Final Fantasy for Nintendo

Gamesindustry.biz is reporting that Square Enix producer, Takashi Tokita, has announced a brand new Final Fantasy game to be released for the GameBoy Advance. In addition, GBA conversions of Final Fantasy I & II are also scheduled for Nintendo's handheld, and possibly Final Fantasy III if reception of the first two are favorable.

There are also rumors circulating the net about a new Square Enix Gamecube title to be announced at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in May.

Final Fantasy is a crack addiction for me, but that's besides the point - FF3 better make it over here, or else. :-)

Out of curiousity, how long have you been following Square Soft's/Square Enix's activities? Were you around when Anthologies was released in Japan and die-hard fans in the US were clamoring for an over-seas release?

I've been following video games for quite some time, though not as long as the Final Fantasy series has been around. I do remember reading about the buzz over their choice not to release some of their games stateside. And since their games haven't been available on Nintendo's consoles for quite some time, and after playing Final Fantasy VII and giving it away before it was finished due to it being too long, my interest in Final Fantasy has waned. However, I am excited at the prospect of a new Final Fantasy game being developed exclusively for Nintendo's console, whether for the GBA or for Gamecube, as I was at first for Crystal Chronicles before learning the single player campaign lacked substance. Hopefully we'll have a world class Final Fantasy installment on Nintendo's platform again before long.
