Huang, might look a heck of a lot like Achievement Unlocked. And, with its 500 achievements to earn for every tiny little action, it plays a lot like it too. But, ah, here's the thing: in this game you play not as a little blue elephant, but as a little yellow smiley face. And that has made all the difference. All snarkiness aside though, this is a fun little game. Comparisons are, of course, inevitable, but Goime 500 has a nice webtoy feel to its unstructured gameplay. Its whimsical sense of humor allows Goime 500 to make up in enjoyment what it lacks in premise-innovation. There's just so much to explore and interact with. And, at the very least, it bests its predecessor by having the comprehensive hint system in-game. On the whole, Goime 500 might not have the newest material ("Boy, some games sure have a lot of achievements!"), but it at least it gives it a solid delivery.
It's a little finicky. The ball slides around a lot when you land, so I have to jump up to the small platforms at least 3 times to avoid sliding off. If I didn't slide everywhere, this would be a great game. 3 mushrooms.
Actually, I've been waiting for more Achievement Unlocked...jealously so since This Is The Only Level 2 has come out reminding me of my favorite pachyderm-based gameplay.
So...Hurrah for Goime 500! Thanks Kricky.
Got everything else, but I can't figure out 'Guy's interested in your club'. Been talking to him forever.
David: That was one of the last ones I got, too.
Ask for advice.
I think I just invented an achievement: Die while saving the game. :-P
(That said, how how HOW do I access the turquoise and yellow portals???)
Ugh, the controls are so sloppy. Yikes.
Ha, I figured it out. Love that POP.
Right. What I can NOT figure out is
how to get on the topic of singing with Pink.
@ray9na
You have to buy singing lessons in the store for 1 coin before you can talk to Pink about singing.
What I can't figure out is
how to get into the top-right area, just above the screen with the jail. I'm convinced that's where the mysterious "invisible region" is.
@Rygar
That is correct. Go down the left side to just above the store. See the turquoise portal? Do a ghostly jump.
@Rygar:
you can fall off the grey 3floor area or "ghost" through the lower grey wall so you can reach the blue portal
I'm missing the "Blue Star Conquerer" achievement. What do I have to do?
This game was almost good. It would benefit greatly from tighter controls. That little ball is just flying all over the place.
@Rygar
Correction: by the arcade.
@wintermädchen
Just be on top of that blue plus above the place where you type numbers.
how do you get
"fell off the roof"
?
Never mind.
Power of posting.
This one question,
Um, how exactly do you reach the jail?
And also
how is the purple portal reached, as you can't
ghost from invisible area and the race course
@bobin hood
Try breaking the law. if you can't reach the area, you need to ghost while jumping through the thin tan walls right of the color pools. Just double tap the G button as you jump
slow double digit time? Fan boost? everything else is done. any suggestions?
I just finished, one question though, what's the purpose of the rainbow bridge with a count down when you press the ?? switch near the fan? Red herring?
Is my game bugged? I got everything except for the 99.8% achievement and the Colorful test taker achievement. Which says to get 267 achievements.
need help with "fall off roof"
I tried
falling off obsevatory roof, both direction and jumping off - but no achievement
@cams
The hints are lying to you. To get colourful test taker,
It's as it sounds. Take the test as a colour other than yellow
@read
that's because the observatory isn't the right roof to fall from. Go to the 3-story-tall building, up past the shower and slime shower, and fall off of THAT roof.
I like this one. Played about 30 minutes yesterday, saved my progress, and was going back today to finish up. The 'Continue' option is not clickable. I can only start a new game. I don't like it *that* much.
[To "Continue" a game, you must first "Save" your game by landing on the red Save button near your home. It worked for me. Make sure you have given Flash ample room to save game data when playing here at JIG, otherwise Flash will be unable to save your game state. -Jay]
how do i get ghost writer? which is the typing region?
Overall i liked the game. It did have a different feel than achievement unlocked based on the type of tasks given.
In achievement unlocked there was no one to talk to.
I recommend this game.
Done! Thanks for the tips on getting to the areas in the upper right.
@meeee:
The blue region is the typing region.
All I'm missing is the "Press BANDS", "Sub-Six Time", "Press XANDZ", and "Press CANDY". But I can't for the life of me figure them out. :/
I would've continued playing this game if it wasn't for the not so great controls :(
I detest playing Avoider. I always move too far when releasing a button and hit the other one. I can't get to twenty for the life of me.
How do I reach the rainbow in time to achieve "walking on the rainbow"?
Dear Jayisgames - I must admit, I think your reviews are sometimes too flattering and not critical enough! You have some great games on here but without critical reviews, it's hard to give those games justice.
The beauty of the concept of a game with 'achievements' as the main goal is the simplicity of it. The original was a single room, with very creative achievements, so that by 85% it becomes very difficult yet very rewarding to find them.
This game completely lacks that value as it spans a huge area, and you are simply getting achievements for exploring new areas in the same way... it isn't challenging or creative.
Good delivery maybe, but it doesn't add anything to the experience but rather takes away.
Please Jay, don't be scared to be more critical in your reviews!! It means you save the really good reviews to the games that really deserve it.
[We're not afraid to be critical in our reviews. The fact is, if we find too many things to be critical about a game in a review, then we just don't review that one at all. We have always focused here at JIG on gameplay that we find compelling, rewarding and fun. And our reviews reflect that. If a game doesn't deserve our praise and promotion, then we won't waste your time featuring it. -Jay]
I agree with whoever said the controls were really sloppy. I persevered through making the finicky landings in the observatory, even though it was really frustrating. But then I realized once I had about 85% of the achievements that I could never win avoider or pong because of the bad controls, and so I just gave up (*coughs* possibly ragequit *cough*) This would have been a three or four mushroom game for me, but the controls ruined it. 1 mushroom.
Jay: Had same problem as Shadowmax. Continue not available and I had "unlimited" set as the storage amount and I do not have cookies disabled. Is there anything else that could cause this problem?

Sorry Jay. NVM. I figured it out. I didn't use the "Exit" button, I just closed the window (since that works with our elephant friend). Oh, well... OCD compels me to try again ;)
--Cyn
how do i move exactly?
I can't figure out how to get the "I fell off the roof" one. That's the only one I can't get aside from the one for getting them all. Would love a spoiler for that one if anyone knows.
this is the worst game ever for controls..I'm trying to love it but impossible to control the ball. It's not possible to even finish the game the way it is...but I'm trying!
I have no idea how to get to stripeland, I'm guessing through the yellow portal, but I'm guessing to get there you need the platform. Only problem is I only have one coin left on the map (the stripeland one). So am I doomed to incompleteness?
What I can't figure out is how to turn pink. I've tried the obvious option of using red paint then white paint (and white then red) but all that does is change colors between red and white.
So I figured out how to turn pink.
It's not really pink. The three paints look like Magenta, Yellow, and Cyan, which can be combined into other colors. In fact, the Pink necessary for the Pink Zone is simply the Magenta paint.
I still haven't found how to get in the jail.
Wow, I suggested this game and it was actually reviewed!
@Trainy: No. You don't need the buyable platform to get anywhere. Try doing some fancy ghosting to get to the cyan portal.
@Jaxebadt: Try breaking the law. If you've actually seen the jail you should know what I'm talking about.
It's not that the controls are all that finicky, the entire game is moving to the right. Even if you stay in place and don't move, you will eventually be as far left of the place that you started as possible.
Hello :-) nice game.
But I can't figure out
"Sub-Six Time","Five Laps" and "Triathlon"?
Sarah
They are all in the grey area (just below the jail) with the lap timer.
